Fuck these guys
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

T1:

Springer grounds out 6-3
Altuve homers to LF
Correa flies out F8
Lowrie fouls a hard on off his shin, then is hit on the foot on the next pitch.  Painful at bat
Rasmus grounds into RF, shift on so secondbaseman fields it and he's out 4-3

Astros grab a quick 1-0 lead

On the replays it looked like the pitch hit the dirt just before it hit Lowrie's foot. Hopefully that took some of the sting/damage out of it.

The Rangers have Mike Napoli in LF tonight. He has appeared in 1 game, 5 innings, in the OF prior to today. So that's... different. Maybe he plays OF much better than your average fat, old, former catcher/1B type.

He doesn't. He must have a phenomenal history against Kazmir or something.

That's the thing that endeared me to last year's Royals team and so refreshingly different about this Astros team: really good defense (by and large). Marisnick's display in left field the other day was other-worldly.

Valbuena lines a bullet between where the SS and 3B should be, but with the shift on it's right at the only infielder on that side

The nice thing about the infield fly rule is you get the out even if the fielder drops the pop-up.

B2:

Fielder pops up lazily to 3B and Lowrie clanks it.  Ugh
Napoli grounds roller to SS, perfect double play ball...but the shift...you know what happens, Fielder to 2B
Moreland strikes out swinging...should have been the end of the inning
Andrus...full count...pops up...infield fly in effect...F4
Odor lines over Marisnick's head, Fielder scores, Napoli tries his luck...he's out at the plate!  8-6-2

But the Rangers tie it up on an unearned run when Kazmir has to get 5 outs.

1-1

Off the bat, I thought Marisnick would run it down, but he had no chance.  That ball was smoked.

Is it worth pointing out the Shift, in Napoli's case, meant the SS was only slightly more towards 3B than normal? He is a RH batter. He just hit it between the SS and the 2B.

He was over pretty far considering the double play was in order.  For example, if he hits it to Altuve, he can't got to 2B with the ball

Agreed. Frustrating, but different from when they only have one fielder over there and the hitter intetionally takes advantage of what they gave him.

T3:

Marisnick grounds out 5-3
Springer...full count...grounds out 5-3 on a nice play be Beltre and pick.
Altuve reaches on E4
Correa singles up the middle...Hamels deflected it, but it still sneaks through, Altuve to 3B
Lowrie, who's an RBI in the hole...strikes out swinging.

Astros leave a pair

Walk, HBP and a fucked up pickoff attempt has Rangers at 2B and 3B with one out

B3:

JIM-in-ez...full count...lead off walk
Deshields...shift on, three infielders on the left...strikes out swinging
Choo leans into one and it hits him on the arm, Gimenez to 2B
Kazmir throws a pickoff attempt into CF, Gimenez to 3B, Choo to 2B
Beltre pops out F3
Fielder...shift on...pops out F5 as Lowrie squeezes this one

Good work there by Kazmir to end the inning

1-1 after three

Gattis grounds out 6-3

The Rangers have Mike Napoli in LF tonight. He has appeared in 1 game, 5 innings, in the OF prior to today. So that's... different. Maybe he plays OF much better than your average fat, old, former catcher/1B type.

Or maybe not!

Astros just need to pull up their underoos and score some runs.  Hamels has been all over the place no reason they should not have some luck go their way.

Back to PBP

T7:

Springer strikes out swinging
Altuve singles up the middle
Correa...full count...grounds into FC, Altuve out 5-4
Villar...full count...walks, Correa to 2B
Rasmus...full count...smokes one off of Moreland's chest, caroms into RF, Correa scores, Villar to 3B
Gattis swings the first pitch over his head and hits a lazy fly ball to CF

Astros tie it up...3-3 at the stretch

Hard to have any confidence in Gattis right now. Just a string of terrible ABs with the same mistakes made over and over. He's better than this.

B7:

Odor grounds out 6-3
Gimenez grounds out 6-3, on a soft liner that Correa dives to shorthop
Deshields pops up behind the plate, Conger doesn't exactly make much of a play on it, another chance...strikes out swinging

to the 8th...knotted at 3

Choo grounds out 5-3

Perez out, Harris in

Beltre singles to LF
Fielder...full count...homers to CF on a meatball, belt high, right down the center of the plate, Beltre scores
Stubbs strikes out swinging

That's it for Harris, Sipp in

Moreland doubles to RF
Andrus flies out F8

To the 9th...Astros chasing a pair 5-3

Who's on the hill tomorrow?

Why not forfeit the rest of the games and just get some rest before the A's.

I'm hoping for an onset of excessive cockiness by the Rangers.

Because you've only got a 1-game lead for the second Wild Card spot.  Gotta hope for a miracle.

There already is this.  That does not seem to piss of the BBGs or any other G.  I just can't believe they can't seem to beat these assholes.

I'm still waiting for the turning point and starting to realize it will probably never come.
Every couple of weeks they pull off some crazy last-second win and I hope that will finally be the game that gets them to relax and go on a real hot streak. But they always go right back to panic mode. I really thought for a moment that yesterday would be it... that finish was straight out of Hoosiers. But no. They played and acted  tonight like yesterday never happened. Tight and miserable.

I'm starting to worry about next season now. How will this team react if they're in contention this time next year?

Really?  You're worried about them being tight in September 2016?

Like bragging about how good they are defensively?

This season may... may... be a writeoff.
If the worst happens  I just hope there won't be lasting consequences.

I wouldn't say they are in "panic mode."  They just lost another game on the road.  I think they have even bought into the crappy idea that they can't win on the road.  I guess they have heard it enough they believe it.  I'm more pissed that they lost to the Rangers than I am that they only won 2 of 6 between the A's and Angels.

And a shitload can happen between now and next year.

They've done more than hear it, they've lived it.  The idea that they've been terrible on the road is not a made up one.

T9:

Tolleson in...

Correa singles to CF
Villar grounds to 2B, Correa runs straight into the tag and easy double play
Crowd is electric...
Rasmus strikes out swinging

Rangers win 5-3, and they've caught the Astros for the division.
Officially, the Astros still have a 1/2 game lead. Tied in the loss column.

None that I know of. I was responding to Austro.

They let this one get away, but I like our starters the next three games and the core players (Springer, Altuve, Correa) are all hitting, so I'm going to keep watching.

Bummer that Gomez is out when it seemed as though things were starting to click for him at the plate.

Well, quit being wrong.

You've been told repeatedly that the loss column is all that matters.  You insist on spinning it so that you don't feel as bad about them being run down in the standings.  Knock yourself out.  That doesn't make you right

Well, you can argue about controlling one's destiny, or playing catch up, or what can or can't be done but it's all academic. The only thing that determines the outcome its the outcome.
