Goons on Fox claiming this should be a Yankee win because they're the team that doesn't have any distractions...like needing to play well.

Hard to argue with that logic.

Goons on the PBP and Color:

This game is all about Luis Severino and what a magical season he's had.

What distractions were they talking about?

The fact that they want to play well.  Apparently this stage appears too big for Verlander and the Astros and they might not be able to deal with it.  Essentially this is a MUST win for the Astros, so the Yankees can play free and lose, as they're right where they want to be.

At least we won't have to waste any time flipping back and forth between this game and the UT-OU game.
I remember all the good times me 'n Miller enjoyed
Up and down the M1 in some luminous yo-yo toy
But the future has to change - and to change I've got to destroy
Oh look out Lennon here I come - land ahoy-hoy-hoy

I don’t know if I hate A-Rod more as a player or analyst.  His overly-whitened teeth are distracting to say the least.

What a tremendous at bat...probably the key to the game, and apparently that at bat ruined Verlander.

I love how his at-bat meant that all Yankees were going to have long battles all afternoon.  5 pitches later, inning over.

He’s a fly-ball pitcher in a bandbox.  Dead man walking.  I don’t know why I’m even watching...or why they’re even bothering to play.

 Well that was disappointing.

That ball would have had to been hit significantly harder to be called a dribbler.

On that popup, the ball was in Bregman's glove, and Correa knocked it out.

It's the assumption that the SS is playing deeper in the hole field, so 3B has the easier route.

Exactly.  Obviously the third baseman can't get to everything, but he has priority on what he reasonably can.

With that last replay - how in the hell did the ump call him safe in the first place?  He was right on top of it.

Two words...Fuckin New York Yankees.

How many times do you see it - guy makes a great play and comes up third in the bottom of the inning.

 roughly 33.3% of the time

There was so much that had to go right to make that play.  It's no wonder they sent Gardner.

True, and the Astros executed but didn't do so flawlessly. Reddick's throw caused Correa's momentum to drift towards the first base side, which pulled his throw a couple feet off the bag. I'm not bagging on the  Astros' play, just saying that Gardner would have been toast if the relay went off without a hitch. The 3B coach should have held him at 2nd

I know this was a big thing in 2005, too, but I will never understand closing the roof during good weather (I don't know what the weather is in Houston today).

Think hell with humidity.  Fall arrives Monday though, so I hear.

I thought the quick throw by Reddick was key, if he took the time to make a perfect throw they probably wouldn't have got it to third in time.

The reason to leave the roof closed is because it enhances the Astros homefield advantage, AND its the way 99% of their home games are played after June. It would therefore be a disadvantage to force them to play important post-season games with the roof open.  And only a dickless  mouth breathing asshole would force them to do so.
Sincerely,

Castro: foul pop Yuli can't catch up to, then reaches to foul a slider off,  lays off a slider low/away,  fails to do so in the next one.

10 Ks for JV.

Eckstein-Gardner: falls behind 1-2, then lays off a pitch in the dirt,  then whiffs on HIGH FUCKING CHEESE for strike 3.

To the bottom of the 8th, still 1-1.

Gardner whiffs on a foul tip and then looks to the HPU for a call.  They really are an odious bunch.

Have you checked the symbols box (alt+i+s)? I'm genuinely curious.

No, but I don't think there's a symbol box on Macs.  It would be useful.

Verlander remains set to deal

Judge: Takes 96 fb for strike 1, pulls an 87 mph slider foul for strike 2, watches ball 1 bounce in the opposite box,  lays off a tough slider away for ball 2, and again to work the count full,  gets jammed,  flies out to 8.

I think “lines” makes it sound more authoritative than it was.  A good piece of hitting, but he basically paddled it past the infield.

T9:
Verlander still in
Judge – strike 96 mph FB, foul, ball, ball, ball, F8
Gregorius – single to left
Sanchez – strike, pop up shallow center/right – Reddick catches
Bird – foul back, ball, strike swinging, foul, ball, 4-3
1-1

Bird: fouls one back,  then takes a slider down,  whiffsmisses 97 mph inside heater,  fouls back a high heater,  lays off another high one just out of the zone,  then hits a SLOW roller ingrown the shift that Correa fields and gets him 6-3.

Bottom 9.
Tie ballgame.

Check your undies after the game, folks. They're likely to be soiled.

Correa: takes 99 high/ away,  the 100 for ball 2, takes a slider for strike 1, ball 3 is a curve outside,  fouls a heater to bring the count full,  then hits one to the gap in right,  Altuve scores easily from 1st on a routine play that will work every time.

Astros win 2-1, lead
ACLS 2-0.

Correa was on the bag, so no interference, but I think that's what Girardi was arguing.

B9:
Chapman in
Reddick – ball inside, strike swinging, bunts – pop foul, swinging strike on slider low and away
Altuve – single to center
Correa – (throws to first), ball outside, (throws to first), ball outside, strike, ball, foul, (throws to first), lines to gap between center and right – throw to Gregorius at second as Correa slides into second, Altuve keeps running, throw beats him to the plate but Sanchez drops it and Altuve touches the plate!

What a performance by JV.  Dealing all the way thru 9.

Find all the other postseason pitching performance better than that one.  And you can use Twitter cuz it'll the less than 140 characters to list them.

That pitching performance is now Astros legend.  This is up there with the greatest games an Astro has ever pitched.

No kidding.  I can't remember the last time I saw a complete game, but it wouldn't have mattered when that game was pitched.
