Pinch runner Fisher, Bregman at bat.  This looks familiar...

Yep.  Fisher should’ve been running for Gattis once he got on.

Small errors amplified in the post season.

Game is far from over.  The lineup just needs to grind out quality at bats from here on out.  Shouldn’t have expected anything less than a game like this when you are trying to win the first World Series in franchise history.

Jansen for two innings.

That's interesting for a couple of reasons. First, they've tried that twice already, and it hasn't worked well. And even if it works this time, that leaves them in a bind tomorrow.

Pederson stops between 3B and home plate to do a little dance in front of the dugout.  What a fuckstick.

Worst possible outcome here is for them to score enough runs that they don't have to use Jansen at all.

The entire bullpen is a gas can right now.  We all get taking Verlander out, but I would’ve strongly considered sacrificing his at bat in the 7th to keep him in.  The bullpen is that bad at the moment.

No way.  That would have been just plain insane.

Yeah, might not have scored any runs at all.

I understand the reasoning behind the decision, and it's definitely the conventional way to go. But making that decision means you're going to try to get three innings out of the bullpen, which definitely means you're going to have to score a bunch of runs to have a chance.

Relying on a bullpen with an era of nearly 8 this postseason to keep the score 2-1 is what’s insane.
You could’ve had Verlander sacrifice Reddick to second.  If the Astros had anyone reliable in the pen right now, the thought wouldn’t have even crossed my mind, but the fact is they don’t.

T8, 1 - 3,

Culberson in for Utley
Kenley Jansen pitches to
Correa
strike on the bottom of the zone,  high fly ball to Pederson in left.  1 out.

You're not.  You behind at this point with only a handful of outs.  You have to score at least 2 more runs.  You can't give up one of the few outs you have.  It was a no brainer, and complaining about it now is easy.

So for tomorrow we've got  a fully-rested McCullers, a semi-rested Peacock, a marginal Keuchel, maybe McHugh. Any other arms that aren't terrifying?

B8, 1 - 3, 0 outs, man on 1st

Taylor,
ball down, foul, ball just missed low, grounded to third, Bregman picks it and throws it up the line a little bit, yuli tags him on the hand.   1 out.   Culberson to 2nd.

Until the Astros can push one more fucking run across the plate pulling Verlander is simply a non issue. Plus, there's another potential game tomorrow. Fuck it.

The Liriano trade has paid off. Having speed off the bench won a game and Liriano just got a huge out.

I read an article yesterday about big bets being put on the Astros for game 6 -- by LA ticket brokers hedging because they were afraid their game 7 ticket inventory was going to go to $0.

Bellinger is positively Biggio-esque when it comes to the slider, except he can't lay off one that dips towards him either.

I reckon we'll see what happens, but I'll be on a flight to Manchester, so . . . maybe I can listen on my phone or some such. Gotta hope that we've seen enough of their bullpen to get to them and chip away and as crazy as this series has been . . . they may have an advantage, but they seem unduly cocky about it (from Buck's reporting) and crazy could be good for us. Let's get those bats swinging!

I'm not sure that's the issue.

Verlander showed up tonight.  Can't count on a shutout.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

Well, enjoy game 7 folks, I'm heading up the bush and will be behind the moon for most of the day, hope to pick up a score somehow.   A win would be nice.

Not getting any runs out of second and third with no outs in the top of the fifth did them in.  Hinch has to think about sitting Reddick tomorrow night, though I don’t understand why Josh hasn’t yet corrected his flaw by watching video.  He’s not keeping his head in and staying on the ball right now.

Verlander is the only Astro that showed up to win today.

Springer was 2x3 with a walk and scored/drove in the team's only run.

3 pitches standout:

Strike 1 to Josh on the 3-0 count.  Hill made a good lurch,  carefully placed. If Josh walks there . . .

"Strike 1" to Gattis on the 2-0 count.  I watched that pitch knew it was a ball and looked down at my phone, heard my 75 year old mom say "well maybe it caught the corner".  I said no, it was outside and stayed outside,  that's why they . . .WTH?!  Terrible terrible terrible call.  The argument that they get 90% balls/ strikes right falls to pieces when you put those missed calls in context.  Yes it's up to Gattis to battle back from that,  but he stood in and took ball 3 and we should have seen how things unfolded from there.

The last one was the Verlander slider that got dumped into right field for the lowest exit velocity double you'll  see.  Credit the hitter.  And credit Verlander for getting thru that with only 2 runs allowed.   He is gutsy,  gutsy,  gutsy and all kinds of good.

Ultimately we didn't cash in on opportunities.   Like HH kept saying,  keep hitting it hard.

Seems like you are scoring.

It was a bad luck game. Reddick’s strikeout curve might have been ball four, but he did not dare take it. Marwin’s liner was an RBI hit, but Utley was standing on top of second. The Utley HBP was a killer.

The Utley HBP.

Yep. 0-29, and a DP keeps Verlander in control.
