My bad for opening this thread. I am going to the game.

Hahaha.  Thanks Jim.  My bad for revisiting the sub.

This whole thing is awful.  I just want to get excited for the WS and now every article/tweet/post rehashes a drunken idiot's unprovoked defense of an abuser and the organization's abomination of an apology.  Yuli's actions in 2017 are even being brought up again to highlight how terrible the org is and how shitty their fans (we) are for supporting it.
Just fucking awful all around and it's detracting from one of the most celebratory moments in baseball.
Game 1 can't start soon enough.

Resurrecting this thread to ask a question.
I'm finally moving home after Harvey at the end of this month, and we're going to cut the cord.  For those of you who use a proxy/MLB.TV, does that interfere with your Netflix/Hulu/Amazon apps?  Do you change the DNS on your Smart TV and access the apps through a fire stick/Roku or something?  I don't know the lingo very well so please tell me where I'm an idiot.  Are there certain brands that do this better than others?

Basically I need my 10 year old to be able to turn the Astros on whenever he wants and my 8 year old to change it to Netflix whenever she wants.
Any help appreciated.  Going back to reading more and posting less now.

Talk Zone / Re: Astros just acquired Osuna
« on: July 31, 2018, 02:28:54 pm »
This was my initial reaction when I heard the news.  After thinking about it, I realized that I am actually for second chances that work.  I don't want to give someone a second chance if they haven't been given the remediation, tools, or support structure to help them succeed.

Although I wish my favorite team wasn't having to endure the negative press and second-guessing surrounding this move, I honestly don't think that there is a better situation out there to help this dude turn things around.  Great front office that does its homework and doesn't make rash decisions  - check.  Manager that has a track record of being relatable and helping players through tough patches - check.  Motivation to do things the right way and be a part of something special (i.e. back-to-back WS champs) - check.

So yeah, I wish that the Astros didn't have to deal with the negatives, but for Osuna's sake, I'm glad he's here rather than some crummy organization that doesn't have the resources or track record of the Astros.

Well reasoned and something I will keep in mind as this plays out.

To me there is absolutely no correlation whatever between redemptive love given to a family member and arranging for a highly paid baseball player who beats women to play on your team.

I think this is where I fall.  And I don't think that's smug moral superiority or a rush to judgment.  What he allegedly did is reprehensible and not something I want associated with my favorite baseball team.  I'm all for second chances; I just wish his was happening somewhere else.

I have 2:

1) The throw.  Neil and HH explained this far better than I can, so no explanation needed.

2) Springer's 3-run bomb in Gm 7.  For the first time in my entire life I thought "the Astros might actually win the World Series."  Charlie locked it down spectacularly, but Springer ended that game early.

No, that is not at all what was said here. Luhnow had to be ok with not doing the deal because until about 10:00 pm on August 31, the Tigers has said no on Velander for over a month. He though the deal was dead.

Lunhow goes to my church and we had an organized outing before an Astros game at MMPUS with him right after July 31.  Lots of people in a conference room with him talking on various topics for about 30 minutes.
At the end he took questions and said - please no questions about the Aug 31 deadline.  We're not getting Verlander.
I realize he wouldn't have told us either way, but it sure seemed like he was resigned to not getting him.

The Astros have gotten everything they needed from ALCS MVP Justin Verlander, and the rotation looks strong, especially if Lance McCullers Jr. and Charlie Morton can come close to replicating their performances in Game 7 of the ALCS. But the World Series will come down to the effectiveness of the bullpens, and the Dodgers have the advantage.

That was one of the most amazing throws I have seen.   So perfect Gary Sanchez might even have caught it.

So I'm in NY for work and I told a client after Game 5 what pissed me off the most about the Yankees/Astros series was that we had the better team at almost every position.  I said there's only 1 Yankee I would trade straight-up for: Judge (I love you Reddick, please don't ever change).
I went to his house to watch Game 7 last night and apparently he told his teenage sons what I said before I got there.  I conceded the bullpen issue quickly, but once they started in on Gary Sanchez/Brian McCann I stood my ground.
Then he caught The Throw and then he hit The Double.  I've never looked so smart in my life.

43
MLB Network is much better for baseball coverage.

I'd like to read about what other people think about using Verlander in relief. Bold move by Hinch. "WTF" captured my sentiments well when it happened. What do you think about using the game five starter for his very first start in middle relief in game four?

