2017 HOF Class
« on: October 03, 2016, 07:45:09 pm »
The "Today's Game Era (1988-2016)" ballot* was released today with the following 10 names:

  • Harold Baines
  • Albert Belle
  • Will Clark
  • Orel Hershiser
  • Mark McGwire
  • Davey Johnson
  • Lou Piniella
  • John Schuerholz
  • George Steinbrenner
  • Bud Selig

Only worthy name in my view is Schuerholz.

*Not to be confused with the "Modern Baseball Era (1970-1987)" ballot, the "Golden Days Era (1950-1969)" ballot, or the "Early Baseball Era (1871-1949)" ballot. Voting for each era is on the following schedule:

Today's Game – 2016, 2018, 2021, 2023
Modern Baseball – 2017, 2019, 2022, 2024
Golden Days – 2020, 2025
Early Baseball – 2020, 2030

I'm surprised at how little support Steinbrenner has had.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

Confused pandering asshat of a Boston writer radio talk show host who isn't voting for Bagwell because...ROIDZ!!!...but is voting for Manny Ramirez. That whole HOF voter purge didn't go nearly deep enough, did it?

That guy is truly too stupid to breath. He's stealing oxygen. If that guy is allowed to vote, there  are literally no qualifications to vote for HOF.

This is a weird situation. I'm sitting here hoping you're talking about Steinbrenner being elected to the HoF, because if not him, that means Selig, which would just be... grotesque. And fucked up.

I mean, the players broke the rules.  Not like the owners who engaged in collusion on three separate occasions.

Personally, I hope that Selig is unable to fly out of Milwaukee due to some natural disaster, and the HOF tells him he will not be inducted if he can't make it.

Steroid Era
All-Star game
Excessive inter-league play
Brewer favoritism/COI
General cluelessness

Pretty sure fans all around baseball hate him. The owners sure love him though.

Just tell him to go to Canton instead. He can even call it a home ceremony.

With approx. 17% of the vote in, Bagwell currently at 90.5%. Last year at roughly the same vote level, Bagwell was at just 82.9%.

(All per Mr. Thibodaux and his indispensable vote tracker)

I figured out there's a =/- 7% difference between the posted ballots and the final ballot totals.

The problem with Bagwell is that the private votes killed him last year.  Whereas Bonds & Clemens saw a pretty even split (-3.9% and -2.0%, respectively), Jeff's percentage on private ballots was 14.3% lower than public ballots (-12.6% in 2015).  If all of his votes from last year hold over, he'll need to pick up 12 additional votes to get in.  He's gained 4 new votes, so it's entirely possible that he reaches that threshold, but it's still in breath-holding mode at this point.

With 12 returning voters having now flipped their vote to yes and the 11 new voters all saying aye, Baggy's vote total has now increased to 93.8% with 33.6% of the estimated vote in. He was running at just 82.1% at the same time last year.

We need to subtract one from the flipped as one of Baggy's voters from last year said he never received his ballot.

Dallas News has three voters; Tim Cowlishaw, Rick Gosselin and Evan Grant. All three voted for Bagwell, Bonds, Clemens, Edgar Martinez, Raines and  Pudge. Cowlishaw did not vote for Hoffman or Mussina. Gosselin took a pass on Guerrero while Grant abstained from voting for Schilling. Only Gosselin voted for Lee Smith and only Cowlishaw for Kent.

Woohoo!!!

Bagwell, Raines, Rodriguez all get in.

Bagwell finished at 86.2%, just ahead of Raines at 86.0%. Ivan finished at 76.0%.

2016 vs 2017 vote totals for some other former Astros: Jeff Kent (16.6% vs 16.7%), Billy Wagner (10.5% vs 10.2%), Roger Clemens (45.2% to 54.1%) and Curt Schilling (52.3% vs 45%).

After Melvin's tracking I figured it was going to happen but beyond excited for Bagwell.  I was watching some videos and reading some stuff and it just rather pissed me off how it took those stupid voters 7 years to get it right.  Seriously, if I was that bad at my job I should be fired.

Here's to Bagwell finally getting what he deserves!!!

It really blows my mind. How could frank Thomas be a no doubter and baggy not get in on the same ballet? Why did pudge get in on his first try? There's more ped evidence against him then baggy ever has. People upset about vlad not getting, why are we so sure he didn't use peds?

The whole thing is just a bunch of BS.
