Roof closed for MMPUS ALDS games
« on: October 09, 2015, 02:55:53 pm »
I guess after 35 years in the Dome, Houston feels more comfortable with indoor baseball.  Lots of good memories from roof being closed in 2005, but I prefer baseball outside.

Is there any strategic part of this?  Reason for preference?

Someone didn't watch the '04/05 playoffs and then the '05 WS.
You may ask yourself, "How do I work this?"

Didn't the league force them to have the roof open in the WS?

I thought it was the NLCS, but yes, Bud and his minions forced them to open the roof.

That's too cold to leave the roof open.

Is this a serious question? Were you not posting here in 04-05?

Are you kidding? It gets loud as shit in there.

As has been said here before, Mark and I were at the game before the Kent game in 04. Beltran homered to take the lead in the 8th, and Lidge came on in the 9th. It was so loud, it seemed like everything went totally silent. Mark was trying to tell me something and was screaming in my ear. I could not hear him.

That was the noisiest place I've ever been.  I'm not sure what it does, but it's got to do something.

I refer to it as a basketball arena with twice as many people.

I've never been at Union Station during a playoff game, but I was in the dome Game 6 in 1986.

I was so loud the steel column near my seat was vibrating. The thought that the whole thing might come down went through my mind after Hatcher's homer. Exhilarating!
He breezed him, one more time!

My wife won tickets to the game, thru a Astros Twitter contest, so we are going now.  I can't wait to hear the ROAR of that place today.  That Kent homer was the loudest I have ever heard anything, outside of a shuttle launch.

If anyone is looking for a good pregame spot, we have been going to 1820 (bar next to the Arcade place on Hamilton) all season.  They have a great selection of beer, but all in cans or bottles, no taps.  It doesn't get super crowded in there, the AC is cold and the beer is even colder.

There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.
