Stat of the day

Courtesy Pinwheel on Twitter:

Since May 1, the Astros are 21-5 in games started by McHugh, Fister, or McCullers.
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

With Fister, that doesn't surprise me. The other two, I can only conclude, have been lucky enough to pitch on the days when the offense scores. I do, of course, have optimism that McHugh and especially McCullers can pick things up and be solid #2 type pitchers the rest of the season.

I don't know. Both McHugh and McCullers do seem to spend a bit of time walking a knife's edge with baserunners, but they've pretty much managed to keep the scoring down pretty well. Since 4/27, McHugh has allowed a max of 4 runs and has an ERA of 4.20, and McCullers has allowed a max of 5 runs (only once, in his first start on 5/13) and has an ERA of 3.91. Those aren't Cy Young numbers, but they're not the numbers of guys who need 8 runs to win, either.
