They should be able to. Storms to the south are tracking to the east and storms to the NW are tracking my SE but are 2-3 hours away.

Yep.  Landed about 30 seconds before Correa's jack last night.

B1:

Choo singles to CF
Choo to 2B  on a wild pitch as McCann whiffs at a pitch in the dirt
Andrus singles  up the middle, Choo scores
Andrus to 2B on a wild pitch on 0-2...went right between McCann's legs as he's late getting the glove down
Mazara strikes out swinging
Beltre grounds out 6-3, Andrus moves to 3B...woulda been a perfect double play ball
Stinky Odor strikes out swinging

A little shaky, but only give up the one run...Rangers lead 1-0

Possibly.  I went to Specs and got a couple of Malbecs, a couple of Pinot Noirs and a nice Negroamaro, which is what we'll probably have with dinner.  I have an Amarone I've been saving, but probably not tonight.  But you never know...

I love Amarones.

Me too.  It's like drinking butter.  I love Brunellos too.  The Negroamaro is pretty tasty.  They're from the Pulgia region (the bootheel), and are terribly underappreciated.

I bought some of the Campogiovanni Brunellos based on your recommendation, and those are fantastic. Accordingly, i will go hunt down a bottle or two of Negroamaro.

As your internet voice of reason, opening the best bottle of wine last is never the best operating procedure no matter how alluring it may be at the time.

When drinking wine, the onset of this hot, humid weather has me focused more on white (or rose) until I'm safely ensconced in my home after dark, and I've been thoroughly enjoying dabbling in vouvrays of late.

Oh I'm with you.  The Amarone wlll not be the fourth bottle.  I've been drinking a Chardonnay...one of Mrs. Hawk's "Tuesday Night' wines.  It's not awful.

The last couple Beltran homers have looked like he just kind of flicked the bat at the ball, but they both went upper deck. Sort of like Freddy Couples with a driver.

B2:

Lucroy with a swinging bunt single to 3B...Bregman barehands it, throws wild...nice play by Marwin to save the ball from going into RF
Gallo with a slow roller to 2B, only play is to 1B...4-3, Lucroy to 2B
Napoli punches out swinging on a good inside fastball
Hoying...quickly 0-2...1-2...strike out swining

1-1 after two

On Saturday morning, I tend to run from my house to the rice u. loop, run through Hermann park, and then head back home through Rice U. again. This morning on my way back home running down the north side of the rice campus I saw Biggio walking the other direction. I didn't notice him immediately -- he had on a round brim army hat, heathered, gray t-shirt and mirror shades, and I wasn't sure it was he until we had crossed paths. We live a few blocks away from each other, so I see him in his oversized pick-up with the windows down, an unlit stogie in his left hand from time to time. I would have like to have recognized him early enough to tip my cap as we passed, but hoped our brief encounter at 8:07 am would be a good omen for tonight's game.

Pretty standard fare...spicy sausage, fresh tomatoes...cook all day.  Nothing earth shattering, just good Sunday gravy.  On Saturday.

T4:

Aoki reaches on what's scored a TE-4, but probably should be a hit...even a good throw doesn't get him...ball goes into the dugout, Aoki to 2B
Springer grounds out 5-3
Reddick grounds out 3U, Aoki to 3B
Altuve grounds out 6-3

5-1 Astros

Sounds pretty on point and like it would pair well with a negroamaro.

It does.  The Negroamaro has a nice spice to it that really complements the spice in the sausage.  It's spicy, but not being thick like a Chianti.  I really like it.

B4:

Beltre grounds out 6-3
Odor...3-2...dribbles one past LMJ...Marwin can't put a fork in it...another 60-ft single
Lucroy grounds into the 5-6 hole...nice play by Correa, Marwin comes off the bag and tags Lucroy...Odor to 2B
Gallo...quickly 0-2...1-2...2-2...3-2...strikes out swinging

5-1 still

There's a place here that sells a sort of pork loin that has a series of ribs attached. The meat is curiously fat free and useful for certain applications. The ribs for some reason are shaved down and maybe two inches long at most. I don't understand why they do this but I like the cut because I immediately slice the ribs off the other portion and then maybe halve what I end up with. I brown the shit out of that when I make a tomato sauce. (I'm not Eye-talyin so I feel a little inauthentic calling it gravy.)

