The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

I had a tomcat come home once with a gaping gash over his right eye. I was too late to take him to the vet so I superglued the gash together and took him to the vet the next morning. All the vet did was give him a shot, he said I did a good job with the superglue and no need to stitch. RIP Slick. He was a good boy.

I buy Michelin almost exclusively.  I made the mistake of buying Falcon tires once for the Infiniti, because it takes a weird size and that's all they had.  They were mediocre tires and loud as fuck.  Never again.

I just switched to Hancook. I've always put Michelins on this car, but I realized it was now 17 years old and didn't need fancy tires anymore. It turns out the Hancooks are every bit as good as the Michelins.

My dad uses them, he's had some problems with getting holes in them, but that may also be job related.

In my mind, I don't see what the age of the car has to do with the quality of tires I buy.  I don't view it as "fancy" vs "plain".  I want the best tires I can get for safety, not for decoration.

Altuve!!  I need new tires.  And a new battery. I'm on my second ML, at about 300,000 miles between the two of them.  I've liked how the diesel has held up, but I need a new battery too, and I won't buy another.  To get to the battery you have to remove the back seat, and I don't like the notion of a car where you can't change your own battery.  Bregman!

B4:

Reddick strikes out swinging
Altuve homers to RF on the first pitch
Correa...works the count full...rolls over on a meatball...grounds out 6-3
Marwin slaps a single to LF against the shift
Bregman doubles to LCF, Marwin scores
Beltran chops out 4-3 on the first pitch

But the Astros take a 2-1 lead

I imagine most of what one might think of tires being "good" or "bad" mostly can be attributed to luck. I've gotten as much as 5 years without needing to change tires. Maybe it's the fact I use Goodyear, maybe it's good luck. Then, I know very little about tires

Never been a fan of Firestone.  To me they're like Goodyear...sort of "builder's grade" tires that you get from a dealer.

As for batteries, the last few I bought have been Interstate, but I honestly haven't had much good/bad experience with any brand.  I buy my tractor batteries at Walmart.

I've come to the realization, you can't go wrong with Michelin.

I like their travel guides too.  I went to a Michelin three star restaurant once.  It was right after Christmas, and not many people were there.  They didn't sell tires, which you'd think if Michelin was going to like them they would do.

The irony (yes the real kind of irony) of Sears' demise is that they became what they were through the mail order model.  At one time you could get anything through sears...clothes, appliances...hell you could buy a house from Sears and they'd deliver it to your...well...maybe not your door.  But no matter what it was, if you wanted it, you just ordered it from Sears.  They let Amazon kick their ass via internet sales, putting their eggs into the brick and mortar basket.

I cancelled Direct TV today. The difference on the discount between an active employee and a retired employee for the package I had was $109.00. fuck that shit. MLB charged me $3.99 for MLB TV for the remainder of the year. I'm in Spain and Portugal from the 3rd to the 19 of October. I'm guessing I need to add some kind of international plan so I can watch the playoff games while traveling. Fucking AT&T's website suck balls.

We owned one in the Norhill Heights.  Knowing us, it was probably the same house.

Altuve has seen three pitches tonight and hit three fly balls to RF.  Luckily, one went a little deeper than the others.

I'm a Hankook man myself. Although six months ago or so I had to replace a tire and didn't feel like buying an entire set. Nor did I feel like driving all over hell and half of Georgia loking for a Hankook so I now have three Hankook and one who knows what.

And I'm about to need to change the Hankooks. This'll be the third time in ten years so I guess I'm right on the every five years cycle.

What I really should do is buy a new car but I HATE spending money on cars.

I don't get it...whenever the Astros have a runner on 1B and he runs to 2B on the pitch, he's out.  Whenever opponents do it, he's safe.  Something's not fair.

T-Mobile, the greatest carrier in history, gives you free international roaming.

You'll find that in European cities free wifi is fairly ubiquitous. You should also just be able to get a local chip with pre-paid service that will give you data if you're going to be off the beaten path a bit.

Where the hell are you going to go, anyway?

If you want to watch it via cellular data, yeah, you'll need an international data plan, or pay a million dollars in roaming charges.  You can do wifi for free, if it's available.

Pretty sure you will need a VPN to mask your IP as well.
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

I haven't been to Portugal, but the green soup in Porto is supposed to be worth the effort.  In Madrid, visit at least one guitar store.  I like Felipe Conde near the opera house (if it's still there).  And at night visit the bars on the streets between the Puerto del Sol and the Plaza Mayor for tapas.  It feels stupid until about the third glass of wine, but there's no reason to eat anywhere else.  And the Prado is the greatest museum in the world.  Do you need somebody to carry your bags?

I guess it depends. I can watch MLB App as long as I am in Houston.   When I travel it doesn't work because I am out of market.  When I was in Italy it didn't work and I had to use my slingbox to watch.

Oviedo is an oddly pleasant place for a city with basically nothing going on. You can say that about a lot of places in Spain, though.

I guess it depends. I can watch MLB App as long as I am in Houston.   When I travel it doesn't work because I am out of market.  When I was in Italy it didn't work and I had to use my slingbox to watch.

