Footer on Tejada/WBC:
« on: February 24, 2009, 01:59:40 pm »
Quote
I'm hearing Miguel Tejada may not play in the World Baseball Classic after all. Playing time may be an issue, and the Dominican Repulic team may be considering asking Tejada to play out of position. We'll find out soon enough because final rosters are being announced tonight on MLB Network, but it sounds like he's reconsidering his decision to play.

I'm all in favor of him sitting out.  It wouldn't bother me any if Roy had to sit out, too.

Possibly a concern about leaving and re-entring the country?  Are visas subject to additional review/scrutiny when you leave/enter during their terms?

He is on the final roster.  As are the following other players/coaches tied to the Astros:

Oswalt (USA)
Lee (Ven)
Lo (Taiwan)
Burton, Barnwell & Clapp (Canada)
Always ready to go to a game.

He doesn't.  He plays for Panama.

And now he's in again.

In, out, in, out.  Tejada is becoming Anne Heche.

edit: Memo to self.  ALWAYS check NYCU first.  You cannot post faster than the Ferrett.

You think Tejada just earned the nickname "Double-Double" or "Mr. Burger"?

I can only hope that Miggy lives up to Double-Double.

Miggy starting at 3rd right now on ESPN vs. the Netherlands.  No idea why he'd think he would have had a shot to play SS on a team with Jose Reyes and Hanley Ramirez.

How many years has Willy Taveras been in the league....and announcers STILL don't know his last name?

Is there anyone at the Worldwide Leader capable of saying Willie T's name right? It is not Tavarez, you dumb fucks. TAVERAS. (tah-VER-as).

I don't understand why his name is so difficult for these people.

ESPN still doesn't know how to say his name; he still doesn't know how to run the bases. The universe remains in harmony.

On the wild pitch where he didn't score, I don't know how big a blunder that was.  He was on 3B with 1 out representing the tying run with David Ortiz and Miguel Tejada due up.  Could he have scored?  Probably.  But I don't think it was the no-brainer that the goobers from ESPN made it out to be.  On getting thrown out at 3B in the 9th...well, you just can't have that.  On a side note, that catcher for The Netherlands has a terrific arm.

I really enjoyed watching baseball yesterday. There's something to be said for meaningful games that are important to the teams. ST exhibition games are about individuals preparing for the regular season, winning isn't important. WBC games are all about team baseball and winning. I can't imagine why Taveras tried to steal third with 2 out in the 9th. Was that from Oquendo or did Willy do that on his own? And

I agree with Hudson Hawk that the play when Taveras didn't score from third on the wild pitch wasn't as obvious as the idiot analyst claimed it was. Who was that analyst? Totally unprepared, totally unprofessional--to take money and then appear in a national broadcast and not even know the names of the players--just shameful. He fortunate I'm not his boss.

The upset of the Dominican Republic by the Netherlands was stupid. And I loved it. It was like when Ralph Sampson was at Virginia and they lost to Chaminade.

Gary Thorne or Steve Phillips. I only saw the first few innings, so I don't know which one it was. They're both idiots.

Yeah it was Thorne on play-by-play, so that leaves Steve Phillips as the analyst. There's something wrong in a world where a Steve Phillips has a job that is even remotely related to baseball.
