Guess she couldn't bear working for an AL West team...  Good luck to her in her new endeavor!!!
In the end, my dissolution with the game of baseball will not be a result of any loss of love for the game, rather from the realization that I can no longer bear the anger its supposed stewards cause to be built up in my soul. -Lee (01/08/2013)

Wish her the best.  Her coverage of the Astros remained a highlight, even after the team highlights started to become harder to come by.  Also, great anecdote about after the clincher in STL.

Reading the first 5 paragraphs, I thought she may have married Joey, got a job at Roy's restaurant and settled down in Weir.

Best of luck, Alyson.

+1,000,000,000!!! She was the most candid club person I've ever known. She also has tremendous perspective. When the club was getting the shit kicked out of it regularly last season and many of us were pissing and moaning, she could always find the silver lining and the big picture. I'll really miss her working for the Astros, but mlb has a real gem on its hands. Salute!!!

I think I have been to two Rangers games in the 25 yrs I have lived in D.  One really memorable moment though was years ago when the Rangers were really stinking it up almost everyday, Charlie Hough was really getting killed on the mound and an old lady (drunk out of her skull) was sitting just behind the dugout yelling "RAG ARM" continuously whilst Hough was pitching.  When he was finally taken out of the game, the reliever wasn't having any better luck, and she then started yelling "Son of Rag Arm".   Even the Rangers players had to turn their head to hide their laughter.

I didn't initially notice who you were replying to. This being a thread about Footer and all, I thought you were saying your family called you "Fuckhouse", and a) I couldn't figure out what kind of family would do that, and b) I couldn't figure out why "Rag" was a short form. I was puzzled for quite a while.

Well, it's not like Footer is dead or anything, but here goes, my favorite Footer moment reporting on the local nine.  It was during the time the Astros were fighting for the NL Central title. Might be 2005 or 2006. They went on a West Coast roadie, starting in San Francisco. This was the stretch drive and much was at stake, so the Astros needed to fight to win as much as they could.

Alas, the Astros played a truly uninspired game against the Jints, almost sleep walking their way through the nine innings and losing a very winnable game. Footer posted her report on the newly MLB sponsored Astros.com site. Most of us that were up that late and still on gamezone were amazed at her candor and calling out of certain players. She held nothing back and we were all going on about it for several minutes. Then someone posted that it was taken down and replaced by a milder account, although it still called it like it was, only without the vitrol the previous one had.

Footer became a hero that night to many of us. She'll now be getting much more exposure as it were and the whole MLB will be better because of it.  Congrats to you Ms. Fuckhouse!

You are not remembering wrong.  I believe it was Lissi (a former TZer) who e-mailed her about the original article being changed, and Footer wrote back to her to say that she didn't edit it.

And not to knock your memory, Noe, but I believe the game in question was this game in 2003 against a last-place Brewers team, when Jeriome Robertson turned in a spectacularly awful performance while the bats left 10 on base.  IIRC they loaded the bases twice with one out or less and couldn't get anyone home.  The FTC clinched the division the next day aided by another particularly uninspired Astros loss.

Jeebus. Not to defend Jeriome, but Jimy only let him face six hitters before pulling him? Damn, if he was on such a short leash, why run him out there in the first fucking place?

I think it had less to do with being on a short leash and more to do with how useless Jeriome was in that game.  Not to defend 1M, but Jeriome threw 18 pitches, 11 of which were balls (and four of the seven strikes were put in play) and had no command at all.  I also recall that he had pathetic body language from the first pitch on and looked like he had given up.

An all-around frustrating game: you're tied for the division lead against the FTC and the pitching explodes (12 runs), the hitting goes limp (10 LOB, 2x9 w/RISP), and the defense breaks down (three errors, three unearned runs).  Footer had a reason to write a pissed-off article.

The real shot to the grapes, though, came the next day as I kept switching back and forth between the Astros and Cubs broadcasts.  Brewers took a 5-1 lead in the 6th and Chip Caray's squealing reaction made me want to kill myself.  Cubs won both sides of a doubleheader and clinched.

In summary, Fuck the Cubs.

I barely remember the game, so I'll take your word for it. Robertson was awful, even when he won. He had nothing.

I have not seen this noted, but the best thing that Footer ever did was letting us see the draft of her game review.  Unedited, uncensored, sometimes brutal, and only on the screen for about 10 minutes before the prettified version replaced it.  Following the Astros will noticeably duller when she leaves.

This was what I remember as well, even though I thought it was late at night during a swing in San Fran. I do remember Lissi pointing out to all of us on the GZ. Waldo claims it was a game here versus Milwaukee, so I'm not going to argue because I have the worse memory of anyone here. But the idea is the same as you mentioned.
