I didn't think the [sarcasm][/sarcasm] tags were necessary on this site.
You wrote G Gordon Liddy and my brain transposed it to Hunter S Thompson.
I think either would be entertaining.
They didn't kill nobody. They didn't rape nobody. I don't see what the big deal is.
When the Red Sox got caught red-handed doing illegal things, Rosenthal brushed it off with a "yeah, it happens...slap 'em on the wrist and move on." He thinks the Astros should be disbanded, every citizen of Houston fined $1 billion and Hinch given a lengthy prison sentence. Fuck him.
The bullpen catcher is also going to be busy doing other things for much of the game.
The latest from Score:
some details of how the scheme operated.
Trevor Plouffe, a nine-year veteran who last played in 2018, explained that the Astros used a live feed to capture the opposing catcher's signals to the pitcher, then used technology to relay that information to the bullpen catcher, who would then indicate whether the pitch was a fastball or offspeed by putting his hands up on the fence or keeping them down. Plouffe's information came courtesy of big-league pitcher Carson Smith as well as an unnamed source.
I have been told postseason does not count. I was rooting for JV even before Cole was an ass.
FWIW, Crane told the Chronicle the move had nothing to do with the Taubman ordeal.
Frito Pie doesn't guarantee a win, it's simply preparation and dedication. It's like hitting a 2-0 line drive 110 mph with the bases loaded...it usually plates two runs, but baseball is a cruel mistress sometimes and the BBGs are fickle. You do what you can do, not matter what.
Because baseball.
The patheticest.
He should have kept his ass in the dugout. We know you thought it was a bs call, man. You already said that. Was it worth saying it again and getting tossed out of the WS?
Fuck.
The plate is 24 inches wide.
You necks are out of control. It's only three runs.
Everyone saying the Astros are doomed for the rest of the series because they failed to score in this inning needs to shut up. There are four more innings tonight, and, this team is good enough to beat Max Scherzer in a game 7 with Zack Greinke on the mound if it comes to that. Act like you have some damn faith in the team Lunhow built.
The sack-gargling that’s going to happen all night now may cost me a TV.
2-0 fastball was a 3 run homer waiting to happen.
Make him pay, Carlos.
Soto changed his approach with 2 strikes. Both feet were flat and stance was very wide. Haven't noticed that from him before. I think his ankle is bothering him.
Wow?!?!? Did Soto just ground out?
And at the young age of 21.
Soto can do some big damage here.
He blew Robles right the fuck away.
Just 21? You don't say!
Someone (Matt) recommend a good cigar for me to have if the Astros are fortunate enough to win one of the next two.
Thank you!
Yuli's glove, among others, have been on display in this WS.
There are several contracts expiring this year with Harris, McHugh, Miley, Rondon, and Smith. That is $27 million in salary right there. I would think that Houston could fill a few of those roles internally with the exception of Harris and Smith, who I would hope that they try to re-sign. I think they could make the money work. Maybe they try to deal Greinke or Reddick in the offseason to free up some payroll if they re-sign Cole? Obviously they would probably have to eat some of Greinke's money if they deal him. I guess it all will boil down to if Cole really wants to stay. He won't find a better situation as far as winning and doing so long term in the offseason. I think the two big names that will hit free agency soon are Springer and Correa. At this point, I think Springer is the priority over Correa. Once Correa hits free agency you have Grenike off of the books if they don't deal him. To me, I think they can make it work with Cole while not putting the team's future in jeapordy if he wants to stay.
That may be the wrong order for those two.
Now, if we can get a win at home... that would be nice.
Soto is only 20?!?!?
Still can't hit with RISP.

The only real answer at this point is for Taubman to be fired. Anything short of that, rings hollow and allows this snowball to roll downhill.

