JD opining that the strike zone is tight and praising Wandy for working through it to get a crucial double play by The Peen in the first. According to Astros.com, Oswalt threw 40 pitches in the pen and feels good, ready to start Tuesday.

Bourn with a fine catch in deep LCF, had to run a long way and showed no signs of leg problems in getting to the ball.

Hardy reaches when a strike 3 curveball eludes Q and Hardy runs it out. Kendall is plunked on the forearm and there's 2 on, 2 out in the top of the 2nd. 2-0 count. Deuces wild!

Blum grabs a scorched one-hopper to his right and throws to 1B for the out. Good Guys coming up, still no score in the 2nd.

Yahoo! Michaels whacks a double to move Blum to 3rd. 1 out, Erstad up.

Fuck, I can't get comfortable. Friday I had hernia surgery. Fell and busted up my knee on my stairs soon after returning home from the surgery. The knee is very swollen and my abdomen is on fire. Last night in my sleep I pulled a muscle in my back and it's in spasms. The pain killers seem to have no effect.

Jesus, man. I hope you didn't really screw up your knee on top of the surgery. Can you take anything like Doan's Pills or whatever that crap is for the back?

If the swelling doesn't go down by Tuesday, I'm gonna see my regular doctor to have it drained but it's not that sore. I've got a heating pad on the back and it helps.

Yes, inguinal. Laparoscopic surgery, or so they say. Went in at 11:30 am and was home by 4:00 pm. You had the same recently didn't you?

Yes. I was diagnosed by a surgeon here in Tampa with a minor hernia on the right as well as the major on the left. I was set to have lapro but ended up having open because the doc in Austin where I had it done disagreed about the right side. He explained open is less invasive when you are only doing one side. I had a very uneventful recovery, including a AA meeting 4 days after.

Dick Face and Fat Vegan.  I like that. The monikers are more than descriptive. Both Brewers are really easy for me to dislike, even excluding the fact that they're both exceptional hitters. Something about the way they carry themselves as they go about playing the game, just says, "hate me."

Often the third base coach, the bench, or someone scoring in front, or the on-deck guy can give the runner a heads up.

Erstad on 2nd, no outs and 1st base open, Q fails in his effort to bunt Darin to 3rd. result, 1 out with a man on 1st. Is a sac-bunt a good call in that situation?

Did we ever go with the Gatlin's "Houston" during the 7th inning stretch? Just wondering. Can't beat "Deep in the Heart of Texas" obviously.

I wouldn't think so because if it works you've got a runner on 3rd with two out and the pitcher's spot up. The runner at second scores on most hits anyway.

Do you fucking people question everything? Yes, the bunt
to get a rnner to 3rd with 1 out was a good call in a 2-0 game.

I thought there were no outs. But I asked the question, not to second guess, but because I wanted to hear what people had to say. People like like you in particular, who I consider to have an expertise far exceeding my basic knowledge of the game.

Not Jim, but a well placed basehiit into the outfield is needed to score the run from second, whereas a dribbler, infield hit, blooper, balk, passed ball, wild pitch, or error can score the run from third.

The run expectancy matrix says it was not a very good play:

RE 99-02   0   1   2
Empty   0.555   0.297   0.117
1st           0.953   0.573   0.251
2nd           1.189   0.725   0.344
3rd           1.482   0.983   0.387
1st_2nd   1.573   0.971   0.466
1st_3rd   1.904   1.243   0.538
2nd_3rd   2.052   1.467   0.634
Loaded   2.417   1.65   0.815

With a runner on second and no outs, you can expect to score 1.189 runs. Assuming the bunt worked to perfection and you got Erstad to third with one out, the run expectancy falls to 0.983. Assuming that Q simply failed to get the bunt down and Erstad remained at second, it falls to 0.725. When the worst case scenario played out and Erstad was out at third, it fell further to 0.573. Irrespective of the resident deity's opinion, it was a stupid play.

Hey, dipshit. How many instances in your sample data does Quintero and the pitchers spot come up with one out and Erstad on second?

With RISP, Q has a BA of .320, an OBP of .393, a SA of .480, and an OPS of .873. He has one of the better stats on the team.

Carlos Lee with RISP is .272 .351 .488 .839.

Would you have had Carlos Lee bunt in that situation?

1.  You're looking at the wrong probabilities.  The Astros are looking for 1 more run, not the "big inning", with the 8-9 spots up.

2.  Look up and define "small sample size" before you bring in 's situational statistics.

3.  Pleasegothefuckaway.

I guess I was wrong, I thought there was one out when he attempted to bunt. To me, that didn't make it a good or bad play, just a decision and an approach but not a whole lot different either way, not a game-changing moment or anything. With no outs, it's a much better play and THAT I can see.
