Watching the Rangers and Yanks on FoxSW, they are doing a promo for Friday Fireworks to the tunes of Jimmy Buffett. "Cheeseburger" Ka-Pow! "Margaritaville" Bang! "Come Monday" Boom! So gangster....
Everyone's talking, few of them know
The rest are pretending, they put on a show
And if there's a message I guess this is it

According to Blum, the Mariners wear these unis every Sunday, throwing back to late 80s/early 90s. The precedent has been set for the Astros to flatter with imitation and institute Shooting Star Sundays. Finally, an Astros marketing scheme that the OWA faithful can get behind.

Martes walks the bases loaded. Not a great start.

Martes has walked the bases loaded in the first....
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

Based on what I've seen this series, Zunino has looked vulnerable to the high heat, even though his bat is scorching in June.

His uppercut swing may have something to do with that.

And Gurriel immediately grounds into a 6-4-3 double play...SS kicked it around a bit, but with Beltran jogging to 2B and Gurriel jogging to 1B...it was pretty easy

Mariiners get their first "hit", on a comebacker that Martes fields, throws and hits Dyson's ankles.  Not sure how that's not an error.

Hit by 0-2 pitch loads the bases.  Twice the M's have loaded the bases without hitting the ball past the pitcher

My guess was "call stands" but dumbass Angel forgot what the call was on the field.

That's what I'm guessing too.  Hernandez signaled safe, then the home plate ump ran over and said "he was out".

Funny thing is, that wasn't even the worst part of it. The HPU fucked up the call and then the geniuses in NY fucked it up again.

The literally fucked up that call threes way to Sunday.  Literally.

When the manager comes out in the middle of an inning to chew your ass out on live television, and you respond by giving up a 2-run double...yeah, you're looking to get sent down

That was night and day difference.  Not just in quality of pitches, but in the pace of the game.  Martes was a human rain delay, pacing behind the mound after almost every pitch.

So I thought about you while watching the America's Cup this weekend.  Team USA is getting killed at the helm...and why the hell do we have some goddam banana bender driving our boat?  Team USA down 6-1 in the race to 7.  But based on last time around, we might have those sheep shaggers just where we want 'em.

The same as gambling everywhere else, they have casinos, sports books, horse tracks... But in Australia winning is tax free. The government figures it's not earned income--you didn't earn anything, you just got lucky.

Gambling winnings are not earned income in the US either.  But they are taxable.  We tax the shit out of everything, whether you've earned it or not.

Great whites are a breed apart, but in general I don't understand why Australian sharks seem to be so much more aggressive than sharks elsewhere. For example, I wouldn't think twice about diving in waters that are home to bull sharks or tiger sharks, and I have done so in three oceans. But man, I would never dive in Australian waters if I knew that those sharks were likely to be present.

It depends on where you are. Sharks are all but unknown in South Beach, for example. But while diving I've seen countless very large bull sharks two, three hundred yards off the coast of Palm Beach.

I've never been diving on the Gulf coast of Florida but I'm happy to believe that there are many sharks of all kinds over there.

Fuck, make me get out of my hammock and find the Worrell button.

I've seen sharks in the water on both coasts, but I've found it to be hit or miss.  Mostly nurse sharks and lemon sharks.  Bull sharks will go pretty far up into fresh water too, at least a lot farther than people realize.

Big debate now about culling the great whites, since it stopped a number of years ago the number and sizes have increased and so has the number of shark attacks (suprise suprise).

I've mentioned this before but a friend of mine has a colleague that was killed by a great white during his safety stop not a hundred meters off the (quite popular) beach at Glenelg.

Hard to believe that Brian McCann has more stolen bases this year than George Springer.

A buddy recently went on a fishing trip in Louisiana; I think it was vermilion bay. He normally wade fishes in flats and such off the coast of Texas in shallow water, but he stayed in the boat in Louisiana because the service who arranged his trip informed him that the area was densely populated with sharks.

He was 16 out of 20 two years ago and then was caught on roughly 50% of this attempts last year. My guess is that he was told to slow his roll given his lack of success, which I would guess is due to a combination of bad reads and a (relatively) slow first step. He strikes me as a guy with a high top speed but who accelerates at a lower rate than the typical burner.

How about there in Panama?  My dad, who lived there as a teen, was wary as hell.  Had two teen friends mauled and killed by sharks there in Panama.

I have seen very few dangerous sharks in the waters here. There are tens of thousands of reef sharks, but those are as harmless as a snapper. And I have never heard of a shark attack in Panamanian waters in all the time I've been here. Drownings happen fairly often, sadly, and they are publicized, but I've never heard of an attack.

Yup, he was there from 1957-1961.  The beaches near US Army bases had shark nets at the beaches but teens were known to swim outside of the nets as a display of bravado.

What a job by Feliz today.  Looked like the ship was ready to capsize, and he reached down and pulled it upright, gave them a chance to get things going.

Seven scoreless innings from the pen overall.  The day off is needed.

The bullpen deserves to pound some suds on the flight home tonight. Really solid, entirely unexpected (from about 3:30 to 4:30 pm) team win.

And kudos to Hinch for going to the pen as early as he did. I can imagine other managers leaving the starter out there long enough to blow the game for the sake of saving the pen.

Well, this makes perfect sense.

The only thing I know for sure is that Gattis is a terrible defensive catcher.

I think he is no better than adequate, but not terrible.

His tag attempt was beyond terrible in the 2nd. No idea why they didn't turn that call over, but he did exactly what you shouldn't do.

Agreed on the tag. What I mean is overall, not one play. I think he is an adequate backup catcher.

Yes. An adequate backup catcher that hit a shit ton of HR's last year and still has that ability. Gattis is a luxury most teams would drool over.

I had to run out on the game before it finished, we moved into a new house a couple of weeks ago and the missus has started ripping out wall, ceilings and bathrooms etc, so when the workers showed up I had stuff to do.  A couple of guys knocked down a big brick pier that had been supporting the roof, it was a hollow pier and at the bottom, set in mortar was a coke can from 1987 with America’s Cup Defence and a yacht and all that crap printed on it.  Not quite voodoo, but pretty damn strange considering this post.

He was available yesterday, but they decided to extend his rest.
Should be good to go by Tuesday's game.

I had almost the same thing happen to me doing some remodeling a few years ago.  Tearing the brick from the fireplace, there was an old Coke can there from the houses construction in 1977.  Wasn't any special about the can, other than it was period and had been sitting behind the bricks in my fireplace for nearly 40 years.  I gave it to my dad, who was in the can business, and has a pretty good collection.
