Excellent choice!
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

T1:

Betts grounds out 5-3
Pedroia lifts a routine lazy fly ball to LF, but because of the shift, there is no outfielder within 200 feet of it and it falls for a single
Bogarts strikes out swinging
Pedroia steals 2B easily...his second on the season...Hinch gonna challenge, but will lose it as it was clear Pedroia stayed on the bag...yep, upheld...another wasted challenge in the first inning.
Moreland...3-0....hammers one up the middle, but Correa is there on the shift...6-3

0-0

The pen should be reasonably rested tonight.  Not that you want them to have to go 5 innings, but everyone should be fresh and available.

Generous call by the hpu on Fisher. He wanted everybody in the stadium to know what an incredible caller of balls and strikes he is....

Then. The Boston 3b pulls exactly what I do in the back yard... catch the ball then dive after the fact to make it look better. I always include a roll, far more effective.

I'm not necessarily concerned about tonight. Just leery of starting another run like last week. Would be really nice to get 6 from fiers so that guys can be ready tomorrow with paulino on the mound

Sure.  You really need your starters to go more than 3-4 innings.

Particularly when all 5 are at risk of only giving you 3 to 4 innings in consecutive starts.

B4:

Springer...full count...draws a 10-pitch walk
Altuve...3-2...taps back to the mound...Springer was running, but it's still a 1-4-3 double play
Correa singles to LF
Gattis strikes out swinging at a pitch in the other box...Vasquez almost had to dive to catch it

1-0 Sox

Yeah, the only way it's a double play is if Altuve hits it hard right back to Pomeranz.  He hit  hard right back to Pomeranz

Tha Fonders 15s are cans, yes? I can get bottles here but 15 would run me about $40, or two MMP beers, however you want to look at it.

Is Founders owned by one of the large conglomerates now? I saw yesterday that All Day tallboys were sold at the Duane Reade at 57th and 6th for $6, which was a surprise, but Panama isn't exactly the consumer capital of the world.

This guy has a 4.48 ERA and a 1.4+ WHIP. Why the fuck aren't we punishing him? Other than the fact that he's a left-hander, which seems to really be a problem for us.

Moreland grounds out 4-3 with Altuve in shallow RF...can't really say the shift, as Altuve was in his normal spot between the bags, just REALLY deep
Benintindi grounds out 4-3
Young grounds to SS...Correa takes his time, counts the laces...fires to 1B, the ball bounces and Gurriel picks it to bail him out

1-0 still

It started when Berkman was in the booth commenting on how Springer had calmed his swing down a bit. I blame Lance.

Fisher bunts the first pitch, but is thrown out 5-3.  Third baseman was back and off the bag, but it was a terrible bunt, and Fisher put it in the only spot he could make an out
Marisnick flies out F9
Springer...full count...walks
Altuve walks, Springer to 2B
Correa singles to RF, Springer is out by 60 feet (that's not hyperbole) at the plate...score it 9-2.  Worst.  Send.  Ever.

1-0

The only way Springer was going to be safe was if the catcher dropped the ball, had a heart attack and died, and fell on top of the ball so that nobody else could retrieve it. It was that absurd.

We don't have Duane Reade here. We have Arrocha (which I always call 'arrecha' which means horny) and Metro. Those are the two main drugstore chains. You can get damn near anything you want in one of the larger Arrechas, anything but alcohol. It's weird, that's about the only place in the country you CAN'T buy alcohol. If I felt like it I could buy ten gallons of vodka at three in the morning on a Tuesday. Or I could take $20 and buy a six of Founder's.

I have no idea why certain things appear and then inevitably disappear here. Currently you can buy this horrible Polish beer, Turkish milk, soymilk and cola, just off the top of my head. In six weeks or six months I assume all that will be gone and who knows what will have appeared in its stead.

One day out of the blue several Founders products suddenly became available at one of the supermarket chains and several of the liquor stores. About the same time several Evil Twin products appeared, too. It's highly random.

