Reds don't score in top one, even though Votto and Phillips got good wood on Wandy.

Got hit on the hand with a fastball while squaring to bunt, looked like he hurt his finger, trainers checked him but eventually came back to ground out.

What Joey said.

one thing I'd add about the immutable Durango from watching this first at-bat-- terrible slicing swing, but gee whiz is he fast! almost legged out a very routine grounder to short.

Bailey would be a nice pitcher to try and get on this team. He is making the Astros hitters look bad.....

What was it that JD or Brownie relayed from Wade's comments about waiver claims? Something about usual done in 7s? Huh?

That is what they said.  Ed said they usually put thru players in groups of 7.

Speaking of Bob.  I remember he made some disparaging remarks about women, don't remember them being this harsh though....maybe it was just the different time.

"    "I just don’t think a woman should be an umpire. There are certain things a woman shouldn’t be and an umpire is one of them. It’s a physical thing. God created women to be feminine. I don’t think they should be competing with men. It has nothing to do with her ability. I don’t think women should be in any position of leadership. I don’t think they should be presidents or politicians. I think women were created not in an inferior position, but in a role of submission to men. You can be a woman umpire if you want, but that doesn’t mean it’s right. You can be a homosexual if you want, but that doesn’t mean that’s right either."[1] "

Of course that is from wikipedia, so I am not claiming it is 100% accurate.

Just trying to keep the legend going.

First time I met him, I walked up behind him in a bar and asked (loudly) who that asshole pravata guy was. Now, I'm not a giant, but I'm quite a bit bigger than him. He turned around and I thought he was going to kick my butt. He probably should have. Very smart, interesting guy.

JD notes that Paredes has only been playing 3B for a month after he looks, let's just say awkward, making a play on a short hop bouncer to third.

Question: Does JD seem to be playing awfully far over towards CF tonight? Is there a reason? A LHP going against RHB: I would think he would would be playing more towards the line for a pull. What am I missing?

I'll tell you what, if I were in Houston I would pay money to go to an Astros game just so I could hear the Voice of God stadium announcer say NOW BATTING FOR THE ASTROS NUMBER THREE CENTER FIELDER LUIS DURANGOOOOOOOO and try to square that introduction with the scrawny little fucker standing there in the Little League batting helmet.

Would've like them - more excited to see this team honestly than the pre-trading deadline one. Will be there 8/19

I'm going tomorrow night so I am sure Mills will sit Altuve and Martinez for Michaels and Downs.  My sign will get confiscated if that happens too.
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

No, they're over hatman's right shoulder, across the aisle and back about a full lasso toss.

Has he moved down over time? I bummed a couple of seats in 02 or so and I don't remember being so close to the screen (but that was a long time ago).

There was a perfect shot in the first inning, but I missed it. I was on the phone. If you can back up the game to the reds batting, I think the first batter, you might be able to see.

I don't know if they've always had the same seats or not. Currently I think they're maybe on the second to last row in the section, somewhere in that area. There are people around here who have a much better idea than I do.

That might be the same then - from one of those gifs of yboddeus (i think) going nuts, I thought they were further down but they may have just been seat hopping

I remember once this idiot I know who at the time worked for Minute Maid went to a game with his boss. He told me he'd be going and said that he'd be visible. Sure enough, there he was. I watched him drink one beer after another until he was lit up. Then, again, he's sitting next to his boss, he starts hiccuping. He went on hiccuping for ten minutes or more. It was awesome.

It's hard to believe that they began the year with Bill Hall at second base. Hall seems as misty a memory as Kaz Matsui.

Who, Hall? He was picked up by the Giants who decided they wanted to corner the market on Astros second basemen and dealt for Kepp. Hall was DFA'd a couple of days ago.

Kaz is playing in Japan for a team based in Sendai. You may remember a bit of bother over some high water that affected the Sendai region recently.

I'm watching the Brewers and Cards on MLB Network, and Motte (Cards) just retaliated for the Pujols HBP by drilling The Peen. The Brewers announcers are all over it: "Here comes Tony", "That's bush league", "That's completely predictable, and it's Cardinals' baseball", etc, etc. It's hilarious.

And after the break (new pitcher in to replace Motte): "It all starts at the top, it starts with the guy in charge." I'm sure that will bring some "Who? Me?" action from LaRussa in the post-game presser.
