After losing three in a row getting swept at home the Astros still have the best record.

I bet Peacock and Reddick regretfully share a secret bond with knowing looks at each other and eye-rolls for everyone else.

Peacock still in the game, starting to scuffle a touch.
Strikes out some clown on a spinning, letter high breaking ball on 3-2.
Walks the next clown on 3-2, and here comes Hinch.

What a great job by Peacock. Devo whipping in from the bullpen. 1 out, 1 on.

Devo facing Mahtook with (who the fuck is) Tyler Collins on first.  Collins moving on the second  pitch, and he's out but called safe on a REALLY tough call. Altuve whapped him in the helmet just before he got to the bag. Reviewing now. Should be turned over. Super quick review, and he's out. 2 outs now, 1-1 count. 1-2. 2-2 on a high spinner. Filthy, filthy change that Mahtook swings about an hour ahead of, ponche!

Mid 5, 1-0 Astros.

Altuve flies out lazily to right.

Devo out for a 2nd inning of work.
Machado leads it off and slaps a shallow liner to center, Springer coming on, dives and makes a GREAT PLAY just off the ground! 1 out. Devo approves, gives him an "attababy" after the catch.
Kinsler takes a strike, takes a spinning breaking ball that is a strike but somehow called a ball. ball outside. ball again, come on Devo, don't Musgrove this shit.  Mile high popup to first. Gurriel under it, Altuve comes over and calls and catches it about half a step in front of Yuli, then flips the ball to La Pina. 2 outs.
Avila takes two strikes, both right on the outside black. Ball in the dirt, 1-2. ball 2, just up. Slider on the knees, p-p-p-p-ponche!

Mid 6: Astros lead 1-0

Will Peacock be worked into the rotation? He's not logging many innings in the pen. Been good every opportunity.

George tips his cap.

I especially liked the way he was able to get his wrist behind himself and then tuck his shoulder so that the landing was uneventful.

Bottom 6

Correa leads off, 0-2 with two ground outs. Works the count full (and should've walked, strike 2 was outside), Grounds to 3rd, long throw across gets Correa by a half a step, one out.
Beltran (0-2 as well) up and takes 2 balls, fouls off a pitch 2-1, chops one right at Machado, the only guy on the left side of the infield, easy out. Carlos now 0-11 against Whatshisnuts.
Gattis up. Announcers making bullshit excuses about how terrible the Astros looked against Cleveland (they got spanked by Cincy 5-1 today. Gattis rolls over on a grounder to Machado, out by half a step at first.

Offense looking putrid again today.

End 6 1-0 Astros

Marwin leads it off and leads the team in home runs, which should embarrass about 10 people in the lineup.  Marwin drag bunts one right up the line, Miggy playing back and can't make a play, easy single to lead it off. I love it! That's some salty veteran shit.
Yuli squares to bunt and misses a fastball, strike 1, hits a fading liner to right that drops in for a single, runners on 1st and 2nd, no outs. Marwin had no chance to move to 2nd because he had to wait a second to make sure it was going to fall.
Bregman up, PLEASE be bunting. Because this is double play/Astros baseball city. Not squaring, takes a fat fastball for strike one. Will Harris tuning it up in the bully. Ball 1. Tigers have two guys up in the pen, a lefty and a righty. Breggers fouls one straight back, 1-2. Setting himself up perfectly for the rollover double play. 50 footer, bounces around the grass in front of the plate, 2-2. Fucking terrible check swing on a pitch a foot outside, Bregman out without an appeal. What a shit at bat. 1 out.
Springer up with runners on 1st and 2nd, 1 out. Strike one on the outside corner. Astros have EIGHT fucking hits in 6 1/3 innings and one run. That is putrid. Ball 1, outside. Fouled straight back, Springer got a meatball and couldn't put it in play (AGAIN), 1-2. Fullmer at 102 pitches. WAY outside, ball 2. Springer a mile behind an outside fastball, punch out. Fucking shitty. 2 outs. I hate listening to the nonsense excuses the TV guys make for bad at bats.
Reddick takes ball one low. Smacks on to right, but 20 feet foul. He just missed it, 1-1. Woos raining down, ball outside, 2-1. Fouls off ball 3, 2-2. Flares one to shallow left, Machado easily makes the catch. Fucking dogshit at bats from Bregman and Springer doom the Good Guys to another shit inning with runners on.

End 7, 1-0 Astros.

According to Gameday, both Altuve and Correa took strike three calls that were belt high, right down the center of the plate.

That's pretty accurate. Correa's may have been on the outside of the plate.

