We have never played this team as well as we should have.
Starting now, things will change.

based on recent history, a "change" would be no 10-run ranger beatdowns this weekend.  here's to not embarrassing ourselves.

Rangers knocking the crap out of the ball is what cost him a run.

Yeah, as soon as he reads some minor league stats to find that player the Astros should call up to take his place.  Two words: Ben Zobrist.

Chacon's no-decision run is interesting. It ties...

Dick Stigman was my first baseball card ever. 1961 issue. It was dropped into my Halloween bag in 1963 by someone who was obiously not a
baseball fan. He played for the Indians in '61, but was with the Twins in '63. I started collecting cards the next year. I got Nellie Fox in the first 5 pack that I actually bought, about six months later. That purchase cost me a nickel. At the time, Nellie, who I had never heard of, played for the Astros and looked, to me, like he was 100 years old. He was only 47 when he died, eleven years later. The '64 Pete Runnels card looked like he was 150 years old.
....to an 8 year old.

I started this in the top half of the first inning, got a phone call, two and a half innings later hit the save/send button.

Since he does that almost religiously, I'm guessing where he grew up, there were no lawns and he longed for the grass that really was greener on the other side (of town).   The key to help him with his obssesive behavior is take away his stat sheets.  He'll be clueless after that.  As clueless as clueless can be of course.

There is also something to be said for getting into the groove of a game by playing in the field instead of just DH'ing.  With Berkman on a streak like he is/was I'm not so sure I would have changed it up and put him at DH.  (But I'm not getting paid the big bucks)

Salty crushed that one!  I'm surprised Shawn Chacon has only allowed five runs... he's pitching like a man who should be behind 10-2 right now.  It's still early though.  If I'm Cooper, I fight the urge to use a reliever to rescue him if he can't get out of this inning.  Let him take this for the team.

Charlie (who thinks he should be) in charge

i was at a rockets game some time in the early 90's and he was the fill-in public address announcer.  the crowd began to boo after a questionable turnover that went against the rockets, and pallillo stated "it was" into the PA with his trademark snarkiness.  i have never before or since heard a PA announcer anywhere editorialize like that, much less in a way that demeans the hometown fans.

And if anyone had challenged him, his modus operandi is to pull out a stat sheet and beat you down with numbers.  He'll come after you with number after number until you cry uncle... or laugh and realize this guy doesn't know anything without a stat in front of him to tell him what to think.

Crap, 5-2

In other news, Jayson Werth has hit 3 homers, and he's on deck in Philly.

Yeah, my son is pissed.  He has him on his fantasy team and benched him today.

Shawn is lucky only 5 of the runs he's allowed are earned, because in my book... he should be down by 20 runs the way he was throwing batting practice at the hitters tonight. Some one send Chacon a wake up call and alert him that this is American League baseball and hitters love to take batting practice... during the game!

I don't know.  Didn't ask him.  Lemme see.....

ok, I got the story.  He traded for him and didn't have time to add him to the lineup before the game started so he had to sit him.

Don't know why he originally told me that he benched him.  This is his first year to ever do a fantasy team.  He's 14.

Well, shit. I was worried that we were getting a bit of the big head today, so I came home and cut the grass and edged the yard. Came in and turned on the game just in time to see Hamilton go yard and make it 4-2. No problem says I, so I go upstairs and take a shower, and when I come down it's 8-2!

Oh well, now it's 8-4, and the Astros still have 14 outs to go.

I didn't realize it was two strikes. Looked like a 'swing to mess with the catcher while Kaz steals' swing.

Coach, I don't know if you're a part of the GZ tonight, but Towle's body language seems to be improving at the plate.  I was impressed with that last AB personally.  I'd love to hear your thoughts.  Unfortunately, I'm gonna have to hang up and listen, because I have hit the Shiner 99 a little hard this evening, and I swore not to post drunk anymore.  This latest 99 I have in hand will push me past my limit, but man I think I'm seeing better swings out of Towles, and I hope this is not just wishful thinking on my part.  It may well be though...

Goodnight guys and gals, enjoy this game, I know I will.

yes a damm bookshelf.

The first thing I do is take the cam out and the put the pin in and make sure that it's adjusted to the proper depth. Sometimes when it's screwed in to the other piece it winds up pulled up too tight or not tight enough. If that looks ok, the next thing is to make sure that the cam is all the way into its hole.

Yup. Some games are not meant to be. Although I wouldn't bother to throw Hamilton a single strike tomorrow. Let's see how patient he is.

just getting back from the game

when i saw the play at the plate with towles, at first look (with astros vision mind you)..it appeared that he was out..of course they didnt show any replays in the stadium, but is the general consensus here that safe was the right call?

Dont know if it's the general consensus, but I observed 2 things about the play, Towles tagged the runner high, and he was safe.  Also, Angel Hernandez is a certified, with papers, douche nozzle.

Thought he was out at first, but after the replays would agree with your assessment.

Hernandez is a friggin' assclown, douche nozzle is a bit too kind...
In the end, my dissolution with the game of baseball will not be a result of any loss of love for the game, rather from the realization that I can no longer bear the anger its supposed stewards cause to be built up in my soul. -Lee (01/08/2013)