There are four local brands of mass produced beer, Atlas, Balboa, Panama and Soberana. Most have Light and Red and Ice sort of offshoots that I generally avoid. A six of any of these will run you well under $4 at any supermarket. You could pay $5 or more at a chino if you aren't careful. They're brewed by two separate breweries and each is owned by one of the global giants or the other. I can never remember which is which and I don't see that it much matters.

As I have said, there is a growing microbrewery movement here, headed by Casa Bruja. Ther are several brewpubs, of which I especially like Rana Dorada.

I've never been to Tropic Star but everyone who has raves about it. I've fished from Las Perlas to Hannibal Bank and Montuosa and you really can't go wrong.

B7:

Gattis blown away on an 85 mph fastball
McCann homers to the upper deck in RF...he hit the living shit out of that ball

That's all for Pomeranz...Kelly in

Gurriel doubles off the RCF wall
Bregman...3-1...3-2...grounds out 6-3, Gurriel to 3B
Fisher...3-0...takes an intentional walk
Fisher steals 2B
Aoki...pinch hitting for Marisnick...works the count full...battling...lines one to 3B...Rutlege leaps and grabs it to end the inning

But new ball game...1-1

Yes.  Kalas was just describing how Betts never swings at the first pitch.  It's a "Fuck you BBGs" theme night.

T8:

Harris in...Springer moves to CF, Aoki stays in to play RF

Betts gets a cookie on the first pitch and hammers it for a homer run to LF...Kalas still bragging that Betts doesn't swing at the first pitch and the Red Sox don't hit home runs
Pedroia flies out F8
Bogarts pops out F4
Moreland strikes out swinging

2-1 Sox

Somebody went and hung a Mary Cassatt painting behind home plate.  Pretty cool.

Be good to have Oso Blanco come out of hibernation.

After that first swing I'm not hopeful.

B8:

Barnes in for the BoSox

Springer...2-0...massive cut falling to his knees making it 2-1...trying to lead off with a 6-run home run...3-1...3-2 as Springer flips the bat away...swings through a cookie down the middle...bitches to the ump about it
Altuve with a flair over the 1B bag for a double
Correa...3-0...four pitch walk
Altuve steals 2B as the throw hits Gattis's bat...Correa stands there and watches the whole thing to make sure to keep the double play in order
Gattis...after the four pitch walk, naturally swings at the first pitch in his eyes...1-2...rolls into 6-4-3 double play.  Nice job by Correa to make sure that was possible

2-1 Sox

Or why he stood there watching the ball roll around after the throw hit the bat.  Correa, for all his talent, does not have particularly good baseball instincts.

If Correa is on 2B, the Sox bring the infield in and that ball by Gattis plates two runs to give the Astros the lead.

I honestly don't know why McCann even bothers to throw sometimes.  He has absolutely zero chance of throwing out a runner with Feliz on the mound.

T9:

Feliz in

Benintendi grounds out 4-3
Young singles to CF
Young steals 2B as McCann throws the ball into CF, Young to 3B on the TE2
Bradley...now the Astros have to bring the infield in...hits one to Altuve who throws home Young out on the old 4-5-6-2-5 FC...Bradley to 2B
Rutledge...0-2...strikes out swinging

Astros coming to bat in the 9th, chasing a run

2-1

B9:

Kimbrel in

McCann strikes out looking
Gurriel grounds out 3-1
Beltran...pinch hitting for Bregman...waves at a pitch that bounces...takes strike two right down the middle...takes strike three for ball one...2-2 on a bouncer...fouls one off his foot...pops out F6

Astros mail in the loss...2-1

They'll post elite stats by the end of the year, but this is not an elite offense.
Dropping 40 runs on somebody in a three game series does not make up for all the times they've checked out for days and weeks at a time.
It's as if there are no other outcomes beside scoring double digits and struggling to avoid a shutout.

Fiers pitched a heck of a game.  The offense sure let him down along with our putrid baserunning gaffes with Pettis' send of Springer and Correa cementing himself to 1st. This loss hurts as bad as the Royals' comeback.

It's good, but it's not as awesome (vaunted?) as the stats appear.
And it's not good enough to carry a beaten up pitching staff.
Wasting a well pitched game, when the injury situation guarantees that those will be in short supply, is criminal.