The "Can you hear me now?" fuckstick is hawking Sprint IPhones.
Harris in to pitch against Castellanos.  Quickly ahead 1-2.  Down swinging for out number 1.
Defensive changes (that happened to start the inning.
Marwin to first.
Springer to right.
Reddick to left.
Marisnik to center ( replacing Yuli in the line up).
Collins up with nobody on and one out. Quickly down 1-2. Mike Stanton just said you can't have good pitching without good defense. That is fucking nonsense. Punches out Collins. 2 outs, nobody on.
Mahtook takes ball one. This clown's first name is actually Mikie. Good lord. Ball 2. Slashes a ball in the right center gap, Marisnik makes it look so easy, cruises in and makes the catch.

Mid 8, 1-0 Astros.

Bottom 8
Altuve leading it off,  facing Shane Greene. He's been pretty dirty so far this year, 20 innings 1.35 ERA. Whoever is calling balls and strikes tonight is having a rough game. Altuve down 0-2, fouls off the next one. Giles tuning it up in the bully. Altuve takes a spinning slider RIGHT DOWN THE FUCKING MIDDLE for strike 3. For fuck's sake, what are you waiting for? 1 out.
Correa takes ball one, swings through an inside fastball, takes a spinner right down the middle, strike 2. And predictably takes strike three on the outside corner. Two absolute shit at bats by two of the "best hitters" on this team. SWING. THE. FUCKING. BATS.
Beltran (0-3) HAMMERS a ball to right center that somehow hit the wall about 3 times in a row one some crazy bounces. Beltran cruises in to 2nd with a double, 2 outs.
Gattis up with a runner on 2nd and 2 outs. Ball one outside.  Ball two WAY outside. Fouled straight back, strike 1. Fouled another one off, 2-2. Ball 3, outside.  Smash foul.  Ball 4, low!
1st and 2nd, 2 outs. Up comes Marwin.
Feliz and Giles warming up in the pen.
Ball one, low. Ball 2, low. 2 breaking balls in a row. ANOTHER slider on/maybe just inside the inside corner, 2-1. Swings at a pitch that bounced inside. Greene missed his location by 5 feet on that one. 2-2. Fouled back, another slider. Nothing but breakers so far. Low and in, 3-2. Runners will be moving here. Another slider, Marwin takes it on the outside corner, strike 3. Ugh.

End 8 1-0 Astros. I've got a bad feeling about this.

Well, this is exactly why you pay Giles...time to earn that cabbage.

Can?  Yes. Will?  TBD.

Some time next month they'll probably drop 40 runs in a 3 game series on some poor fools... and at the end of the year they be in the top half, if not the top quarter, of the league in runs scored. But it looks like they're going to be doing the same thing they did last year... checking out for weeks at a time between the big outbursts.  Terrible approach, terrible AB's, especially in important situations and way too many outs on the bases.

I know there's concern about the rotation, and there's good reason for that, but it may be this offense that kills us in the end.

Giles on to close it out.
Justin Upton PHing. Takes ball one. Takes strike one. Swings through a high one, strike 2. Springer-esque slider WAY low and out, Upton chases. 1 out.
Kinsler grounds 6-3, 2 outs on a nice slidepiece.
Avila up as the last hope for the Tigres. Offers at a nasty slider, 0-1. Ball 1, up.  Fouls off strike 2. Slider JUST under the knees, 2-2. Great pitch on 1-2. Missed by maybe half an inch. HIGH HEAT SWING AND A MISS, ASTROS WIN! FUCK YEAH, GILES!

Wow.  Gameday has ball two there to Avila looking pretty fucking good.

It was real good. It probably wasn't a strike (just below the zone), but I'm amazed that Avila took it.

Neither was a strike, but no idea how he laid off either of them.

And as we all expected, Peacock's start results in a combined one-hitter.

So does Peacock take Fiers or Musgrove's spot when Keuchel comes back, or am I being overly optimistic by one start?

My favorite baseball final score.

Mine too, especially on the winning end.  This win was huge in a lot of ways.  They needed a win, any win, to get back on track, and winning a close one, where your closer comes in and does exactly what he's supposed to do with no drama is good for the soul.

You're probably being unrealistic, but you're not wrong in your evaluation.  I really don't know why Fiers is starting ahead of Peacock at this point.

I really don't know why Fiers is starting ahead of Peacock at this point.

Not even the most cautious manager can ignore what Peacock did last night.  I'll be very surprised if he doesn't get another start this weekend, even if Keuchel returns.  And if he has another outing that is clearly superior to what Fiers and Musgrove are currently bringing, he gets to stay in the rotation.  If that happens, I'm not entirely sure Fiers is the guy that gets  bumped.
