I wonder why Hince seems to start everybody as soon as they're called up? McCann hasn't been overworked since the ASB yet Centeno is starting.

Probably because he thinks he needs a bat in the lineup.

I wouldn't be surprised if that mix-up that got McCann in the wrist last night doesn't need a day or two of rest.

That makes sense and is "on theme".

I don't think Centeno is an offensive upgrade from McCann. He had a couple of good ABs for the Astros this year but over five years he has 244 Major League ABs for an OPS of .661. McCann has 265 ABs this year for an OPS of .745
He breezed him, one more time!

The whiskey didn't work last night. Will have to change it up today. The boys need a win.

I'm surprised that Fiers doesn't throw harder than he does.  He has excellent mechanics.

Altuve lobbed a throw to Gurriel on one out, Gurriel said something, Altuve said something back, and then on Altuve's next opportunity he threw a 95mph heater to Gurriel.

Altuve was pretty animated on both ends.  After he threw the ball 100 mph to end the inning he sprinted past Gurriel without looking at him or saying anything

Marwin and Altuve, currently the only Venezuelans on the team, have both fucked up today. In the meantime Venezuelan citizens can not leave their country and their assests are not only frozen but in danger of being appropriated by the state.

I hope they have previously gotten their families out of that shithole.

No one with any money is still there. Unless of course they're Chavistas wealthy from having stolen petro money. And I would imagine many of those guys have had the good sense to get out.

There are TONS of venes here now. If you don't recognize them by their accent you can easily spot them at the grocery store. The recent arrivals usually need a guided tour of the place and a lengthy briefing on how it all works. It's equal parts hilarious and very sad.

B5:

Marisnick doubles down LF line
Fisher with an infield single up the middle...Barney gets to it to keep it on the infield and save a run for now, but can't get Fisher running
Altuve singles to RCF...Marisnick scores, Fisher to 2B
Reddick bounces to 1B...out 3-1...Fisher to 3B, Altuve to 2B
Gurriel grounds to SS...right though the wicket...E6...Fisher scores, Altuve to 3B
Marwin with a sac fly to deep LF...into the cutout...Altuve scores
Beltran with an infield single on a slow chopper to 2B...Barney in shallow RF on the shift...Marwin to 2B
Bregman grounds out 6-3

But the Astros put up a crooked number...lead 3-2

Astoundingly bad defense by the Jays, but I won't feel guilty about it because Marwin missed that HR about a foot into the nook to the right of the yellow line along the CF side of the Crawford boxes.

Pillar...0-2...grounds to 2B...no one there on the shift...single
Aoki homers to RCF, Pillar scores
Barney hit by pitch

And that's all for Fiers, Gregerson in

Bautista...takes two pitches right down the middle and it's 3-0...3-1 on what should have been strike three...pops out F5
Martin flairs one into CF, Barney running on the pitch moves to 3B
Donaldson taps back to the mound...Gregerson comes home to get Barney 1-2...Martin to 2B and Donaldson reaches on the FC
Smoak doubles to deep CF...Marisnick had it in his sights, but gets spun around going back and can't get it...not pretty...Martin scores, Donaldson scores
Morales grounds out 4-3 on the next pitch

6-3 Jays

The team needed that.  Hopefully that gets them on a roll again.

Did not expect that at all. Special thanks to my 9 month old for pushing his lifetime attendance record to 4-0.

Astros had 16 hits this game.  That snuck up on me.

Julia is such a good sport about that shit. I hope they take up a collection to buy her a new dress.

I think Springer has a real hard on for Julia...he'll take care of her.

Great win! B9 sure was a blast. Made that last bit of yard clean-up a lot easier.

Lately Yuli has been reminding me some of Moises. Not because they have similar swings or even similar approaches or anything like that, but because Moises seemed and Yuli seems totally nonplussed by who the pitcher is or how tight the situation is.

Reminds me of the Polish/Slovak family that somehow got visas and moved into our neighborhood in the early '80's.

Fascinated by grocery stores.  Literally, and I mean it, 10 year-old me learned a thing or 5 about wants vs needs.  Their kids, my age, loooooved turkey.  Didn't know it even existed until then.  We would smoke or roast a whole turkey just for them and us on random weekends, no holiday needed.
You may ask yourself, "How do I work this?"

Yuli should be at third and Marwin at first.

Got a good look at Julia’s legs this week.  I can understand his pain.

Nonplussed is one of those words that actually means the opposite of what it implies. Kind of like spendthrift.

But unless I am totally missing your point, I agree. He's a pure hitter, no matter what the situation.

I wonder if Hinch thought about pinch running for Beltran. Neither White nor Davis look like sprinters, but they might be slightly faster than Beltran.

Well one of them was going to have to come into Reddick's spot in the order in the event it went to the 10th.  That leaves the other as your DH the rest of the game.  Not sure I like that prospect either.

Maybe I'm just seeing things, but in addition to his hot streak at the plate, Beltran seems to have found another gear on the base paths.  Still not a real fast gear, but another gear nonetheless.

I would have run for Beltran earlier in the series, I can't remember the day offhand, Thursday maybe. but he couldn't score from first on a double (there were no outs at the time) and the Astros ended the inning with runners stranded on second and third. It was the seventh inning but clearly a crucial point in the game.

I mean, if a third of the lineup is guys who were in AAA a week ago runs suddenly become a lot more valuable than they were when you had three guys with an OPS of 1.000 in there instead. Hinch is going to have to NL some runs.

Doubtful. Beltran scored, and Pettis should have sent him Saturday night.
