has become a really valuable player. I'm a little surprised by the power he is showing and his versatility. Glad he is on this team. I was thinking back on some of the really good utility guys Houston has had over the years and I came up with Vizcaino, Spiers, Blum. I'm sure I'm missing some.

Casey Candaele was a versatile player.  Not a great player, but you could plug him in just about anywhere, IF or OF.

On a side note, I've been a huge Marwin fan for a while now.  I guess I've got the same man-crush on him as Knox has on The Great Bill Spiers.

I always liked Bruntlett, though he wasn't the player Spiers, Blum or Viz was.  What to do with Marwin when Lowrie comes back?  He has certainly improved this year.

Or, what to do with Valbuena when Lowrie gets back?

I don't think a lot changes for him.  He continues spot starts and pinch hitting duty.  It's likely Carter and Valbuena see a marked decrease in playing time.

Good pull there...his start on The Double Play with Everett will never be forgotten.  Still hard to believe they turned that as quickly as they did.  I bet Mabry still has nightmares about that play.

The double play he turned to close out Game 4 of the 2005 NLCS was a thing of true beauty.

One of my favorite plays, ever.

I will add Mike Lamb to the list, not as versatile as the others mentioned, but his bat seemed to always be hot, know matter how much playing time he saw.

Marwin is quite lovable. If you ranked the pure super-utility Astros (ie. could play SS, unlike Lamb) on hitting ability and on fielding, he'd probably be near the top on both lists.

I think there should be no question squalls was injured. He has been good since he returned.

I was thinking the same thing. The last couple times out he's been like a different pitcher. The movement on his fastball has been outstanding.

FYI, Spiers is in Cooperstown to celebrate with Biggio.
