Fiers a mess early...walks to the first two hitters and is all over the place

This is the game that are going to lose.  White and Fiers are hot messes already.

Reyes...full count...walks
Aoki...3-1...walks, Reyes to 2B

d'Arnaud grounds out 6-3...Reyes scores, Aoki to 3B
Smith singles to LF, Aoki scores
Rosario...0-2...1-2...2-2 on a check swing...grounds out 5-3

I don't expect them to make the postseason, so anywhere will be gravy.  If it's Indonesia, the gravy will contain fish eyeballs.

B1:

Springer hits one hard right at SS who bobbles it, but Springer never ran out of the box, so it's easy to recovery and get the 6-3
Bregman singles to LCF
Altuve...0-2...1-2...2-2...full up...strikes out swinging...Bregman was running on the pitch and is safe at 2B as the SS drops a perfect throw
Correa...3-0...walks
Reddick singles to RF...Bregman scores, Correa to 3B
Maybin grounds into FC on the first pitch...Reddick out 5-4 at 2B

2-1 Mets

Interesting that with all the runs the club has scored this year not one single hitter is likely to reach 100 RBIs. Marwin leads the club with 76.
He must have a big lead in RBIs per AB.

Point of order: Springer ran out of the box but stopped when he thought it was a lineout, which it would have been if the SS had not boxed the ball.

I assumed he exploded last night after Baylor lost to Liberty.
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

I really appreciate everything Fiers gave the club during May/June/July, but he should not take the mound again this year.
I remember all the good times me 'n Miller enjoyed
Up and down the M1 in some luminous yo-yo toy
But the future has to change - and to change I've got to destroy

Agree. He should end up on the 60-day DL with some kind of injury.

When did Springer forget that running to first is part of the deal?  Loafed on first one that Reyes dropped and seemed to trot on this one too.

The first one was on a line that he thought was caught so he stopped running.  This one was into the shift...could easily by 2 fer 2

Yeah, he saw that first one as a caught line drive, and that's when he gave up. You can't take 600 ABs/year and go all out on all of them.

B3:

Bregman singles to CF
Altuve...3-2...walks, Bregman to 2B
Correa...full up...singles to LF, Bregman scores, Altuve to 2B
Double steal...Altuve takes 3B, Correa nabs 2B...Mets challenging play at 3B...looks really close...call upheld...Correa with his first bag of the season
Reddick with a nubber up the 3B line for an infield single...Altuve scores, Correa to 3B
Maybin homers to LF...Correa scores, Reddick scores
White grounds out 1-4-3
Centeno lines out to SS on the first pitch
Kemp doubles off the LF wall, thrown out 7-5 trying to stretch to a triple

But the Astros vaunt...lead 6-4

Reyes steals 2B, throw hits him, ball bounces into LF, Reyes moves to 3B on a TE2
Aoki singles to CF on the next pitch and Reyes scores

And Fiers finally put out of our misery...Clippard in

Rosario...0-2...1-2...hit by pitch, d'Arnaud to 2B
Nimmo...3-1...walks...Aoki scores, d'Arnaud to 3B, Rosario to 2B

Not even then.  There is no reason for Mike Fiers to take the mound again this season.

It's too bad. He's got good stuff. You can't have the month he did in (the entire) July and not.  I can't reasonably say it's the classic $0.10 head. He just seems to fall into predictable patterns that the hitters seem to recognize and tee off on.
Another trenchant comment by a jealous lesser intellect.

Maybin reaches on an E6
With White at the plate, Maybin is thrown out 2-6 trying to take 2B.  Thrown out rather easily, fankly

At any rate...8-6 Astros

Playing the Mets is a good pick me up, but this weekend was the team we saw earlier this year.  Hopefully they've put August behind them.

Lagares - good range; no arm. The Astros ran on him every chance.

Threw out Kemp on the run. Great play.

Great hustle play by Lagares for sure, but the throw while perfect was only about 100 feet.

on the run after scooping the ballpark with one hand. Try it, and report back.

Easy shit like that I would knock it down and boot it  a couple times just  to add a degree of difficulty.