I wasn't a fan of it when it happened, mainly because I wanted him to start Game 5 if needed.  I thought it was a knee-jerk reaction to Sale pitching and a bad one at that.  I thought Morton was doing ok and Musgrove could've put in a few innings when he faltered.
After watching Hinch's presser yesterday I'm not as annoyed though.  Maybe it's because they won the damn game and everything looks rosy now.

Current rotation:

Kendrick Lamar - Damn. (hip hop)
Spoon - Hot Thoughts (rock)
Real Estate - In Mind (lazy rock)
Laura Marling - Semper Femina (rock/folk)
Ryan Adams - Prisoner (rock/folk)
Bonobo - Migration (instrumental)
Run the Jewels - 3 (hip hop)

...and the best of the year so far:

Thundercat - Drunk (every genre, includes appearances from Kendrick, Kenny Loggins, Michael McDonald and FlyLo)

I feel like I'm missing a few.  I'm going to check out Sphinx's recs from the 2016 thread, but there's more out there, I know it.

Can't wait for the new Grizzly Bear, whenever that drops.

101
Today is my birthday and I had a minute so here's what I've got: since I dropped, the Astros are 13-18. Nolan Ryan was the pitcher of record in the initial loss (1980) and the initial win (1983). The 90s were the best decade (5-3) and teens (2-5 so far) will have to close out strong to avoid tying or trumping the 80s for the worst (2-6).  Roy Oswalt pitched them to a .500 record on April 17ths with a dominating performance in 2007. Last year, Altuve hit his 4th homer of the year on April 17th.

At first blush, I'm having a hard time squaring these facts with my long held belief that they "always" win on my birthday.

Happy Birthday!  Now get off my lawn.

Game to be made up Sept 9 as doubleheader in Oak.

I've genuinely enjoyed these updates/lessons, Duman.
And lest we forget the joys of childhood baseball, my 7-yr-old caught a pop fly in a game today.  I couldn't see it from two states away, but I imagine it was a 10-foot bloop that somehow landed in the open glove dangling by his side.  I'm certain his general obliviousness will result in many (or few) Sexy Bitch catches over the year(s).

Coloring Book was such a delight.  Still can't stop listening to it.  The little Christmas mixtape that Chance released on the 24th was really fun too.

Eylsium was really good too.  Good pick there.

The two critical darlings I couldn't get into this year were Car Seat Headrest (because I guess I never got the appeal of The Replacements the first time) and Frank Ocean (which sounds like it should get better with additional spins, but it doesn't).

From a hip-hop perspective, I also really enjoyed D.R.A.M.'s "Big Baby D.R.A.M." and Young Thug's "Jeffrey" album.

Since they weren't mentioned elsewhere, Beach Slang and St. Paul and the Broken Bones also had solid albums this year.

Car Seat Headrest is actually not in my wheelhouse either.  But the kid is 24ish years old and there's just so much great stuff going on in that album, start to finish.  I will admit his lyrics aren't the best, but they work with what he's doing.

I never clicked with "Jeffrey," but I also didn't give it much run.  Also I know RTJ technically released in 2016 but I'm putting that beast of an album in 2017.

And dammit I didn't know there was a new St Paul album out!

EDIT: Along the lines of St. Paul, I highly recommend The Olympians, which is listed above.  It's instrumental but here's the band:  "a group of regulars that includes members of the Dap-Kings, Lee Fields’ band, and other players like Michael Leonhart, a noted trumpet prodigy who directs Steely Dan’s band and was formerly a house player for the now-defunct label Truth and Soul Records."

Excellent list. We differ on Dawes and very little else. I would add Nathaniel Ratliff and the Night Sweats to the best albums in their stead.

Also I have a strange distaste for Childish Gambino. Would substitute the new Frank Ocean, I think.

I need to check out that Nathanial Ratliff album, but I'll stand by my Dawes affection.  It's dad rock, sure, but it's good dad rock.

I like Donald Glover from Community and I'm excited about his Lando turn in the new Han Solo movie.  Childish Gambino isn't for everybody, but the dude's range is pretty impressive.

Beer and Queso / Re: Rogue One (Spoilers...probably)
« on: December 22, 2016, 12:29:19 pm »
The only two plot pieces that bother me about VII are:
Rey being amazing at everything she does for the first time (Falcon, lightsaber, force usage, etc), and
Kylo magically appearing wherever he wants at the end (from killing Han to facing off against Rey/Finn).

