A couple of observations from section 116:

Severino was positively unhittable the first few innings. Our hitters had no chance. Around the 5th he either lost confidence in his FB or decided to change strategy, but he threw more breaking pitches and lost some command. Altuve got a big hit, but McCann’s AB was huge.

Velander is incredible. He threw a slider to Sanchez on 3-0 and got the checked swing grounder from a guy with a green light sitting dead red. The Hicks AB in the 7th was worth the price of admission. The slider on 3-2 after several fouls on his FB was gutsy and perfectly placed. I remember when most of the board was against trading for him. I hope we reward his decision with a Game 7 win.

Springer!

The extra runs in the 8th were great, but the return of vaunting was better.

Great GZ guys and gals! Colt .45 should be banned permanently.

The Yankees are going to have to find a new position for Sanchez. If the Yankees lose today, he is shaping up to be the goat of the series. His swing on the 3-0 count was brutal. Did Girardi green light him? That was a huge moment in the game.

Coach, I believe I told you we shouldn’t expect Verlander to be Randy Johnson.

Turned out I was right. He’s much better than Johnson.

Verlander is already the most consequential in-season acquisition in Houston sports history, and the degree to which I love him will probably lead to a serious talk between me and Correa.

The Rockets getting Drexler in 95, Astros getting Johnson in 98, and Beltran in 2004 come to mind as making the list.

The Rockets simply don't win title #2 without Clyde.
The playoffs on 98 never happened - they never happened. Weighing Beltran's importance to that 04 club, well he was simply spectacular.  For 2 weeks he was the best player in either league, and not by a little.

Hard to put Verlander,  Clyde, and CB in a rank order.  Not hard to say that Verlander is a hall of fame player at the peak of his craft and its been freaking awesome to watch.

I'm sure he had a green light, but he got badly fooled. It was a tremendous pitch in a tremendously crucial situation. That pitch and the 3-2 to Hicks were the two biggest pitches of the season so far.
