One of my favorite baseball quotations came at the end of the, I can't remember, 2009 or '10 season or something, when the Mets had had a massive division lead all year only to blow it at the end and miss out entirely on the playoffs. A fan filing out of the stadium after the final catastrophe was quoted in the Times as saying, "It makes you feel stupid for being happy all year."
I'm trying not to get too far away from that memory right now.
