Experienced baseball observers: is Carlos Beltran merely in a slump, or showing signs of physical decline?

Probably a little bit of both. From what I've seen, his hands still look plenty fast. He's always taken a lot of strikes, too.

Morton simply misses the strike zone too often to be effective.  He has good stuff, just no command.

The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

Astros bats seem particularly slow tonight.  As Springer nearly takes off Avila's arm.

That strike three to Marwin was the exact same pitch as ball three.  The only difference was where the catcher was set up.

I don't think it's a tattoo of a heart on Jose Iglesias' face because he doesn't appear to have any other tattoos. I'm pretty sure a face is not the regular place for a person's first tattoo.

I once got hit on the back of the hand like that...after I'd caught the ball.  The hitter was so late, I'd already caught the ball before he swung.  He still got 1B.  I argued, but to no avail.

Well Evan squared that up, but ends up a sac fly.  Good baserunning by Altuve.  Astros cut the lead in half at least.

I have that on my second screen, it is getting pretty ugly. Napoli turfs his second pretty easy pop up - now 8 - 3.

Yuli walks on 4 pitches.
Bregman crushes one off LCF wall for 2B. Yuli to 3rd.
Aoki hits a sac fly to LF. Yuli scores. Knotted at 2.
Jake flies out to left.
Springer pops to 1B.
Astros tie it at 2 after 4.

the transition from grass or turf to cement or concrete while wearing spikes is dicey. Well done by Bregman to make the catch and not wipe out.

Iglesias Ks on a nasty Morton CB.
Kinsler (missed it but out)

Upton is not a good outfielder.

If I were their shortstop, I'd kick his ass in the dugout. That ball was EASILY Upton's.

Not to mention the fly ball that scored Gurriel for the tying run should have had a play at the plate.  The ball wasn't that deep and Gurriel isn't exactly a jackrabbit.  He just gave up on the play.

A chopped brisket sandwich topped with sliced sausage is a pretty popular offering at BBQ joints, although I prefer my BBQ meats as discrete selections on a plate personally.

Yeah, that's just wrong.  Each cut should be enjoyed for all it has to offer, not mixed like it was cheap filler.

You mean it's not in the rules that when you get runners at 2B and 3B with nobody out, the next two guys aren't allowed to put the ball in play?

T9:

Jordan Jankowski, making his Major League debut!

Mahtook strikes out swinging...that ball goes into the dugout for a souvenir
Romine strikes out swinging
Collins bounces one past Gurriel down the RF line for a stand up triple.  No word on where the RFer was, I guess getting a hot dog
Inglesias homers to LF, Collins scores...6-2 Tigers
Kinsler strikes out.

So Jankowski strikes out the side in his big league debut, but gives up a pair for a cool 18.00 ERA in his career.

6-2 Tigers, Astros with three outs to work with.

Astros down by a 4-spot...Wilson in for the Tigers...

Beltran pops out to 1B
Gurriel pops out to SS
Bregman homers to LF on the first pitch
Aoki singles to LF, off the glove of a diving Romine
Marisnick 3-1...flies out to CF on ball four in the dirt

2 Things.

1.) Stanton needs to get the fuck out of the booth. He jinxed Jankowski so hard. ONE SECOND before the home run, "Let's see if Jordan can get his first shutdown inning." I said out loud "Here comes the..." and he hit it out before I could finish.

2.) I then asked Buster who would hit the solo home run so they could talk about how the Astros never give up in the postgame. He picked Bregman, or at least that's what his bark sounded like.

Stanton is terrible. Big goofy grin whenever he is on camera and clueless comments. Indians?? Take a two-run lead?  Really?  And Victor Martinez pinch hitting while the screen shows his previous thre ABs??  And that was n the one inning I was able to watch.

He's great in the post-game, but he just brings nothing listenable to the table live during the game. His insights are completely overwhelmed by the goofy. He could (sadly) take some lessons from Blum. It's okay to be silly, but the most important thing is to be relevant and deliver correct information about the game.

Many of his mistakes could be helped if he let kalas take the lead a bit more. I don't remember if it was last night or Tuesday but kalas started to talk about a new tigers pitcher and Stanton just talked right over him.

Many of his mistakes could be helped if he let kalas take the lead a bit more. I don't remember if it was last night or Tuesday but kalas started to talk about a new tigers pitcher and Stanton just talked right over him.
That was last night. Just cut him off in mid-sentence.
