Appeared that McCullers was having a bit of tantrum in the dugout hope he gets it together before he gets back out to the hill.

Bregman misses a hanger, flies out to LF. Altuve chops to SS to end the inning.

I'm not sure what his problem was. He was throwing hittable pitches in the zone, and they were hitting them. It's not like the umpire or the defense fucked him over.

THAT'S taking the extra base.  Too bad it didn't lead to anything.

Probably pissed that the shift cost him three runs, a chance to go deep, and possibly the game.

He has two outs (plus the squeeze) in the last 10 batters.  Sure, it's the shift.

He gets the routine double play on Vogt, like he should have, and that inning plays out a whole lot differently.  But I'm just bitter.

Sure, but in the first inning he got an out on a screaming line drive that was caught only because Altuve was shifted way over. Who knows how that inning plays out if that's a hit?

That was worse than the foul ball against the Indians last year that cost two runs.

On an unrelated note, how unlucky is it that the Rockets have the season they have only to get matched up with OKC in the first round?

If Westbrook doesn't go 50/10/10 in every game, they'll be fine.

The crazy thing is, that's a big if.

How is that unlucky?  They've owned the Thunder this year.

As crazy as that is.  You can nitpick every spike popping off the bag, but you can't correct obviously blown foul ball calls.

B4: F7, K swinging, F7 for a nice easy inning.

Manaea with another 1-2-3, and he has a NO HITTER THROUGH FIVE INNINGS.

Here are the categories of reviewable calls from http://m.mlb.com/official_rules/replay_review:

A. Potential Home Run Calls.
B. Non-Home Run Boundary Calls.
C. Specified Fair/Foul Ball Calls.
D. Force/Tag Play Calls.
E. Catch Plays In The Outfield.
F. Base Running.
G. Hit By Pitch.
H. Collisions At Home Plate.
I. Tag-Ups.
J. Placement of Runners.
K. Interference for the Purpose of Breaking Up a Double Play.

D, H and K are why I've come to hate replay.  The intent is to be able to correct the obviously incorrect calls.  But it's not used that way.  It's now just a means to try to judge a runner's intent, or to nit pick obviously safe runners, while ignoring many of the easily identifiable mistakes that affect the game.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

OK, but I think they are just about every call is a judgement really and if the purpose of replays is to avoid the howler decisions they haven't got it right yet, but I think this discussion has been had already.

That's all for LMJ...four innings, five runs, all of them earned.

Correction:  4.1 innings.  Still not good.

Not really surprised with McCullers' inability to maintain his composure in the face of adversity. His mental approach needs some maturing.

It really does. I'm kind of watching with one eye while doing some other things, and it seemed surprising when that first homer just made it 4-0.

E6 and E8 on the same play, and it's 5-2, runners at the corner.

And Manea leaves with a no-hitter

Yes.  Several horrible calls against the Astros that inning.  It's a no hitter in the 6th...the strike zone is huge from here on out.

With the tying run at 3B, Correa sees six pitches, none of them within a foot of the plate....and punches out at ball 7 in the dirt.

I'm really digging Aoki...he's a solid fundamental ballplayer.
He reminded me of his countryman Ichiro on his last hit.

If we can call baserunners out for popping off the bag for a nanosecond on a slide, surely we can do away with the automatic strike on a 3-0 count.

Looks like Fiers will run for Correa, which means he'll have to stay in the game in the bottom of the 9th.

Marwin will have to play SS, which means Aoki, Springer or Marisnick will have to play 1B, and Fiers in the outfield.

Other option is to put Keuchel in on defense somewhere.

Bregman to SS, Marwin to 3b, Fiers to 1b. (My prediction - still hitting, McCann makes it 9-6 with a single)

It's like playing the Dodgers a few years ago when they had a pitcher who literally had no idea where his pitches were going.

10-6...headed to the bottom of the 9th.

This will be interested.  I'd put Keuchel somewhere...he's your best fielding pitcher.

Not unusual.  Lots of big leaguers were star players, both pitching and in the field in HS.

I thought Reddick was already out as the DH.  I guess not.  Bregman to SS, Marwin to 3B and Reddick the DH comes in to play 1B.

That's my guess.  If he goes on the DL, I'm not sure who'll take his place, but I'd guess another infielder?

Kemp is my guess.

ETA: Although he's not really a SS/3B type, so maybe that's not a very good guess.

If you want to move Gurriel to 3B for the duration of the DL stint, I suppose you could even bring up one of the 1B guys like White or Reed.

I had the game going on my phone tonight while navigating various events with family and friends and was sneaking peaks whenever possible. I simply turned it off when I saw Correa head to the dugout with his hand on the trainers shoulder. Made me sick.

This is good news.
