It seems we need this A's pitcher to have a poor to quite poor performance this evening.

I'd be all for changing the rules to say that a runner on 1st scored on a rulebook double with 2 outs. Seems like the Astros get screwed that way several times a year.

Of course, I'm sure I'm conveniently forgetting the several times a year that they benefit from the status quo.

Gattis doubles to LF
Bregman singles, Gattis to third.
Aoki works the count full, Cotton is at 60 pitches, throws to first several times, Aoki with another foul, then another. Then looks at the 8th pitch of the at bat for strike three, meanwhile Bregman is out trying to take second.
Springer hits a grounder deep to short and beats out the throw for a two-out RBI single to tie the game at 4.
Reddick get a pass to first after Vogt sticks his glove in the way of Reddick's bat and the glove get knocked off his hand.
Altuve, batting with runners on first and second, flies out to RF.

End of 4, Astros 4, A's 4

Beautiful hitting by Yuli. He drove that low and away pitch off the right center wall

Gurriel doubles off the fence of the RCF bullpen. Of course, since it's Beltran on base, that means we now have runners on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out.

Jed Lowrie with the world's worst error allows Beltran to reach 1st on a routine ground ball.

Gattis! Singles through the left side to give the Astros the lead 5-4. Still runners on 1st and 3rd with one out.

Yeah, might be time for a shave.

Aoki strikes out swinging to end the inning. That's two strikeouts for Aoki tonight, which seems pretty unusual.

Morton has done a much better job of keeping the ball down in the zone in the last few innings, and it's paying dividends.

Morton with a 1-2-3 7th, striking out two more and setting a personal best for strikeouts (12?). We head to the bottom of the 7th with the Astros leading 6-4. At this point, you kind of have to think that Morton might come back out for the 8th.

Wow, Hakeem got 60% of the vote for "most iconic #34"? I'm surprised it was that lopsided.

Gregerson needs to bear down here.

And now he needs to buy a beer or six for Reddick, who makes a great catch in RF to save the inning!!!

I don't remember see them recorded in box scores as DP's so I would go with no.  But yeah, we need a more authoritative opinion.

Actually, a strike out/throw out *is* considered a double play. A double play is credited any time there ar two putouts on a single pitch. Each player who gets a putout or assist on either out gets credit for the DP. So on a strike out/throw out, the catcher gets credit for the putout on the strikeout and the assist on the caught stealing. .
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

Yep, after a closer look, the second part is recorded in the DP section on the boxscore.   I think the fact that the strikeout is not listed there made me jump the wrong way.
