Talk Zone / Which autographed baseball did you butcher as a child?!?
« on: January 19, 2013, 11:51:06 pm »
In between catching The Sandlot on video and ybbodeus mentioning Dizzy Dean in the Musial thread, I was reminded of the autographed baseballs I'd butchered playing street ball over the years...  My 'minor' infraction was using a Roy Smalley(sp?) signed ball back in the day... but... my MAJOR infraction was destroying a baseball signed by Dizzy Dean (dad had gotten the signed ball from going to Dizzy's hamburger franchise back in the day - rather than AL or NL, the ball had the burger franchise logo on it).  Funny thing is, that in conversations with buddies over the years, seems like every one of them has a similar story (not BS stories, rather legitimate and seemingly universal story of 'was out of baseballs so we grabbed one signed by _________ and played).

So... my question to y'all is what were you worst 'used an autographed baseball to play sandlot/street baseball' infractions?  (Mine, obviously, was the destruction of the signed Dizzy Dean baseball).

Discuss.

"Al-Jazeera... is negotiating to buy Al Gore's Current TV and with it, access to 60 million U.S. homes..."

ETA: I guess it's official (via the AP): LINK

Gore and his partner Joel Hyatt announced the sale in a statement.

"Current Media was built based on a few key goals: To give voice to those who are not typically heard; to speak truth to power; to provide independent and diverse points of view; and to tell the stories that no one else is telling," Gore and Hyatt said.

"Al-Jazeera has the same goals and, like Current, believes that facts and truth lead to a better understanding of the world around us."

Interesting tidbit: In 11 seasons with the Astros, Phillies and Nationals, Lidge saved 225 games in the regular season and 18 more in the postseason, the second-highest postseason save total in history, behind only Mariano Rivera (42).

Here are you're 10-13-2012 'housecleaning' notes for The Bus Ride:

(1) Stickies were removed from the individual 2012 affiliates threads (sans Greeneville).
(2) 'Early 2013 Draft' and '2013 Mock Draft' threads were merged and stickied (I liked both threads and wanted to have a single 'go-to' during the void for 2013 Draft rumors, news, etc.
(3) Added a sticky to the AFL thread.

Day game, starts at 2:20 EDST. ASTROS GOING FOR FRANCHISE NL WIN #4000. GO 'STROS!!!

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