This whole thing is awful. I just want to get excited for the WS and now every article/tweet/post rehashes a drunken idiot's unprovoked defense of an abuser and the organization's abomination of an apology. Yuli's actions in 2017 are even being brought up again to highlight how terrible the org is and how shitty their fans (we) are for supporting it.
Just fucking awful all around and it's detracting from one of the most celebratory moments in baseball.
Game 1 can't start soon enough.
Exactly. And being a "progressive" makes him no less culpable for his actions than if he was just a good old fashioned male chauvinist.
He pities the fool that don't agree with him.
Mr. T. I represented public entities for 37 years. In addition, I was a fairly high-profile coach who dealt with the media every day. I have heard that trite saying many times, and I know it is true.
My point is and was some in the media will keep this alive at least in part out of animosity for the Astros.
I want to know if the SI reporter went to Astros top brass about it before posting the report. We train our staff to report abuse of any kind right away before doing anything else. Don't let a perpetrator have any more time to continue bad behavior than can be helped.
So fucking what? That is NOT what I was saying.
. . . Hinch deported back to whatever shithole place he's from. Oklahoma, I think. Let's make it go viral!!
At the end of the day, im not letting this sour my enjoyment of the World Series. The WS is about the players. I can separate the 2. I can be disappointed in a buffoon in the front office and still root for and enjoy the team.
This is rousing.

I’m glad Buck shut up and let the celebration play out. It makes re-watching the clip that much more enjoyable.
I hate Chapman so bad.
It's time for these assholes to hit into a double play.

How did you get through the 2017 postseason?
Need a good inning from Urquidy here.
Bregman needs to start hitting like an MVP

The Astros have seen more of the Yankees' bullpen than the Yankees have the Astros'. That might be a benefit to the Good Guys. I'll be glad if they make Chad sad.
Where’s Nate? We gotta have him for play-by-play if we’re gonna win this thing.
Do you think Charlize Theron ever even tried one of those Budweisers?
Terrible luck with line drives.
I heard "Walk Altuve", which worked.
I'd like to thank Boone for putting Stanton in the middle of their order. He's not a great bet under normal circumstances, but with this injury he's useless.
I've given up hope that this ump is on the level.

We've got a giant screen out in RF. Let's just use that.
We'll be at home by then, and can use the super-secret signaling system...or SSSS...so the whistles won't be an issue.
That is what I thought after I read the article. There will be people whistling constantly the next time the Yanks come to Houston.
A-ha! You’d take Cars!

Sources: Yankees dugout erupts over Astros' alleged sign stealing
Yankees players and coaches became angry with the Astros during Game 1 of the ALCS when they noticed a whistling sound in the Astros' dugout -- which they believed was an over-the-line example of sign stealing, and a violation of the game's unwritten rules.
According to three sources, a Yankees coach noticed a whistling sound in the opposing dugout on certain pitches on Saturday night in Houston. The Yankees started yelling across the field, and people in the dugouts argued back and forth.
If tonight’s game gets postponed until tomorrow, I’d flip Verlander and Urquidy in your order. Verlander won’t be fazed by pitching in Yankee Stadium in October, and he’s on normal rest Friday.
I'm hoping that Cessa gets distracted enough by Marisnick to make a mistake with Bregman.
Yeah. I was thinking pop fly out off the bat (It did go deeper than I thought) Then all the screaming. I was like, wait what? Did I misjudge? Stupid Yankee fans.

It seems that today's game isn't likely to be rained out. Tomorrow's game is toast.
Last time I went to an Astros game, a woman held up the line for 15 minutes arguing that she should be allowed to bring in two bottles of wine, and when they absolutely refused, she stood there drinking them straight from the bottle...no they did not make her step out of line to do so. And no, it wasn't Mrs. Hawk.
It's a good 30-45 minutes to get through on a Tuesday night in June. I was thinking the Postseason would be a nightmare. Unless they've dramatically improved their security screening. I plan on getting there early.
So...I'm assuming it's a least an 1 -1.5 hours to get through security at MMPUS?
$16.50 for a big Love Street. If Abbott can keep people from profiteering during hurricanes, he ought to be able to do something about this.
It looks like I may have a couple of tickets for game 6, if necessary. Haven’t been to Houston in about 30 years. If we get to go and want to stay in the area of MMP.....

