Didn't see the game but did see this in the game report of the Rangers/Mariners tilt:

"The emotions rose quickly. Wilhelmsen, who spent the last five years pitching for Seattle, allowed a 420- foot homer to Robinson Cano on his first pitch of the season. He allowed back-to-back doubles to Nelson Cruz and Kyle Seager and then a two-run homer to Seth Smith. It all took a span of 10 pitches. After pitching coach Doug Brocail came to the mound, Wilhelmsen wound up and hit catcher Chris Iannetta in the left thigh. It was the fifth hit batter between the teams in two games."

Fun times ahead, folks.

It is 100 percent worth it to find this highlight on MLB.com if you want to hear Jeff Bannister very clearly and concisely say "FUCK YOU!" at Scott Servias. I mean, a deaf person can pick it up easily. It's glorious.

Cano homers for the 3rd game in a row in today's matinee vs the Rangers.

What's the over/under on the number of games before Brocail is in the middle of a scrum in a bench-clearing brawl?

ETA:

Ha! Cano later hits his 4th longball as Shawn Tolleson melted down in the 9th and the Mariners came back for the win. Rangers pen has allowed 11 runs after the 7th inning over the 1st 3 games.

So with Wilson out and Jered Weaver struggling to break 80 mph, the Angels rotation took a further hit today when Andrew Heaney was put on the DL with a forearm strain. Nick Tropeano apparently will be recalled from SLC to take his place.

Injury bug, the 2016 version:

With Robinson Chirinos (out 10-12 weeks w/a fractured right forearm) and Shin-Soo Choo (out 4-6 weeks w/strained calf) the latest, the Rangers now have seven guys already on the DL.

(FWIW, one of their top prospects 20-year old Nomar Mazara came up Sunday to replace Choo and went 3-4 with a homer in his MLB debut)

Whenever I see a consistent rash of injuries plaguing an org like this over an extended period of time, I always wonder if it is the result of a poor conditioning and/or athletic training program.  Or, at least, a contributing factor.
Another trenchant comment by a jealous lesser intellect.

Yaaaaaaaay, 3rd place!!!!!!

(Okay, tied for 3rd).

A special shoutout for a major assist from the Angels and A's starting staffs. Particularly the latter:

"Over the past 18 games, Oakland starters have allowed 80 earned runs in 85 2/3 innings. Overall, A’s starters are 9-18 with a 5.47 ERA, the most losses and the highest ERA in the American League."

At least the Angels can point to injuries.

We're ignoring the true idiot in this fight.

Justin Smoak hit the ground ball that resulted in Bautista's force out at second.  Odor's attempted decapitation of Bautista resulted in a wild throw that went to the railing.  The Rangers, being the dumbasses they are, immediately ran to the fight and abandoned the ball.

So Smoak, with his team trailing by one run in the eighth inning, was presented with a live, loose ball, and three uncovered bases in front of him.  So what did he do?

He ran into the fight as well, thus getting himself called out for leaving the base path.

My understanding was that Smoak was called out for Batista's bad slide.  He slid late into the base which violated the new slide rule.  I think Odor's reaction wasn't about the slide.  It has been well-documented Odor slides dirty with the best of them.  It was the fact that Odor didn't get to throw the pitch that hit Batista.  It was still about the bat flip.

What team throws a purpose pitch with a one run lead to put the tying run on base?  That is what it appears and is how the ump reacted giving the warning right away.
Always ready to go to a game.

I don't give Odor that much credit to not hold himself to a double-standard.  Very well could have been about the bat flip, but I doubt he saw the slide as "just part of the game".

Could be.  When I looked at Gameday during the game, it showed "Smoak out advancing on throw", but now shows "Smoak grounds into double play".

So did the Rangers really wait until the last inning of the last game of the year they play against Toronto to retaliate for the bat flip in the playoffs last year?   If so that is some next level chickenshit.

It is truly bush league.  If they were going to retaliate for the bat flip, they should have thrown at him the first time up this year.

You'd hope, but the league are pussies and the union is strong.  I expect Odor to get four games, reduced to two on appeal.  Bautista will get two, reduced to one.

I heard they're considering including a boxing setup.

That's quite the confidence in Odor they're showing.

So if the Rangers apparently already need a new park...it surely it bodes well for the future of ours that their plan seems to be to just copy MMP.

Based on that last rendering, I think $700M is going toward installing rolling hills in DFW.

I think all stadiums should have retractable roofs. Can't believe the Yankees spent a billion and didn't get a roof.

Some places just shouldn't do that.

A's send Sonny Gray to DL. Oakland now has 13 players on the injured list.

And yet Houston, relatively healthy, trails them in the standings.

This would be a perfect time to watch Colby Lewis against the A's. 8th inning.

Ryan Rua just made the requisite great defensive play to end the 8th.

In another universe, I might like Colby Lewis. One in which he doesn't pitch for the fucking Rangers and routinely dominate the Astros. Alas.

Big blow to #Rangers with RHP Colby Lewis going on DL for minimum 2 months with LAT strain, joining fellow starters Yu Darvish,Derek Holland

I guess they'll need a AAA 3B once they trade Gallo for a pitcher.

And Prince Fielder is having neck surgery again, out of the year.  Whoever replaces him will be an upgrade.  Fielder is 32 now and is under contract through 2020 and is owed 96 million total.
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

And then DFA'd today to make room for Harrell and his friend.