I was fine with VII having the same basic timeline/plot as IV as well, but at this point I think the Empire/Kights of Ren/bad guys need to think a little outside the Death Star.

Beer and Queso / Re: Rogue One (Spoilers...probably)

Finally saw it last night - loved it.  I did my best to avoid spoilers and came away very pleased.  Some of the best aerial fighting I've ever seen (although by Dunkirk's trailer, it may surpass it).  I loved Darth's scene at the end.

My only question is:  where do you watch this in the sequence?

I don't understand this?  I know you know where the movie falls chronologically, so I'd assume you watch the sequence in its proper order: Rogue One, IV, V, VI, VII.  I don't know of any other Star Wars films, so I can't imagine any other way.

As far as ranking things go, I may prefer Rogue One to Force Awakens.

Beer and Queso / Re: Big 12 Expansion
« on: December 12, 2016, 11:38:58 pm »
As a Longhorn fan, I love this.  I was never impressed with him as OC but that wasn't entirely his fault.  I don't know anything about him being an asshole, but I've seen enough smoke to expect a fire.  Not having to deal with the ongoing (albeint somewhat irrelevant) lawsuit helps.

As a Cougar fan, I like it.  He's done well recruiting in TX from Day 1, and his coaching pedigree is basically unmatched (Saban, Urban>Herman, Mack, probably a couple I missed).  Who knows how well he'll do, but he'll bring kids in and by now he should know what to do.  Kiffin would've been a bad move, same with Les.  I don't know Orlando much, but if the recruiting rumors are true he's a blah pick.

Beer and Queso / Re: Big 12 Expansion
« on: December 08, 2016, 01:15:38 pm »
Miles is also in his 60s, so perhaps he would be content to have the best G5 job out there.  Maybe not, but probably more so than Kiffin or Orlando or guys who are going to coach another 30 years.

That's a good point.

Beer and Queso / Re: Big 12 Expansion
« on: December 08, 2016, 12:53:06 pm »
Miles would be more inclined to stay for five years or more, which is longer than any alternative. Plus, he's a great Texas state recruiter.

I don't know much about the guy, other than his coaching career at LSU.  But he's still a big name and went through a really messy firing.  I think if he has success at UH, ESPN and other media outlets will start running redemption stories and convince him that he's better than a non-P5 school.

I'm not knocking UH here, and this isn't Longhorn elitism talking (I went to UH for a bit, too).  But if he even sniffs a CFP spot in the first three years and [insert random P5 school] comes calling, he gone.

Beer and Queso / Re: Big 12 Expansion

You hire Kiffin, you're doing this again in two years.  Probably the same with Applewhite.  Orlando?  Maybe, maybe not.  Berman was saying a few hours ago that Miles is still on the table.

I don't think Miles is a long-term solution either, given success.

According to this;
http://espn.go.com/espn/feature/story/_/id/14759409/why-leicester-city-become-biggest-long-shot-champion-sports-history

The Twins were 300-1 to win the World Series that year prior to the season starting, Leicester City was 5000-1 to win the Premier League this year.

That's pretty interesting.  I liked this part:

Quote
JUST HOW CRAZY IS 5,000-1?
Here are some other bets (legal in England, not the U.S.) offered at those odds by William Hill:

• Elvis is found alive.
• Yeti or Loch Ness Monster is proven to exist.
• Christmas is the warmest day of the year in England.
• Kanye West and Kim Kardashian name their next child Sinner.
• Kim Kardashian becomes the U.S. president in 2020.
• Barack Obama plays cricket for England after he leaves Oval Office.

Brian Eno's reaction:

Quote
David’s death came as a complete surprise, as did nearly everything else about him. I feel a huge gap now. We knew each other for over 40 years, in a friendship that was always tinged by echoes of Pete and Dud. Over the last few years - with him living in New York and me in London - our connection was by email. We signed off with invented names: some of his were mr showbiz, milton keynes, rhoda borrocks and the duke of ear. About a year ago we started talking about Outside - the last album we worked on together. We both liked that album a lot and felt that it had fallen through the cracks. We talked about revisiting it, taking it somewhere new. I was looking forward to that. I received an email from him seven days ago. It was as funny as always, and as surreal, looping through word games and allusions and all the usual stuff we did. It ended with this sentence: ‘Thank you for our good times, brian. they will never rot.’ And it was signed ‘Dawn.’ I realise now he was saying goodbye.

