Burns and Vogt out of the lineup is a very good thing.

Fiers hit in the right hip by a pretty sharp liner by Lawrie, he recovered and made the out at first.  He is feeling it a bit but looks like he will continue.

I'm hoping that doesn't start bothering him between innings.

I expect he will keep moving and stretching so it doesn't tighten up.

Lead off walk by Fiers doesn't do any damage.

Carter HR was a deep drive and adds to the lead.

Good guys 2-0 after 2.

When's the last time you saw somebody get dinged up sliding into an umpire?

Damn, I must be lagging about 6 or 7 minutes behind...

A's get a hit, but that's all.

Astros get another run on a couple of hits.

Good guys 3-0 after 3.

A little PBP

T4:

Reddick hammers an upper deck home run to RF
Valencia...arguing every pitch as he usually does...crushes a home run out of the stadium to LF
Lawrie strikes out looking
Butler grounds out 5-3
Muncy strikes out swinging

But the As get a pair on back to back monster home runs...Astros lead 3-2
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

So, my family (paternal side) have a family reunion every year around Thanksgiving.  Well, one of my cousins is organizing shirts and decided to go with a baseball theme because my Grandpa was scouted by the Cards.  A few things to know, #1 I probably watch the most baseball of everyone in my family--but a lot of them watch baseball, #2 my Grandpa did play baseball--but he grew up in a farming community (it's not even big enough for a city), #3 quite a few of my cousins played baseball both in high school and in the farming community my family is from.

There is no way in hell I would not have heard about my Grandpa being scouted by the Cards.  No way!!!!  All of my uncles talk baseball with me.  My cousins that played baseball would have known and they don't seem to know.  And the one that does know, didn't play baseball so why would anyone of told him that.

I'm thinking someone lied to him, but damn it would be really cool if he had been.  My grandpa was a tall lean farm boy.  So, maybe someone is keeping really good secrets.

What does being "scouted" mean exactly?

I know with certainty that family history as told from generation to generation is rarely correct and gets somewhat embellished.

The A's are maxing out the number of acrobatic catches they should be making, especially on Correa.

No shit.  He's absolutely scalded two balls and has squat to show for it.

Not sure the story regarding him being scouted because apparently only one has heard it.  I have a feeling the truth will be revealed at the reunion should be fun.

Koscuisko, Texas  It's west of Seguin.  It is close to Panna Maria, Texas which is where the 1st Polish Settlement was/is.  (Eagle Ford area)

And I think that doesn't even include tonight.

Yeah, I'm not really related to them but my Grandpa did go play cards and drink beer there with his buddies.

That is the church my grandparents (both sets), parents, brother, cousins, and lots of others got married.  Just down 1347 is where is my dad grew up.  About 9 miles further down 1347 is where my mom grew up.  Opposite that direction is the cemetery where a lot of my family is buried.  Yep, that is pretty much my family history.

Across the road from Koscuisko hall is a baseball field.

Wait a second...there are multiple families of Pruskis in Koscuisko and they're not related?

Semien flairs one to shallow RF, but that damn shift...no second baseman, it's a single

At the stretch...3-2 Astros

I'm sure we're related but I can't do family history that far back.  I could confuse all of you by sharing more, but there are quite a few Pruskis in the South Texas area.  My dad had 6 brothers.

In fact, there are two Edward Pruski's in San Antonio.  They both have daughters named Leslie.  There is still another Leslie Pruski, but he is a bit older than me.

It started out baseball related.

Neshek in...

Canha lines one to RF on an 0-2 pitch
Reddick pops out F5 in foul territory
Valencia...still bitching about every pitch...hammers another home run to LF on a 1-2 pitch...A's grab the lead
Lawrie grounds out 6-3
Butler singles to LF
Burns singles to RF, Butler to 2B

And that's it for Neshek, who got smacked around, Fields in

Semien strikes out swinging

As lead 4-3

The Rangers could probably lose every non-Astros game left on their schedule and still take the division.

If you think about it, it's absolutely amazing how badly this team is playing.
The Rangers weren't on some crazy hot streak coming into that series... they were struggling, including getting shut out back to back in Seattle.
The Angels were playing badly. The A's have been horrible all year. And all of them have had little problem pushing the Astros around.

Plus, every time you think of hits that haven't fallen or line drives that have been right at people, you have to consider that the last time they won was the result of a ridiculous comeback with two outs and two strikes in the ninth on a series of extremely improbable events. They are about five small miracles away from having dropped seven straight.

They're going to miss the playoffs and it's not even going to be close. They're going to be playing that last series in Arizona Grapefruit League split squad style, with whole lineups of September call-ups.

I won't say that yet. As improbable as the collapse has been, they could still go on another streak and get back into this. But it's hard to see that right now given how they've played.

They were 12-5 in the previous 17 coming into that series.  Everyone wishes they could "struggle" like that.

Only if two out of five is "most", while winning five games during the same stretch.  I'm not sure what point you're trying to make.  If it's that the Rangers hadn't been playing well prior to the last series with the Astros, you're way off base.

Koscuisko, Texas  It's west of Seguin.  It is close to Panna Maria, Texas which is where the 1st Polish Settlement was/is.  (Eagle Ford area)

That's a pretty part of the state. I used to go through there going home to Corpus from Austin when I was in college. Some pretty churches in that area. I would often stop at Barth's in Kenedy for a cup of coffee and piece of pie.
