A few roster notes (other than 2016 draftees and players who had previously made 2016 debuts):
RHP Enrique Chavez--signed out of Mexico in 2014, he pitched primarily in the GCL last season where he was a tandem starter.
RHP Dylan James--NDFA out of West Texas A&M in 2014 who saw (limited) action in the GCL and at Greeneville last year.
RHP Hector Perez--20-year old out of the DR who was so effective in his debut in the DSL last summer the Astros moved him up to the GCL mid-season.
RHP Erasmo Pinales--another Dominican pitcher, he spent 2 years in the DSL before a successful stateside debut at Greeneville last year (33 Ks and 10 Ws in 32.2 IP) as part of the tandem.
RHP Carlos Sierra--21-year old Cuban making his pro debut. Signed last December.
LHP Ben Smith--drafted in the 17th round back in 2014 out of Coastal Carolina, Smith will be making his professional debut. Recovery from TJS followed by treatment for cancer delayed the start of his career. Good luck to him.
RHP Josue Uribe--not the most successful of seasons statistically in the DSL last year, still Astros brass thought enough of the 21-year old Dominican to bring him stateside for a handful of appearances in late August in the GCL.
LHP Framber Valdez--22-year old out of the DR making US debut after struggling with control in the DSL last year.
C Kevin Martir-2015 draftee out of Maryland (18th round) who was used at Greeneville last season where he hit just .218/.355/.234.
INF/OF Marcos Almonte--signed to a modest bonus several years ago, spent most of last year in the DSL before moving up to the GCL and hitting .299/.321/.364 in 19 games. 20 years old.
2B Kolbey Carpenter--33rd rounder last year out of the U of Oklahoma, he's repeating the NY-Penn.
3B Randy Cesar--signed for $100K 5 years ago, the 21-year old hit .236/.327/.346 for the G-stros last year.
OF Brauly Mejia--21-year old from the DR put up a .283/.335/.428 slash line in the Appy in 2015. Signed 4 years ago.
OF Luis Payano--hit .243/.307/.379 in 36 games as a 19-year old for Greeneville last year.
Undoubtedly some of these guys will get bumped down a level or two as more 2016 draftees sign and get assigned to the V-Cats.
