If your not gonna hit Marisnick 9 then why not 2? 7 seems a strange play to put him in an AL game.

The problem  is that Grossman also is in the lineup, leading to two nines in the same lineup. Valbuena isn't an ideal two, but that's probably best. I'd go Marwin in the two.

Dosen't make a lot of sense to have Marwin and Grossman hitting behind Marisnick.   If Hinch wants to get him more at bats, move him to either the leadoff or second position.

Late arriving crowd?  I would have thought there would be an attendance bump after that road trip.

Why do you pitch them away if you've got a big shift on? Or is Feldman just  missing?

Ashby was just asking about this.  My thought is, haven't these spray charts (or whatever they're called) been researched while the batters have been pitched to normally?  Why would you change how you pitch to them after the fact?  You might just pitch to their happy zones if you do that.  Thoughts?

They put the shift on a dead-pull hitter, then pitch him away, trying to get the hotter to "roll over" on the pitch (getting the ground ball to the pull-side)

He's kind of the long-standing bar for awful. It's just that this year's team, at least so far, has produced so many fewer awful moments that Ashby stands out more than he used to. Although Castro is trying to help him out tonight.

I don't care how much potential he shows, Chris Carter is fucking mind numbingly terrible at the plate 80+ percent of the time.

Nice D, but Baggy would have let it drop to get the DP.

Single to leadoff for the Ms.

Carter with a fine defensive catch on the bunt attempt

Cano with a DP groundout. Bottom of 10th. Time for a run.

I hope the fans start coming out. These guys deserve it.

How do you pitch him?  It might be easier to just throw him fastballs down the middle.  At least he would never walk.

Tonight is the first night I figured that a change must have crossed Luhnow's mind, but that'd be pretty bold for a hot team.

I'm pretty sure McClendon didn't say "hit the bat with this next pitch."

According to Ashby, McClendon should have just told him to throw a wild pitch so they could then intentionally walk him to load the bases with 1 out.

It never once occurred to Ashby that if that was the case, maybe they should walk Altuve anyway.

Interesting.  So Altuve could have went and stopped at second for the winning hit to count as a double?  Odd

Interesting.  So Altuve could have went and stopped at second for the winning hit to count as a double?  Odd

Why is that odd?  On walk off hits, the batter is entitled credit for as many bases as he would otherwise get, so long as he runs them out. The caveat being he can only get credit for as many bases as the winning run advances. So for example, last night Marwin was in 2B, so Altuve could have been credited with a double had he ran all the way to 2B. However, if Marwin had been on 3B, he could only have been credited with a single. The exception is a home run. On a walk off HR, the batter gets credit for the HR and any runs it drives in count, again provided he touches all the bases.  If he doesn't touch them all, he only gets credit for as many bases as the winning run advancesa.  An infamous example of this is Robin Ventura's would be walk off grand slam, that turned into a single when his teammates mobbed him in between 1b and 2b and didn't let him finish his trot. Instead of a HR and four RBIs, he was awarded a single and one RBI.

They said "he had to stop on second"  It looked like he ran through second, but you really can't tell.  He wisely turned around to brace for the oncoming celebration.  Perhaps he just missed the bag.  video

Actually upon further review, he likely came with in an Altuve short of second.

I was trying to figure this out last night. It looked like he got close to second and looked down at the bag a couple of times but was more preoccupied with his teammates storming out to molest him than he was getting to the bag. I'm sure his agent will have a friendly talk with him.