I can watch MLB app from anywhere in the world.  In fact, it only works when I'm out of market.  I'm watching right now from Sumatra.

Something is bizarrely fucked up in your settings because mlb.tv only cares if you are in market.

If you're in Zanzibar you can watch whatever you want.

As long as your billing address isn't Houston.   The way I access MLB app is through my directv account, it is only good while you are in Houston.

From the FAQ
What if I travel out of town; can I still stream the games?
Not at this time.

Astros just intentionally walked the go-ahead run...unconventional strategy.

Well, you have to subscribe to MLB TV also to see games anywhere.

You're not using an MLB.TV account then, you're just viewing using the "in-market" streaming option.

Devo for the 8th

Moncada - goes down swinging.
Aberu - reaches base E6
Delmonico - strikes out
Garcia - is intentionally walked
Davidson - goes down swinging at the circle of death
Middle of 8

Yes.

If you go in the winter and exclude the central rooms with Las Meninas and all that, there is basically no one around to bother you. I have on any number of occasions found myself basically alone in the Goya area on the south side of the museum. It is a truly glorious experience.

It was probably the last time I was there I was leaving, dark outside, and I was walking down the Paseo del Prado. Some idiot woman pulled out nearly into a bus and I almost laughed myself sick when the irate busdriver flung open the door and screamed at her, SUBNORMAL!, as this is a word I myself regularly employ in similar situations.

Why, just the other day I shouted it out the window at someone doing god inows what. My poor mother and my son were in the back seat. Mom leaned over and told my son, He just called that guy Superman!

Correct.  But I thought you couldn't get the MLB.TV app and watch Astros games, if you lived in Houston.   I know that was the case for several years when the Astros weren't carried on DirecTV.

You can now get in-market streaming, provided you have a subscription to ATTSportsNet and otherwise get the games via a cable or satellite provider.  That is new this year.

But to get all games, you have to have an MLB.TV subscription.  Then you can watch any game from anywhere in the world.

The first time I went to the Prado, we spent a half-day.  I knew quite a bit about Spanish art, and we hired a guide who ran us through the highlights.  It was fine.  The second time we spent a full day, and spent most of it looking at Goya.  Who knew there was so much Goya?  It seemed like there were about 9 rooms just of the late stuff.  It was exhausting but unforgettable.

Throw a dart at a (Michelin) map and go there for a week. Can't go wrong.

I've been fortunate enough to go all over and I've been to all sorts of places I had no expectation of and as I left I'd think, I really could have spent a lot more time here.

If you have time, going to Toledo for the El Greco isn't bad either.  Toledo is kinda weird but the art is good.  And of all of it I like the Velazquez/Zurbaran/Murillo best of all.  Just an amazing place.

I could go to the Prado three days a week for a full month and not get tired of it. By the way, you don't want to miss the other two art museums in town, either, especially the Reina Sofia.

Another place I could spend an exaggerated amount of time in is the Museu de Catalunya in Barcelona. Stupidly I have only been there once and because I am an ignorant fucker I was completely unprepared for the outrageous excellence the place offers in staggering quantity.

That's another pretty busy section but not busy enough to keep you from being stunned by what you are seeing.

If you hang around long enough you can get some unimpeded distance on the pieces you want to view.

It was crowded, but worth the effort.  And there's a lot of Netherlands stuff. But you can only see the Spanish stuff in glimpses anywhere else.

If you haven't read them, the Captain Alatriste novels by Reverte-Perez are fun reading.

Giles

Anderson - singles through the gap to LF
Hansen - strikes out
Narvaez - ball, strike swinging, strike, ball in the dirt, Anderson advances to second on the WP, caught looking for the second out.
Sanchez - Giles up 1-2, swing and misses a pitch McCann drops and throws out runner at first.

The Astros win!!!!

Thanks for all the tips. I might have to go to the Prado coming and going--flying in and out of Madrid. A couple of my best friends moved to Porto from Austin a year and a half ago and they absolutely love it. The couple I'm visiting in San Miguel de Salinas are Brit Ex-Pats, my brother-in-law's sister and husband-they're crazy.

I had Yokohama tires on an old Datsun pickup I had back in the day.  They were very good tires.

I did very well with Yokohama about 20 years ago. Put 80k or so miles on them.

But don't I need some kind of international data plan through AT&T wireless at well?

Don't overpay for AT&T's Int'l data. Last i was in Ireland, i was able to hire a 4G cellular hotspot for the entire month for 100 Euros. It was good for all of the EU. They shipped it to my hotel so it was there when I arrived and it came with a pre-paid return envelope for when I returned. Do some research and see if there's something available to you. Here is the one I used but it's Ireland-based.

Did not bother me either. I watched the game and read the GZ this morning.

ETA: if I had still been in Calif, it would have bothered me a lot. I kept up with the games in LA and back in Houston last week through Sunday with the GZ.

I did PBP as long as I could yesterday.  But you're not crazy about my PBP anyway...
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.
