Astros for sale?
« on: October 01, 2009, 04:11:31 pm »
Headlining in the 'whatever' category today is Tracy Ringolsby at Fox Sports: LINK

Word is two other teams [in addition to the Rangers] are available — the Houston Astros and Arizona Diamondbacks — although there is no indication that there have been any serious talks with a prospective buyer for either team.

WHATEVER.

(h/t to Astros County for the link)

In the end, my dissolution with the game of baseball will not be a result of any loss of love for the game, rather from the realization that I can no longer bear the anger its supposed stewards cause to be built up in my soul. -Lee (01/08/2013)

It's amazing what passes in sports journalism. I wish my editors didn't care about things like details and sources.

Fox26 contacted Mclane about the rumor and he said  "Nothing could be further from the truth," Justice, without telling us he also gets all his news from Mark Berman nor citing his pal Ringolsby, mentions the denial then makes use of Ringolsby's desperate cry for attention to rewrite the tired story about how Mclane is really rich yet he wont buy pitchers.

From what I was told a few weeks ago by a family member who is friends with Drayton, the club has been for sale for months.

And see, according to my hopes and dreams he sold me the team for $87.35.

I couldn't make payroll.

Everything's for sale; there just isn't always a sign out front or an active sales market.
"(512) ybbodeus looks just as creepy in HD as in person."   That is a problem, and we are working on it.

I've heard the same thing from a friend with a usually reliable source.

There was talk several years ago about Tilman Fertitta being interested in buying the team.

I would guess Tilman isn't as liquid as he once was and is tied up with his take private of Landry's, amongst other things.

1.  Fertitta didn't have the money.  To buy a MLB franchise, you need several hundred million dollars sitting around, that you won't even notice is missing.  They won't let you have a team if you have to scrounge up change for the purchase price.

2.  Fertitta has never really been liquid.  He's always been in debt up to his eyeballs.

3.  After he went into the casino business, they'd never let him own a team, even if he *did* have the money.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.