The difference that small amount of rib makes in the depth of the sauce is ridiculous.

T5:

Defensive changes for the Rangers...Gallo moves to 1B, Rua in to LF...Napoli out with back spasms

Correa lines out to RF
Beltran lines one off of Gallo's glove...inexplicably ruled a single
Marwin singles to RF...Beltran trots on over to 2B

Beltran at 2B...so catcher has to come out and change signs

McCann pops out F5...IFF rule is called
Bregman grounds into FC, Beltran out 5U

5-1

It looks plastic to me. But it's analog so you're losing any value you might get in a digital watch. So basically either way it's stupid.

I wouldn't mind two or three insurance runs. The Rangers are perfectly capable of exploding for five runs in an inning. I'd like a little more cushion.

Should be two outs and nobody on base. Instead, McClullers is going to have to work his butt off to get out of this inning.

I like a nice classic wrist watch. I went a few years without one when I got my first smart phone. I'm a little OCD and I got tired of digging the phone out of a pocket or case all the time just to see what time it was. When I worked I would wear cheap ass watches that were easily replaced. Now that I'm retired I'm wearing a real nice timepiece that I wouldn't wear when I worked because I would have fucked it up.

Lead off walks and then fucking up a perfect double play ball is not a recipe for success.

B5:

Rua leads off with a four-pitch walks
Hoying grounds to 2B, Altue goes to 2B and Correa drops the throw...E6, Hoying to 2B
Choo lines to CF..Springer with a diving catch, Rua tags and moves to 3B
Andrus doubles to CF, Rua scores, Hoying scores
Mazara with a four-pitch walk
Beltre...0-2...1-2...2-2...3-2...singles to LF, Andrus scores, Mazara to 2B

That's it for McCullers...Devo in

Odor strikes out swinging
Lucroy strikes out swinging

So Devo works out of it, but Rangers pick up three runs, two earned

5-4 Astros after five

Here's a guy that forgets Joe West is still gainfully employed.

It's amazing he still has a job.

The fox announcers openly mocked him earlier, which has to be a new low in umpiring critiques

This game is on Fox, but the announcers are splooging in their pants over the Rangers...Holy shit, Andrew Cashner is a god among men, apparently.
To be fair, they were doing that about the Astros during the 3rd inning.

Blummer mocks him all the time as well.  I think everyone knows he's awful except whoever makes the personnel decisions.

It's hard to "beat" Hank Conger.  Rick Wilkins was a butcher most of the time.

Right now I have a Tissot on, just tells time and date. I have a nice 35 year old Rolex that my dad gave me, I hardly ever wear it because it's worth more than my 04 Tundra. If I were going out on a fancy date I would wear it but then I'm still driving an 04 Tundra.

T7:
Casher the Great is out!  Leclerc in

Correa...works the count full...strikes out swinging at a slider in the dirt
Beltran grounds into shallow RF...Odor runs it down and throws out Beltran 4-1 as Beltran is dragging a tug boat down the line
Marwin...full count...walks...announcers incredulous that a ball 9 inches off the plate is not called a strike
McCann grounds out 3U

5-4 Astros at the stretch

We ate dinner tonight at a small-town Arkansas country club where we knew nobody. The food was great, but it was like walking into a stranger's house and taking over their dining room.

Gregerson out...Harris in

Odor strikes out swinging
Lucroy...quickly 0-2...1-2...2-2...Uncle Charlie's in the house!!!  Punchout ends the threat

5-4 Astros

Listening to the internet, I'm about 5 minutes behind on the game. It must be like that in Perth.

I don't know why Aussie Astro has such a hard time.  I get MLB.TV in the jungle in Borneo, pretty much real time.  You'd think they'd have reasonable internet in Perth.

T8:

Kela in for the Rangers...

