The catch by Jim Edmonds
« on: May 20, 2008, 10:35:32 am »
Brown and JD were yammering on about how great it was, and they had to bring up the catch on Ausmus, hope somebody switches your hot dog for a tofu dog boys.   But lets look at it.  First, he misjudges it and has to haul ass, such as he can nowadays, back.  Looking over his shoulder he changes course and has to veer sharply to his right, just so he can catch the high fly ball over the shoulder on the warning track in front of the Hill.  A catch Bourn, or any competent CF really, should make flat footed facing the field.  Yep, vintage Anaheim Jim.

If it can't be made to look difficult, there's really no point in doing it at all. Now excuse me, I'm going to meander out into the hall, run back into my office and dive to hit the post button. Sportscenter, here I come....

Hell, you could have said that after you skipped for hitting "post".

PAM: I need to talk about your flair.
MICHAEL: Really? I just try to get the ball as fast as possible. I, uh…
PAM: Well, ok, catching the ball is the minimum, ok?
MICHAEL: Ok.
PAM: Now, it’s up to you whether or not you want to just do the bare minimum. Well, like Jim Edmonds, for example, has flair on every catch. And a terrific smile.
MICHAEL: Ok. Ok, you want me to dive more?
PAM: Look. Michael.
MICHAEL: Yeah.
PAM: People can see a catch on TV, ok? They come to Minute Maid for the atmosphere and the attitude. That’s what the flair’s about. It’s about fun.

Seriously, did anybody think that he wouldn't do something annoying to the Astros as soon as he signed with the Cubs?

I almost think the cubs will cut him after this series.

And the Phillies will pick him up. He won't even have to leave town.

Wait, Derek Jeter's Jewish?

Which brings the whole flair thing full circle

The rest are pretending, they put on a show
And if there's a message I guess this is it

Speaking of his catcher's helmet...did anyone notice on the last roadtrip, he was wearing a different helmet, one without graphics.  Last night when he first came in the game, he wore the old one with the "Astros" and cow skull on them.  By the next inning, he'd switched to the plain one.  I wonder why.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

Pence's blast onto the hill last night could only have been better with a Junyah-style face plant by our preening hero.

Would never happen.  He'd slow up juuust enough so as not to get there and avoid mussing his hair.  Like last night.

He has used the plain one on numerous occasions already.  I have not asked him why though.

Of course not, that would violate the restraining order.