Great post. This place is consumed by “what if” anxiety.
I'd really appreciate it if the astros would score multiple runs.
Here's hoping Cole tonight proves himself the second half of a heroic couplet.
I have the same outfit I wore to all home games in the 2017 post season. I did include a Springer jersey today. I even have the same necklace on.
He looked good early against the As varsity.
Good question. Hope he is back.
This is a ST game now.

I'm sure it really bugs you that Webster says:
im·pact
noun: impact; plural noun: impacts
/ˈimˌpakt/
1. the action of one object coming forcibly into contact with another.
"there was the sound of a third impact"
synonyms: collision, crash, smash, clash, bump, bang, knock, jolt, thump, whack, thwack, slam, smack; contact
"car parts were spread by the impact over a wide region"
2. the effect or influence of one person, thing, or action, on another.
"our regional measures have had a significant impact on unemployment"
synonyms: effect, influence, impression, footprint; More
That's cool, but describing something as "impactful" still makes sense even with that definition, especially considering Newtonian ideas of bodies acted upon.
I found the new paint job impactful, as it quite changed the course of my thinking on the house in general, like.
The use of the word "impact" instead of "effect" drives the engineer in me crazy. An impact is the collision of two or more bodies in space, like a crash.
"The new paint had quite a crash on the house's appearance." is just as stupid as "the new paint had quite an impact on the house's appearance".
It’s literally the most annoying thing in the world.

What if I take a beautifully marbled prime NY strip, sprinkle it lightly with chili powder, salt, pepper and cumin, grill it to medium rare and lay it over a bed of Frito corn chips. Does that count as Frito pie? How about if I boil the steak?
What's unclear to me is whether you now need to eat frito pie every day, or if we need to find a new frito pie (semi-)virgin every day.
Man, soooo close for Springer. I was worried about his shoulder after that divot he took.

I like Thai food more than anything. I like ice cream sometimes.
I went to Portland Oregon once and might have had some legal “candy”. It was great!
Next thing I know I’m downing a PINT of Thai chicken peanut satay ice cream. I thought I had experienced the same sensation that the first person felt when they tried chocolate ice cream for the first time. I was so convinced of its greatness that I bought another pint to take home. Heck... I even made it back before it melted.
Next day I was so excited to revisit the next great ice cream flavor.... holy shit it was so disgusting! Like inexplicably bad.
I wish the River Oaks location didn't close at 4:00.
When I lived in Colorado, we had a group that bought season tickets to the Rockies (obviously they have not won a World Series) and we each bought a share which consisted of 8 games. We had to pay early so the tickets could be bought and then had a 'game draft' where all the home games were fairly divided up.
Something to think about...
I used to say they'd have to let some guys walk, and I'd be fine with that. But with that kind of increase, yeah, they should go get a bat. For that kind of money, they should be able to build a DeLorean time machine and go get Stan Musial.
They used Tucker as a young TW because of his swing.
Astroball points out that framing stats are tracked and valued by the Nerd Cave and factored into player value. Good framing saves dozens of runs over the course of a season, so this is factored into the Astros secret sauce WAR for catchers.

It was a Warbird, technically, not a “cruiser”, but otherwise I vouch for this version completely. Oh, except that now that I think about it you missed the part where Bregman and Lucroy wrestled for like three days on the first base line and then at the end Bregman touched Lucroy’s knee or something and Lucroy changed his name.
When Lucroy lost the ball trying to make the tag, did it hit the ump in the chest or was I seeing things?
Nope. The second run was unearned.

