Astros with runners on the corner...two out...

The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

T1:

Springer hits one 687 feet high, but only 378 feet deep, so Upton catches it at the wall, then says "Wow"
Bregman grounds out 6-3 on the first pitch
Altuve bunt single on the first pitch
Correa singles to CF on the first pitch, Altuve to 3B
Gattis flies out F9

Two hits, but the Astros strand a pair in a quick 9-pitch inning

0-0

Well that didn't take long for Fiers...a pair of leadoff doubles...1-0 Angels

Thought we had seen the last of Fiers as a starter. Hope for good news on McCullers.

Instead of starting Fiers, a forfeit would have at least let the guys rest.

Four doubles so far...3-0, and Fiers getting his tits ripped off.

I'm starting to think a forfeit would not only give the guys a rest, but would keep the score respectable.

Hinch treated this like a throwaway game, now Fiers has to suck it up and throw 200 pitches if he has to.

B1:

Phillips doubles to LF on a 1-2 pitch
Trout doubles to LF, Philips scores
Upton grounds out 5-3 on a nice play by Bregman
Pujols strikes out looking...bitches about it
Calhouns doubles to RCF, Trout scores
Simmons doubles to LF, Calhoun scores
Valbuena homers to RF, Simmons scores
Cron grounds out 6-3

But Fiers does his thing...5-0 Angels

Fiers should not pitch for the Astros again this season, unless some other pitcher blows the game by giving up 5 runs in the first and Fiers has to eat innings during a lost cause of a game.

Have they said anything about Marisnick? It looked to me like he was favoring his right wrist after that stupid attempt for the extra base.

In case anyone was wondering...Clippard in and throwing puss.  It's 9-0 Angels

Popping in late to say DFA Fiers yesterday.

I checked my phone between games umpiring tonight (I'm umping softball on Wednesdays) and apparently instead of thinking it, I said "oh for fuck's sake." and one of the players from the game before said "Just saw the Astros score?"

Ugh.

Seriously.  There is no fucking way Fiers comes out of this game if I'm managing.  He goes six.  Period.
Exactly. And we could all have gotten a good night's sleep before catching the 9th inning.

Have they said anything about Marisnick? It looked to me like he was favoring his right wrist after that stupid attempt for the extra base.

Been sent back to Houston to get thumb looked at. Hinch saying it "didn't look good".
Maybin pickup looking good.

Did Fiers seriously throw behind Valbuena last night?

What a waste of skin and tattoo ink that fucking guy is.

Yes, and then Valbuena hit the next pitch for a single and flipped the bat, of course.

Threw over his head. Like a 70 mph fastball 30 feet over his head.  Think Randy Johnson and John Kruk in the ASG.  He wasn't going to hit Valbuena, so I'm not say he "seriously" did it, but he definitely wanted to make a point.

I should have known better, Fiers gave up doubles like Harvey gave up rain.  I wasn't really watching at that point, but heard Blum on the broadcast.

That he could throw a pitch that couldn't be hit?

That might have been the only one. Though Jose Altuve and Evan Gattis may have taken a whack at it.

So this on DFA. It is infuriating to follow Verlander's heroic stat with "my arm is tired" from McCullers and "I give up" from Fiers.

I think that was misreported.  They left off "...for them to hit." from the quote.