My least favorite plot hole, if you can call it that, was the near the end when they were fighting the new Death Star (or whatever it's now called).  We have 15 minutes to get blow it up!  Oh shit those 15 minutes are up!  Now we only have 2 minutes!
Not a big deal, but still.

Han's death scene killed me.  I expected him to die going in, but man.  Lightsaber thru the torso by your son?  Brutal.

Also in the camp of Rey being Luke's daughter, but I agree it would be too cute.  Maybe when Luke saw her he sensed her immense force capabilities?  She sure seemed to master it pretty quickly.

I've always liked Fister, and it seems injuries have set him back a bit over his career.  I wouldn't mind Luhnow taking a flier on him.

I was unemployed and sleeping when my phone started ringing incessantly.  I finally answered after screening it a few times - it was my mother, who was a Delta flight attendant and scheduled to fly that morning.  She said, "Don't worry, I'm alright."  "Great, mom, good to know."
Then she told me to turn on the TV.  At that moment the second plane hit.
I read somewhere that one of the planes that was supposed to attack (but was grounded before it took off) was to leave from IAH.  I choose to believe that report was false.

The only thing we really need cable for anymore are Astros games, playoff games (theoretically), and recorded Austin City Limits (and I could probably find those if I looked hard enough).

You'd be surprised - it's much more difficult than it should be.

I've been without cable for two years.  We have Netflix and Prime and I mooch a buddy's HBO Go from time to time (I know, I'm a heathen - I don't care).  I spent last week at a beach house in Bolivar that had DirecTv and I spent every single night watching the Astros, start to finish.  My wife saw this and, bless her soul, said fuck it - let's get cable again.
So once August 11 hits, I will be living proof of somebody who ponied up $100/mo for America's Fattest Dancers just to watch the Astros.  It pisses me off, and I held out as long as I could, but I'm over it.
The wife, bless her soul, isn't down with the proxy for the same reasons many here have listed.  I just knew our shitty internet couldn't handle it so I didn't fight it too hard.

Bill Murray brings the truth:

Murray, wearing a floppy hat and a blue and gold paisley shirt that was perpetually untucked, began bantering with the masses before he took his first swing.

He asked if any fans saw his beloved Cubs sweep St. Louis in a double-header Tuesday. One woman behind the ropes said she was a Cardinals fan.

“Satan’s messengers on Earth,” was the way Murray described the Cardinals.

“And then it turns out your team is cheaters, too,’’ he added.

[...]

A few steps away, a boy with a Cardinals hat asked for an autograph. Murray signed, then noticed the red cap. “Are you a Cardinals fan? Get out of here. Rotten kid.”

Bill Murray might be my favorite person on earth.  Even if he's a Cubs fan.

I'm just south of Brays Bayou and while we took a ton of water it never reached our house.  It receded quickly and we were able to drive out around noon.

We lost power at around 9pm and got it back around 4am.  I understand how these things go, so that instance, in and of itself, doesn't bother me.  What bothers me is that we've lost power 14 times (yes, I'm counting) in the last three weeks, for at least 3 hours each time.  We've tossed two full fridges of groceries already and are afraid to waste more money at Kroger just to have it spoil.  They were supposed to cut our power today for 10 hours to fix everything, but with the recent rain they've postponed it indefinitely.  Not saying that was the wrong choice, but damn I want reliable power.

He certainly not now, though he's a good potential candidate.  I'd say he needs at least 5 more years in Houston, however.

2-3 more years at this level, some playoff success and another few years of respectible productivity puts him there for me.
I'd rather see Bagwell's beard carved into the side of a mountain, but it's hard to argue with Biggio.
Moon's a good candidate, but easily replaced by Watt in a few years or the other of Bigs/Bags (assuming they both get to the HOF).

For Young’s part in the loss, he threw 18 scoreless innings and issued not a single walk in the 20-inning defeat, with the deciding runs both unearned. Waddell’s batterymate Ossee Schrecongost caught every pitch that day, with his 29 innings behind the plate still a single-day record.

I'll go on record saying that I like Brian Williams more than any other anchor since Brokaw (Stewart/Colbert/Oliver notwithstanding), but it's sheer stupidity for him to put himself in this situation.  He's there to convey the news, not to be a part of it.  I don't give a flying fuck if a news anchor has been in a war zone or a flood or a koala's vagina.  That's what reporters are supposed to do.
Anchors read the news, toss to an on-site reporter, then toss to the weather person.  Anchors are necessary to TV news because they look good, read well and instill confidence in what they're telling you.  He's now 2/3.