McHugh should be used as a closer.
It's ridiculous to expect him to get outs under these conditions.
I live over the edge, man. My issue is with the phrase, "you can start printing World Series tickets now." I guess for sake of keeping the scout's opinion accurate, the ballclub should start printing World Series Tickets now. But that would be as dumb as the opinion.
Yes, thanks NeilTI’m always good for PBP and beer spills.
He did his job, stayed in the rundown long enough to get Reddick in scoring position.
It’s a line from an Austin Powers movie.
It's like watching a baseball game in a gymnasium.
This strikes me as perfectly plausible.
I guess you could also have asked an usher where the guy in the suspenders and bow tie is. Of course, they might say, The clowns that are blowing dog balloons are over there and you would have to explain, No, the guy is wearing boat shoes. Oh! she'd say, He's in 124.
Just shouting does seem more efficient, really, now that I think about it.
You know, my mother for years suffered a disconcertingly relentless cough. It was loud, persistent and unbelievably annoying, even for someone as patient and forgiving as I am. (She lives with my brother who is basically a crazy version of me, so you can imagine that particular domestic scene...) The small upside to the cough was it acted as an outSTANding geolocation device. If we were to meet in a Target, maybe I'd first ducked into a Hobby Lobby, all I'd need to do is walk in and get past the shopping carts and the weird, random shit they have stacked up, kind of in between that and the watches, and just stand there for a second and listen. It never failed. I could walk straight to her.

Well, no, that would be preposterous.
Why is Reddick not playing?
So according to Trump, his lawyer just woke up one day and decided to give $130,000 of his own money to a porn star for no reason, no expectation of being paid back, and no expectation of anything in return. AND...included Trump in a non-disclosure agreement without Trimp’s knowledge. Just for the hell of it. That’s the story he’s going with. And the GOP is eating it up.
Question for the lawyers (please don’t send me a bill for this): can an attorney negotiate on behalf of a client without the client’s knowledge or consent? Seems that’s an ethical violation, if not a legal one.
Three lawyers arguing and no one’s getting billed. I can find some gratification in that.
That is exactly how I read it then: a 5 day overlap of suspension and DL.
Todd initially said:
Why can't they just put him on the DL after the five games are over?
To which Jim responded:
Dishonest. He must serve the suspension when he is able to play.
That's pretty much the "controversy" to the extent there is one. Some people think that serving a suspension when you're unable to play anyway violates the spirit of the suspension (which compounds existing complaints that the suspension should have occurred during the World Series anyway). Manfred, clearly, doesn't agree with those complaints.
Jake Kaplan in the Athletic noted that by having Gurriel go on the DL after the suspension actually costs the Astros an extra game of Yuli's services. I haven't read the article so I'm not sure if that's because how the schedule lines up or if it takes into account the added benefit of being able to play in rehab games.
The difference theoretically is that he isn't missing any games in which is physically able to play, and thus he and the Astros aren't actually being "penalized" (aside from the obvious monetary penalty to Yuli). Also, if he took his suspension after his DL stint ended he would not be able to play in minor league rehab games while he was on the disqualified list.
Of course Manfred and the league office have no problem at all with how the Astros handled the suspension.
Anyone here today? I’m in sec 208

You guys operate under the old paradigm, his attorneys pay his bills, not the other way around.
Don't worry, a crack, white shoe firm will swoop in and seize such a prestigious opportunity.
Me too. But I made Bob Uecker look like Barry Bonds facing little league pitchers.
We got an extra hard swift kick in the ass for swinging at a first pitch breaking ball. It was always “anticipate the fastball, adjust to the curve.” Some guys are better breaking ball hitters than others, but nobody is good at it.
The "McWho?" questions on McHugh's first game ring in my ear each time I see his name in the lineup. He represents so very, very much about what is good with the current Astros; from the way he was pulled from obscurity to the way he was shaped to be the pitcher he is to where he sits in the depth chart right now.
Best solution for replacing Gurriel looks like Gonzalez at first, Marisnick in left.
Anyone else really excited the season is about to start in 10 days?