Bregman 3-1...draws the leadoff walk
Kela balks, Bregman to 2B
Marisnick...who came into Aoki's spot...strikes out swinging at a pitch that bounces, Bregman to 3B...no word on what happened to Marisnick, only that he's out...scored a fielder's choice, not a wild pitch, so I assume they threw to 1B to get Marisnick.  But Ranger's sploogers won't say
Springer pops out to shallow LF, Bregman has to hold
Reddick pops out F5

5-4...announcers are stoked!!!

I broke down and bought an Epiphone Les Paul for my birthday, and I'm trying to figure things out now. I'm finally to the point where my left-hand fingers don't hurt all the time. Of course, I still suck, but I can now imagine that in a year or two I'll be able to play something.

T9:

Altuve homers to LF on the first pitch...his third hit tonight
Correa grounds out 6-3 on a nice play by Andrus up the middle

Kela is done...Claudio in

Beltran...3-0...swinging ...rolls one past the pitcher, but is dragging an aircraft carrier behind him and is out 4-3
Marwin...3-1...3-2...grounds out 6-3 on a nice backhand play by Andrus...Nitowski shits his pants with excitement!

6-4 Astros

I broke down and bought an Epiphone Les Paul for my birthday, and I'm trying to figure things out now. I'm finally to the point where my left-hand fingers don't hurt all the time. Of course, I still suck, but I can now imagine that in a year or two I'll be able to play something.

My wife bought me a Paul Reed Smith for my 40th.  I turn 50 in about 6 weeks.  No guitar this year, but I'm thinking that new pellet grill.

Giles in to try to close it out,..

Choo grounds out 6-3 into the shift right behind the mound
Andrus...who made that "sparkling play to end the top half"...3-1...walks
Andrus takes 2B without a throw
Mazara...2-0...2-1...3-1...3-2...strikes out looking...the Golden Sombrero
Beltre...down 0-2...1-2...2-2...singles to LF, Andrus scores
Deshields pinch running for Beltre
Odor...2-0...2-1...2-2...PONCHE!!!!

Astros Win!!!!

OK...opening another bottle...victory cigar!

Switching over to try to get UT a win over Long Beach State. Owls have survived to play again tomorrow.
I remember all the good times me 'n Miller enjoyed
Up and down the M1 in some luminous yo-yo toy
But the future has to change - and to change I've got to destroy
Oh look out Lennon here I come - land ahoy-hoy-hoy

Boys and girls...that was a big win.  Not a "must win", but that's a big win.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

Guarantees that the Rangers won't have a net gain in the standings for at least a couple of days.

It was a good win. Still a lot more to play but that was nice and satisfying for now.

Guarantees leaving Arlington having upped your lead against them.  YUGE!

Drinking a pinot noir...hand rolled stogie from Long Ash Cigars in my  hometown (Tampa....they have a smokin' hot Cuban chick named Ynez working there)

Of all the things this team is doing I am most impressed with their road play.

We've heard about her. You know, you'd think that AT&T, the greatest cell phone carrier in the history of the known universe, would sell a phone with a built-in camera.

"Creepy old white guy with a camera" is not the angle I usually go for.  Though she perked up when we talked about how the neighborhood looked 40 years ago.  Next time.

If you guys bonded over how the neighborhood looked 40 years ago I might suggest going a little younger on the waitress fixation front. By a factor of, oh, I don't know, decades.

Well *she* wasn't around 40 years ago. Her hair is jet black, not blue.

Nancy Grace's hair isn't blue, either, so you never know.

I don't know why Aussie Astro has such a hard time.  I get MLB.TV in the jungle in Borneo, pretty much real time.  You'd think they'd have reasonable internet in Perth.

Reliability is the issue, great on a good day but nearly unwatchable on the worst days.  I don't know too much about the technical crap but most of out internet is on the old copper phone system and apparently there is only some much you can do with it.  Pretty sure I read somewhere that Albania has faster internet speeds than we do.

The exciting news for me though is that we are packing up and moving home over the next week, the next house is on the new fiber network and I have been promised 100 mega bits, whatever the fuck that means?  I am assured I will stream like never before but I won't get my hopes up until I actually see it.

I hope to be able to watch games again in about a week so lets hope we keep this form for a while.

Go Astros!