This is tough.

Alternative: Spencer Krug (Moonface/Wolf Parade)  I think he's brilliant.  And he's grating enough that I know of only one person who can stand him (although I think hostros7 may like him, too).

Classical: De Victoria - O Magnum Mysterium I was a big choir nerd in HS, so there's probably several obscure choral composers that don't immediately come to mind, but this is what I turn to the most.  Runner-up: Biebl's Ave Maria.

Blues: Delbert McClinton  I don't listen to blues much, so I have no idea if he's popular in that community or not.  But my parents loved him while I was growing up, so there you go.  Nostalgia pick.

Old Rock: Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream I know this isn't old and it's still alternative and everybody's heard it, but I still listen to it weekly.  It's one of the few albums I don't get sick of.  Plus, this is a tough category, so shut up.

Jazz: Les McCann/Eddie Harris - Swiss Movement Easiest pick of all of these.  I don't follow jazz as much as I'd like (or much at all), but I don't understand how anything from that genre could top this.  My crazy stoner uncle suggested it to me, so it has street cred, too.  Runner-up: Grant Green - Live at the Lighthouse.

Country: Lyle Lovett  - Step Inside This House Another genre I don't know much about.  I know Lyle is popular-ish but this album (covers of Texas songwriters - TVZ, etc) is incredible.  If I go on a road trip, this is the first album I play.

Now I'm off to check out Neil's top 6.

A little review of his catching skills from last spring.

From the comments section of that article:

Quote
Evan not only had his knee fixed but I suspect after watching him this year compared to last he's watched a lot of film and talked to some of the catching corps (Perez, Laird et al) because the way he moves is different. It has cost hi s a little catch and throw speed (by eye) but he's better in the dirt than he was last year. He's also sequencing pitched better than I expected. This was the area that worried me but watching him so far he's been better than Laird and of course Doumit. The catching metrics are a farce in general. The best way to tell whether a catcher is doing his job is to watch how the pitchers work to him. The pitchers are clearly enjoying working to Gattis.

I still don't understand the trade, but I like what Gattis brings.

It used to get confusing sometimes at night, driving down on the Bolivar Peninsula. Sometimes after several hits on the bong you couldn't tell the difference between the lights along Highway 87, and the lights from all the ships lined up out in the Gulf, waiting for their turn to go up the ship channel.

I was with a friend one night when he drove his Ford Torino almost all the way to the second sand bar before it stalled out, and we started to sink.

Hardly a dilemma on the scale of Konrad's, though.

I've always found the third bar to have better fishing.  I usually don't drive out there though.

And now we know why he's coaching at Youngstown State (interesting that the president there is Jim Tressel).

Holy shit that's hilarious. Calling your former boss a cunt on the way out the door is always such a great idea.

So I then asked Callis wouldn't the NJCAA have rules similar to the NCAA re payments received by amateurs? He said he thought that the fact the payment was a settlement rather than "pay to play" meant it wasn't likely to be an issue.

If memory serves, NCAA is the only cartel that had the pay/play rule.  I can't remember where NJCAA falls in the spectrum though.
Plus all of that blew up in June so I doubt it's much of a concern.

Album: Lost On The River: The New Basement Tapes

Quote
AVClub:
After a tension-filled tour and a life-threatening motorcycle accident, Bob Dylan famously holed up in his Big Pink home near Woodstock, New York in 1967. There, with his backing group The Band—then known as The Hawks—he recorded over 100 songs, officially releasing the final, 24-song product in 1975. The album, The Basement Tapes, would go on to be considered one of Dylan’s best works, a wholly compelling if messy document of rustic American music.

Now, 47 years later, unused lyrics from those sessions have fallen in the hands of producer T Bone Burnett (Inside Llewyn Davis, True Detective). With approval from Dylan himself....

On my first listen, but this could be cool.

Four Roses is considered the fourth best whiskey in the world? That stuff is overpriced at $20/bottle. Am I missing something?

I had it at a bar in Oakland earlier this year and loved it.  At $20/bottle you just can't beat it for an everyday whiskey.  Granted, there's no way it's 4th best in the world.

I also tried the Yamazaki this year and I can't say that I liked it.

Definitely part of it.  As my mom says, paper lies still and lets people write whatever they want on it.

