Astros at Massholes - 9/29/17
« on: September 29, 2017, 03:44:32 pm »
Still no Reddick.  Really would like to see him in a game this weekend, to work on timing if nothing else.

Lineup

Looks like Correa is going to end up around 13-15 plate appearances short of the 501 you need to qualify for the league leaders.

He'd be 4th in the league in batting right now with a .315 avg., just 2 points behind Hosmer.

Concerning.  Don't really want to go into the playoffs without him.

Per Hinch:

He's out for the rest of this final series. They sent Reddick back to Houston to be evaluated because he is still not symptom free.  Hopes he will be fine for team workouts Mon-Thurs and ready for postseason.

Was that pitch as meaty as it looked on game cast?  92mph fastball belt high right down the middle?
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

I'm glad the team is being proactive about the injury and its evaluation. The worst case scenario is that he tries to play through an injury and doesn't perform, despite his best intentions.

Astros are millimeters and inches away from vaunting, but, nonetheless, are being shutdown by Douglas Q. Fister.

Who cares, they were great together?

Also, maybe someone needs to have Morton hear what Bagwell was saying about him.

Top 6

Correa K's swinging on a 2-2 pitch, third time in 3 ABs.
Fister coming out after only 74 pitches--all are surprised.
MarGo, now facing David Price and turned around, lines out to left on the first pitch.
Gattis falls to 0-2, works it full, K's swinging to end the inning.

Yeah, I was telling my wife that the players themselves have played so many games and seen so many things that they probably carry much from one game to the next. But I can still hope.

Bottom 6

Rajai Davis singles up the middle on the first pitch. 29 steals on the old season.
Bogaerts (with Liriano warming) doubles into left; Davis stops at third. Here come the Sawx.
Pedroia dinks a grounder for an RBI to Altuve. One down, one in, Bogaerts to third, and Liriano coming in.
Benintendi--infield in--quickly down 0-2, K's swinging.
Infield backs up. Sparks thought maybe...and yes, Betts is walked intentionally. Strohm to the mound.
Always seems like Moreland hits well against us.
Moreland, runners on the corners, two outs, ahead 3-0, Devo warming, watches Betts steal second (nice pick of the short-hop by Correa), 3-1, walks to load the bases. AJ out again. Enter Devo.
Hanley Ramirez (3-3 all time against Devo) grounds into a 6-4 FC. Whew!

3-2 Astronauts

Beltran reaches on an E5 on a hard-hit grounder Devers couldn't hang onto.
Yuli pops out foul of first base.
Fisher K's swinging on a 2-2.
Springer pops out to an in-sprinting Betts in right field.
Nothing doing. Price from the bullpen is impressive. Glad we're getting to see it now.

Still 3-2.

Addison Reed in for Price.
Bregman, leading off, flares one for an out to left.
Altuve grounds out 6-3.
Correa walks. Advances to second on a PB.
MarGo  IBB'd after the PB.
Gattis unluckily smashes into a 5-4 FC on a nice play by Devers and Pedroia.
Shitfuck.

Still 3-2. Harris coming in?

Yep, Harris.
Bogaerts K's on an unchecked swing in 4 pitches; is pissed.
Pedroia (Kimbrel warming) walks.
Benintendi (Brock Holt pinch-running for Pedroia) K's swinging on the 4th pitch.
Betts watches as Holt is thrown out by Centeno on a pitch in the dirt. This may be overturned. Red Sox challenging.
He's out!

Still 3-2.

Some insurance would be grand.
Beltran, facing Kimbrel, hammers a single up the middle.
Maybin runs for Beltran.
The Kimbrel: a bird of prey.
Yuli up. Maybin attracting notice. Maybin thrown out stealing.
Astros challenging. I think he's safe. Nope, out. That bites. I think he made it.
Giles warming.
Yuli grounds out 6-3.
Fisher, full count, takes strike 3.

Still 3-2.

Ramirez doubles with 2 out. Nothing's ever easy. Chris Young in as the pinch runner.

But Devers grounds out 4-3 on the first pitch!

100 wins for the Astros!!! And the Red Sox are still wondering whether they'll win their division!

Giles in.
Betts, down 0-2 on a pair of sliders, grounds out 6-3.
Moreland, seeing nothing but sliders thru 1-2, 2-2, lines the first fastball he sees to MarGo for the second out.
Ramirez, seeing nothing but triple digit heat thru 0-2, groundball doubles on a hanging slider into left.
Chris Young pinch running.
Devers grounds out 4-3!

Win 100!

So the good news:  while I've been out of the country the last couple of weeks, the Astros are 13-2.

The bad news:  I land back in Houston in about an hour.

If Peacock starts, I’d think
seriously about Morton in the pen. He can dominate for 6-9 outs.

I think I'd flop that order, but I would definitely think about using them as a tandem.

I like what you said a few days ago about him. He wants the ball. Also the quote I saw I from him about seizing the opportunity. He seems to grasp the situation and has the fire.  Not everyone has that mentality.

The good news:  I understand you can alter the course of history if you stick enough Frito pies down you neck.

11-3 while I was abroad but undefeated since I've been back. Also, it's good to be back.

Nice win.

Definitely fun to watch.

No kidding. Sprinting to the finish line. When one or two falter, another 2 or 3 are there to pick them up.  Someone(s) are nearly always hot.

The depth on this team is unreal.

I leave the country on the 3rd and wont be back until the 19th, maybe the cosmic balance will somehow maintain.

With all due respect to the BBGs ...

Tonight's Astros win clinched home field advantage for Houston in a prospective Astros-Nationals World Series.

Ooops, AJ brought in August Liriano, not September Liriano. Going to try Devenski now.

Liriano got the biggest out in the game.  A good hold IMO.

Ramirez doubles with 2 out. Nothing's ever easy. Chris Young in as the pinch runner.

It was rough seeing that hanging slider right down Broadway on that 0-2 pitch.   Glad it was just a double.

When Bagwell is in the booth they need to tape that shit and send it straight to the Library of Congress.

I would love a tape of Bagwell and Blum talking baseball.

I had this same thought. At 0-2, I said to my dog and TV, “do not hang a slider. Bury it.” Centeno went out to talk to him and, I’ll bet, said the same thing. The damn, he hung one. If Bregman has been guarding the line, it was an out, but we are lucky he hit it on the ground.

I do not think so. Striking out Moreland was huge. Liriano did not get the call he should have gotten on the first pitch to Devers, missed with the next pitch FB, and he could not recover. The August version would not have Ked Moreland.

If Peacock starts, I’d think
seriously about Morton in the pen. He can dominate for 6-9 outs.

Does is concern you that Morton hasn't pitched out of the pen this year whereas Peacock has?

I said IF Peacock starts.

Not if he starts an inning. I probably would not have him come in with runners on.
