Fister sets them down 1-2-3 in the first with a couple of flyouts and something else I missed when the wife beckoned.

Paxton puts the Astros down 1-2-3 in the second. Gomez hit the ball hard but lined out to 3rd. I wish the Astros had a southpaw SP that threw like Paxton. I did a Similarity Search for him and the #1 comp was JA Happ.

Marisnick nearly decaps Paxton with a line single up the middle. One on, no outs, Castro up.

Line drive single by Castro to LF puts runners first and second. Springer hits first pitch to SS who bobbles a DP chance but gets the force at 2b. Runners on the corners with one down.

Inning fizzles with a 5-4-3 DP hit into by Marwin.  Where is everybody? It's not football season yet.

Late game so I am tea-totaling or I would not make it.

3 up 3 down for Fister as he gives up a  2-out 2b to Marte who is out trying to stretch it to 3rd. Called out on the replay after appearing to be safe. Valbuena placed the tag right on his coconut as he slid in. Marte also seemed to be shaken a bit. Gomez made the nice throw.

Very well done, I thought the runner was safe after every replay, until the slow motion view.

Gomez did not take the most efficient route to that ball that Marte hit. Marisnick catches it.

Altuve and Correa on first and second with two line singles. Gomez bounces in DP with Altuve advancing to 3rd.

Val flies out...promising inning derailed by DP.

Foxing the runner into trying for third?

Jake catches Fly ball near foul line and then holds finger up saying he's number 1. Or, maybe he wants Gomez to know there is one out.

Scoring question for the wizards here about a situation that came up in my friend's son's game this afternoon. Situation: runners on 1st and 3rd, less than 2 outs. Batter hits a pop-up to 2nd, but the 2B drops it. He recovers and forces the runner at 2nd, with the batter replacing him at 1st and the runner on 3rd staying put. How do you score that? I called it a fielder's choice and no error, but the official scorer charged an error to the 2B. How would you score it?

I'm not sure you can have an error without a runner reaching or, in this case, advancing. But I really don't know.

Yeah, it seems to me that there has to be some sort of harm: extra out, extra base, extra run, something. The net effect after this play was no different than if he had caught the pop-up.

Man, I wish he could do that with some consistency. I'd love to see Jake be the guy in CF next year. Almost seems like there is enough offense to support his defense anyway.

No error should be charged here. The rule book, at least the professional one, specifically addresses this situation and states that no error is charged for a dropped ball if the fielder recovers in time to get a force out.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

Thanks.

Still trying to fathom where Gurriel fits

If you thought the shift pissed people off before, wait until we play three 3b and a 2b.

I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

Only 86% route efficiency according to the statcast or whatever Darren Willman uses

Daren now basically runs Statcast for MLBAM.