I'm not sure that's true.  What the media says players and agents and other front offices are saying and what the vast majority of players/agents/executives thinks is not necessarily the same thing.  Those who don't have a sensational opinion aren't interesting for anyone to quote.

I believe that many of the fans are starting to believe it, but I honestly don't know how to change that other than that over time the truth will come out.  Not to say that PR strategies can't be changed, but I don't really think that's what is behind most of the criticism.  The Astros serve as a convenient vessel for caricature both by people who want to hurl thoughtless polemic at the new guard in baseball and by people who have legitimate concerns about the changes taking place in baseball, neither of which requires anyone to really understand what the Astros are or are not doing.

And to the extent that there are specific concerns about what Bo Porter did or how he was treated, it's not appropriate for Astros management to respond to those concerns publicly.

Intentional or not, you just PR'ed one fan back from the brink.
Carry on.  Thanks for posting.

Alyson, right? That's a beautiful name. Is that Greek? That Alyson. I don't know. It's a beautiful name, though. There's a great song by Elvis Costello. Do you know it?  'Allison, I know this world is killing you, Oh, Allison, my aim is true.'  Anyway, a good friend of mine used to say, 'This is a very simple game. Does one tip?

Nope.  When you arrive, you leave.

It's also nice to be assured of a clean car.  UberX (which I assume will also come to Houston if it hasn't already) is good, too.  It's basically the same thing as Uber but no town cars.  Usually it's a clean Rav-4 or Prius or something.  I had one UberX driver who was shitty and said the X people get treated like shit, but that's just one driver out of dozens I've used.
There's a rating system involved as well.  You rate your drivers when you're done and you can see other people's ratings for the same driver.  Conversely the drivers also rate you as a passenger.

Choosing between Uber, UberX, Uber XL (same as X but SUV) and other flavors is all done in the app.  It's incredibly easy and not much more expensive.  A trip to the airport might run $10 more.

Chet Faker - Built on Glass  I've gone back this so many times this year and it gets better with each listen.  "Talk is Cheap" is such a great, great song.  I have no idea who the guy is other than he's a bearded Australian dude and he once sang "No Diggity" for some reason.  But the whole album is worth a listen.

I've gone from being a big NFL fan to a casual fan so I don't know the answer to this. The Texans drafted a DE with a first-round pick a few years back and there was a lot of popular sentiment for them drafting Vince Young. I think it was Mario Williams? Was he a bust or did he just move on?

You're right - it was Mario instead of VY or Reggie Bush.
If memory serves (and it rarely does), he was good-to-great when healthy, with one stellar year.  But he kept getting dinged up and the Texans let him walk to Buffalo.
Others may remember it differently/correctly.

I think Clowney will take Mario's old jersey number, too.

Yeah, I hear this all the time from statgeeks...every ball put in play has an equal chance of becoming a base hit, and it's just dumb luck that separates the screaming line drive and the routine ground ball. Which is ridiculous on its face.

I'm no statgeek (remove the word 'stat' and you're pretty close), but I think their intention is to separate the screaming line drive that lands in a SS's glove from the screamer that's hit two feet to Jeter's left.

I went to see Das Rheingold tonight and now I know why the Astros haven't been winning on Wednesdays.  Wotan's been busy at the opera.  If you scroll down this article, there's a good picture of Wotan thinking about stuff besides Astros baseball.  http://classicalvoiceamerica.org/2014/04/16/review-wagner-rheingold-houston-grand-opera/

The good news is that Das Rheingold ends Saturday, and Wotan can get back to his main job.

I honestly cannot tell you how jealous I am of this.  I studied the Ring in college.  I had tickets to the final dress rehearsal but was out of town.
How was it?

I definitely have never had spotted leopard crotch flu. I wasn't regaling anyone with a "tale of woe." I was addressing someone who wanted to know more about it. Since I've had that, I thought that I'd say how doctors treated mine. I didn't realize that it was going to attract witty comments from you.

Postmodern Jukebox is the creation of a pianist named Scott Bradlee, who assembles a variety of fine jazz and near-jazz players in his living room to make a weekly video of a song that has nothing to do with jazz.  This is one of my favorites:

http://www.postmodernjukebox.com/2014/03/08/variations-on-careless-whisper/

They are always outstanding.  This week's song was a Rihanna song, and the cover is so much better than the original that it almost justifies the original.

That's fantastic!  I always thought Wham! had a Dave Brubeck influence.
