Towles looks freaking awful.  Batting average over the last 10 days now lower than 0.034.  That's some serious suck

Only 8 folks total currently following this thread, so I wouldn't worry about PBP unless you just wanna (although personally I like GZ a bit better when there is a PBP)...

I'll keep it going for a little while.  I agree that the GZ is better with PBP, especially if you miss the game and want to relive it the next day.  Thanks OSF for all the times you've done it.

Tejada got on base (not sure how), Berkman singled, Lee flew out, Spaz hustled out an infield single, Loretta walked in a run, Wigginton grounded to SS (force on second to score another run.

I'm not sure I've ever seen anyone try to score on a pop to the secondbaseman who was under it and facing the infield. Three runs behind with the middle of the order up, idiotic but I'm glad he tried.

wow, i completely thought(at least i imagined) that Kaz was running away from the infield and made some sort of running grab and had to turn and fire home.  glad to know the rangers 3rd base coach screwed the pooch on that one.

Rangers PBP guys saying that had to be a player decision (and that no 3B coach would have made that kind of call)

So we'll have to wait for the mayo comment to confirm, or has that been on a sign as well?

Apologies to JimR, but UT baseball can't end soon enough for me. I got no video on the TV and can't get it on the radio because of the UT-A&M game on KVET.

the Waco station? 1010 or something like that?

mlb.com?

I just switched over to Rangers feed to get away from this crappy audio on Astros feed. Their roving reporter was interviewing the wife of the Ranger PA announcer. They were talking about the dot races. I'm back with the crappy audio.

So, they're both crappy audio.

You'd think someone in the truck could tell something was wrong with the audio, it's really annoying. I was able to use simulated surround sound along with a wide setting on my center channel speaker to just barely make out Brownie and JD. Commercials kill me, however.

IMO Bourns ABs have been looking a lot better the past week or so (although the results have not been markedly better).  Just wishful thinking or accurate observation?

1010 from Waco, 1420 from SA (I think) and occasionally 740 all can be picked up in Austin sometimes.

FSN has often had bad audio on Astros games. Maybe the first time this year but last year there were many times last year when it was awful.

Hou Top 6

Rupe pitching (Gabbard 5 IP, 5 ER, 9 H, 3 BB, 4K)

Towles looks at strike three
Bourn singles to RF
Kaz (Bourn caught stealing 2nd, Coop out to argue, gets tossed), F8

Middle 6, HOU 5-0

Coop got tossed again?

Called Bourn out on a caught stealing.  Bourn had a great jump, throw was off the mark 5ish feet from 2B, ump said Young tagged Bourn on the arm/shoulder (replays showed the tag missed him).  Coop argued, seemed to be walking away (I think) and assclown ran Coop (again).

ETA: A2 (Angel Campos) was the assclown that ran Coop this time, not A1 (Angel Hernandez).

He's been slapping alot of pitches to the opposite field lately which I think is a very positive development.

He basically goes with the pitch. Bourn stands right on top of the plate, so if he gets an inside pitch he tries to turn on it. Out over the plate, he goes up the middle. Outside pitch he punches it to left. Teams lately have been trying to pitch him inside, but several have drifted over the plate.

He'll have better results soon. I for one am not worried about him.

Top 7: Rupe (RHP) pitching.

Tejada: line drive single into right on 3-1 pitch. None out, Tejada on 1B.

Berkman: grounded into 4-6 fielders choice on 2-2 pitch (obviously thrown by the "Berkman Marry Me" sign proposal in the outfield). 1 out, Berkman on 1B.

Lee: flied out to short center field on 1-1 pitch.  2 outs, Berkman on 1B.

Pence: singled to right on first pitch.  2 outs, Berkman on 2B, Spaz on 1B.

Loretta: grounds into 6-4 fielders choice on first pitch.  3 outs.

Middle 7: HOU 5, TEX 0

Bottom 7: Backe pitching (77 pitches, 49 strikes)

Catalanotto: flied out to Pence on 1-0 pitch (nice running grab by Spaz).  1 out, none on.

Young: singled into left on 1-2 pitch.  1 out, Young on 1B.

Bradley: homered to right on 3-1 pitch (low and inside corner, not a horrible pitch by any means).  HOU 5, TEX 2. 1 out, none on.  [Am completely sick and tired of hearing the theme music from "The Natural" every friggin' time the stRangers hit a HR].

Murphy: homers on 1-1 pitch (that one was a meatball). HOU 5, TEX 3.  1 out, none on. [There is that friggin' music again.... UUUUUUUGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH].

Break in the action.  Astros going to the bullpen.

Top 8: Jamey Wright (RHP) pitching.

Wigginton: struck out swinging on 1-2 pitch. 1 out, none on.

Towles: flied out (line drive) on 1-1 pitch. 2 outs, none on.

Bourn: bunt single on 1-1 pitch. 2 outs, runner on 1B.

Bourn caught stealing for the 3rd time in a row (although #2 was complete crap). 3 outs.

If Boggs had reached it would have been really interesting with Astro-killer Vasquez and Hamilton following.

I had to turn it off after the Laird at bat because watching a black screen with Bill Brown doing the PBP and Astros fans screaming in the background was too much for my heart to take. Everything sounded like disaster.

I'll take 7-3 and not look back. Good going into the Cubs series with a win.

I'll keep it going for a little while.  I agree that the GZ is better with PBP, especially if you miss the game and want to relive it the next day.  Thanks OSF for all the times you've done it.

Eggszactly, sometimes the best time to read the GZ is a few days afterwards.

IMO Bourns ABs have been looking a lot better the past week or so (although the results have not been markedly better).  Just wishful thinking or accurate observation?

Accurate.  Sean Berry asked him to move up on the box to allow the pitch to come to him.  With his quick bat, he can still swing the way he has in the past, however, he's hitting it more towards left and up the middle.  He still gets around a breaking pitch too quickly, does not allow the ball to get into the zone, keep the hands back enough to drive it back up the middle.  That is why he rolls over a lot of breaking pitches or changeups.  But he's hitting the fastball well, taking it where it's pitched.

He's improving.

Sorry for breaking into the pbp, but what is this 5 wise men bullshit?!?

Nickname that the bench gave themselves.  Five veteran players, brought in to *mentor* the young'uns.  Loretta, Blum, Erstad, Ausmus and Cruz.

Did they give it to themselves?  Or was it granted by Do-Ray?

BTW - one of the highlights of the game to me was JR Towles blocking the plate the way a catcher should instead of trying for the swipe tag once again.  He stood in the way of the plate to make Kinsler have to slide away from the shin guards and basically that is the run that did not score even though Kinsler was stupid to try.

But had JR tried for a swipe tag, he may of gotten the same result he got on Friday night and that would've meant tie game and not a one run lead to protect in the ninth.
