Lousy job by Springer there, not that it would have prevented the run scoring from third.

Gotta swing at it first.  He was waiting for that slider in the dirt.

Buss caught stealing on a pitch out that Perez swings at

Had to finish my Whataburger.  I lost power here at the ranch about 4:00, and couldn't cook supper, so I had to go to town.  Now I've finished.  And I have power back.

If they want to actually make the playoffs then scoring 1 run every 15 innings against the fucking Angels isn't gunna cut it. Pitching isn't the issue right now.

I had a Cuban sandwich not too long ago that was MMP level terrible. I can't for the life of me remember where it was. It had to have been somewhere that I had some reason to think they might make an acceptable sandwich. I don't even remember what country it was.

I'll tell you one place you can't find a decent Cuban sandwich and that's Cuba.

I'll tell you one place you can't find a decent Cuban sandwich and that's Cuba.

Never been to Cuba, so I can't comment on the quality of the average mixto there.  But it's all about the bread.  If you don't start with decent Cuban bread, you're sandwich is doomed to suck.

In Panama the bread you want is pretty ubiquitous. They call it pan flauta. And they have a pressed sandwich they call a prensao, which is usually ham and cheese, but they don't really understand the delicate mix of key ingredients that is necessary for a good Cuban sandwich.

This is true of most sandwiches. People really neglect good bread in their sandwich building.

Gurriel chops a roller to 3B, Escobar barehands it and throws it into the camera well...scored a single and advancing to 2B on a TE5
Altuve grounds out 6-3
Correa walks
Gattis...3-0...four pitch walk...Gurriel to 3B, Correa to 2B

That's it for Meyer, Guerra in

Marwin...full count...singles up the middle, Gurriel scores, Correa scores, Gattis to 2B
White, pinch hitting for Kemp...3-1...singles to CF, Gattis scores, Marwin to 2B
Marisnick pinch running for White
Castro grounds to 1B, Cron knocks it down, but throws it back towards the plate...Marwin scores, Marisnick to 3B...scored a single and a TE3

Guerra out...Morin in...

First pitch from Morin goes off of Perez's glove for a passed ball, Marisnick scores, Castro to 2B
Hernandez pops out F2 in foul ground
Springer flies out F8

But the Astros bat around...lead 6-3

How similar are the breads, or how similar are they in importance to their respective sandwiches?

That's a good question. I think that in general the telera roll is likely to be a little chewier, a little denser and a little more flavorful. It gets grilled, too, of course, and the presence of refried beans really changes the personality of the bread for me. The pan cubano will be very airy despite its solid crust, very little detectable yeast.

What do you think?

The bread in Cuba that they use for sandwiches is a frightful thing. It's very thick and crumbly almost like cornbread. Of course the sandwich itself is about twelve cents so it doesn't hurt very much to experimentate.

Not much.  Cuban bread has a hard flaky crust and a soft, slightly chewy inside.  It's made with lard and baked in a long thin roll, about three feet long, with a palmetto frond laid across the top.

A poboy is sort of like a sub. The ones I ate as a boy from Antone's on South Main were cold cuts and cheese. The closer you get to pravatalandia the more likely you are to see fried seafood of one kind or another.

Indeed they do, and pickled vegetables. I am well aware that some people despise mayonnaise but I don't understand it. Maybe it's something genetic like cilantro hatred.

I have a mayohating friend who once went on an epic rant about talking to a woman who had a dab of mayonnaise on her lip. Every time I run into him I think, Damn, I wish I had some time to prepare.

The poboys served in Houston generally have cold cuts. The ones you're likely to find in New Orleans are likely to have fried seafood - catfish, oysters, maybe shrimp.

I'm just glad you didn't ask about a muffaletta.

Roger, that I understand.  It also aligns to my somewhat limited poboy experience.  Had some nice catfish and shrimp poboys in Louisiana.  I had to Google  muffaletta, but I reckon I would eat the hell out of them... it is had to beat Italian breads.

Astros now down 7-6, Angels still batting...Orioles came back and won in 12...barring a 9th inning rally, stick a fork in this season.

I am really tired of Giles' ability to fuck things up.

When he fucks things up he doesn't fuck around.

With a slight pinch of Lima.

He's the right handed version of Wagner.  Big fastball, good slider, too many meatballs.

Giles leaves with the bases loaded and one out, having given up three runs on three walks and three hits, including a home run.

Wagner was almost always around the plate. Giles is all over the place. When Giles has his good slider he is almost untouchable. Wagner's slider was not nearly as deadly as Giles' can be. Sadly at this point Giles is very, very inconsistent.

Last year I think it was 15 games above .500. This year it seems to be 10 above. Regardless as soon as they get close to breaking through that line they seem to pull that ballsack down and place it right in stride.

There's enough game left. Keep it at 1 run Felix.

T9:

Giles in to try to close it out...

Pennington singles to RF
Escobar homers to LF on a 1-2 hanging slider right down the center of the plate, Pennington scores
Calhoun flies out to shallow CF
Trout...3-0...walks on four pitches
Trout takes 2B without a throw because Giles doesn't pay any attention whatsoever
Pujols will now be intentionally walked
Cron with a broken bat flair single to CF on a 1-2 pitch, Trout scores, Pujols to 2B
Wild pitch...Pujols to 3B, Cron to 2B...infield has to come in now
Simmons...full count...walks

That's it for Giles...Feliz in

Buss...full count...strikes out swinging
Ortega, pinch hitting for Graterol...3-0...3-1...3-2...bloops a double just over 2B, Correa dives, and it pops out of his glove as he hits the ground...Pujols scores, Cron scores, Simmons scores.

Correa injured diving for the ball, Marwin moves to SS, and Reed in to play 1B

Pennington strikes out swinging

But the Halos not only take the lead, but blow the game open...10-6 Angels

I've never felt more "numb" after a game than that loss in Pittsburgh. Tonight's eventual loss is catastrophic but..... They're still in it. We still have some good baseball to watch.

If this means we are out of it, so be it...I enjoyed the ride... This game beats the fuck out of every other game going. I am a member of ,"Da Who Dat Nation"; I have loved my Saints almost as long as I have loved the Astros. But there is no doubt what game is superior. Even being in the Junior Circuit these last few years has been tolerable.

As far as the NFL product, fuck them if they can't police thier league. And Fuck these guys who won't stand to honor America, and fuck the league that does not discipline them.

BBG's...have mercy and let us live, so that we can tell all those who shake their heads at the baseball loyalty we profess...let us be able to go tell them to
go fuck themselves and fuck the lame NFL product they blindly suck up to.

Good night.

I don't care what someone does during the National Anthem but it is the employers right to expect employees to behave at the workplace in accordance with their code of business conduct. To me, way to much attention is being given to a work place incident involving a symbolic gesture. Of course short sighted reactionaries on both sides will extrapolate and infer much greater meaning and purpose behind the symbolism. To kneel or not to kneel, it only makes a difference if you give a shit in the first place. To me, the issue is not the behavior, the issue is how one interprets the behavior. People get so bent over intangible crap.

That being said, the police sure seem to needlessly kill a lot of people.

Remember folks, nothing says "freedom" like mandatory participation in rituals of national pride!

North Korea is a hell of a patriotic place.

The players are unionized, obviously, so arbitrary workplace regulations would be just about impossible to implement. Maybe the next CBA will include a provsion regarding the mandatory elbow angle to be employed during hand over heart events.

It would be fine with me if they just did away with the Anthem altogether but I suppose if I were on the downside of fame and needed a platform to draw attention to myself in the name of justice, I'd feel differently.
