Anyone find the game on DirecTV in Austin (or anywhere)? I'm only finding the Rockets pregame.

I think y'all should give blood at union station on Friday morning before Alice's, pre-sf.  That way, you can get really hammered, not so much that you need an excuse, but more for the proverbial trump card on that guy who clutches his child as you stumble by--"sorry pal, I saved a life today giving blood and perhaps am a bit woozy....what selfless acts did YOU perform today?"

Of course this all presupposes that you actually wait until noon to start drinking and not negate your donor eligibility (at least those that already havent)

I don't get it either - what the fuck else is there to do in Cincinnati other than go on the Fuckhouse: The Early Years guided tour, but I mean even that has to get old/slightly creepy after a half dozen times or so.

Due to the fact that I was traveling all weekend, this was to be the first game of the season that was going to have the pleasure of watching all season in its entirety.  It was also to be the first day in said period that i was to abstain from the booze.  Something is going to have to give if this continues.

Well, there's good news and there's bad news. The good news is that there is some talent. Not much, but some. The bad news is that it is in the low levels. Low as in Apple Bottom Jeans low low low low low low low. Por ejemplo, Ariel Ovando. He's 17. So we can look forward to having him in the jardin derecho in 2019 or so, about the time Michael Bourn makes the transition to first base coach.

Watching On Demand.  Bourn and Sanchez have worked the counts bueatifully.  The rest of the team looks completely lost.

The ump is not calling low strikes so you'd think you'd not have to swing at the breaking pitches that are bouncing.

Depends. Someone with some common sense might buy the team.

If Johnson and Wallace turn out to be the real deal that will help a LOT. It would be excellent if Castro can return and play his position anywhere near to his potential. There are a couple of guys on the farm that can help sooner than later. JD Martinez can hit but despite Dick Justice's claim that he is a "five tool player" he is really a first baseman or at best a Carlosesque LF.

I'll be fascinated to see who the team can land for Myers and Wandy at or around the deadline. If PR Ed can figure out how to spin those guys into some more Bourns or even Wallaces then things might not be so bad going forward.

I'll tell you what, those damn Japs can cook them some okra. I remember one time I had a dish that was basically the okra slime as kind of a custard whipped up and foamy somehow, maybe egg whites, who the hell knows, mixed with an impeccably fresh sea scallop served in a beautiful sake cup. It was ridiculous.

Thank God for the iPhone/MLB app.

Was thinking the same thing. Was in the car for the start of the game, but thanks to the iPhone/MLB app got to hear 'My' (or is that 'Our') Houston Astros slap 4 on the Dickities in the 1st inning.  Life was good...

However... by the time I'd gotten through T3, I was almost completely sick of listening to the game. Not for the Astros play*, but because of how insufferable it was listening to DoRay babble on incessantly about whatever they were babbling about (*B3 hadn't begun yet)... Mind you, when they were actually calling the game it was quite tolerable, but everything in between (think it was Dolan babbling) was horrid**... (**I missed B3 entirely, though it appears that the Astros play was equally bad).

Caught the 5th inning - thank goodness for JD and Brownie, but had to break for dinner.

Now the Reds are up 9-4 10-4?!?!? Aaaaaaaahhhhhhhggggggghhhhhhhhhh!!!
In the end, my dissolution with the game of baseball will not be a result of any loss of love for the game, rather from the realization that I can no longer bear the anger its supposed stewards cause to be built up in my soul. -Lee (01/08/2013)

So it saves a run in a five run versus six run lead? Sanchez was playing too deep and Phillips got too good of a jump. It would have taken a miracle to stop that run. So get the out.

So it saves a run in a five run versus six run lead? Sanchez was playing too deep and Phillips got too good of a jump. It would have taken a miracle to stop that run. So get the out.

I'm not arguing that for a second.  I'm not.

I'm just saying, it was a play that (right or wrong) appeared to be worth an out at home and it still wasn't.

Just because we've blown 2 four-run leads in the first 5 games?

We also 'currently' have the same record as The Best Team in Baseball for 2011, and are 'currently' up 1/2 game on the Rays (for the race for the cellar)...

That's a pretty bad #5 too.

I've seen enough to know that Hall sucks.  His second AB features a strike three that was, literally, futher out of the strike zone than any swing I can recall in 35 years of watching the game.

No.  You're still arguing fundamentals as if I honestly don't get why it was a poor decision.

I get all that.  Really.

I'm saying, as the ball was approaching home, it looked like he would actually get the gambled out.   And he still didn't.

Not only that, but the umpire signaled safe before the play had even developed.

It wasn't a bad decision, by the way, just poorly executed.

Ha ha! Red Sox with an Astro-like play with the bases loaded. Indians have bases loaded and no outs. Batter hits a line drive up the 3B line, third baseman gets a glove on it and knocks it down, runner on 3rd heads for home, third baseman picks up the ball, steps on the bag and throws home. Varitek catches the ball while standing on the plate and then just watches the runner run across the plate. Oops.

Lexington starts tomorrow, right?  I think I might invest in MiLBTV this year just for sanity's sake.

JD and Brownie are already talking about the Astros having some good prospects in the lower levels of the farm system... Its gonna be a l-o-n-g season...

Surely not, the official scorer must have missed a couple...

Nash, yes, sorry, he hit the ball to second base in the adjacent field is what they were saying. He and Martinez can fight it out for first base after Wallace retires.

Actually... given the overall apathy regarding the Astros, Bud will have easily forced them into the AL West via realignment, thus Martinez will be able to DH......

Bourgeois in for Bourn.  Is Bourn hurt, or is Mills blatantly throwing in the towel?

Have you never read ( or at least seen the illustrated version of) the old testament?  Shit can get real bad real fast.  Barmes, Castro, Bourn, repeated anal plunderings...the Astros may be only on like the gnats at this point.
