We're going to leave volume 15 up for 2 weeks as your Minor Reports staff will be out of town next week. It's possible that Agent Smith may show his face here though.
In the meantime we except you fine folk to continue the banter here, especially as the draft moves closer. There'll be a lot of info flying next week. We expect Purpura and/or Ricciarini to give an interview or two to astros.com concerning the draft, so look for that next week.
Also, the player and pitcher of the month for May will be posted late because of our absense and the draft.
You likely won't see us after Friday and expect to return June 6.

The Astros are tightlipped about this kind of stuff, but it's likely his off-field activities are catching up to him.

Draft and follow signed out of Pearl River Community College pitcher Corey Bass ,

Noticed John Fagan got promoted to CC over the weekend.
Also, who is the "W. Reynolds" that showed up in the Salem box scores? Is this Wilton, the Detroit prospect/suspect? Did he get cut or traded??
-
Just noting that BA has 3 Astros on their latest hot sheet:

(Patton, Pence, and Nieve, for those too lazy to click.)

Any news on who the Astros are targeting in the draft? I've heard Pennington, Crowe, Ellsbury, Marceaux, and even Danks as possible picks for the Astros at 24.

signed by Mike Rosamond - is that THE Mike Rosamond?

His dad.

Brooks Conrad did get promoted back to RR to fill Burke's spot.
Wade Robinson promoted from Salem to take Conrad's spot at CC.
Ozzie Fernando activated from DL to take Robinson's spot at Salem.

Could someone please explain to me why the Astros are not promoting Hunter Pence? He is lighting up the Sally and has 18 home runs, 40 RBI, and is hitting .339! And he's 22 years old.

"That's something that we're talking about," said Ricky Bennett, assistant general manager and director of player development for the Astros, the Legends' parent club. "If he continues at this pace ... we're pretty happy with the way he's going. And I think it's just a matter of time before he moves to the next level. When that will be, we really haven't put a timetable on it."

Troy Patton pitched another 6 innings of scoreless ball last night. His streak is now at 24.1 scoreless innings. That is a Lex. Legends record.
-
Hunter Pence has taken the Home Run lead for all of the Minor Leagues with 21.

I mentioned to Noe and Agent Smith a couple of weeks ago that I thought the Astros may go for Marceaux in the supplemental first round. AS then said the Astros scouted him heavily the last time he started against UTSA. Now, I'm thinking they'll take him with pick #24.
-
mlb.com has an audio mock draft and they choose Marceaux with our 1st pick as well. he draws comparisons to Roy Oswalt.

I hadn't heard those comparisons. Probably related to their physical stature.
The interesting thing and fun thing for me about this draft is that with the Astros having a new regime doing the drafting we really have nothing to go on to make predictions other than 1 interview at mlb.com.

BA Makes that comparison:

May 20: Marceaux Makes His Case
by Will Kimmey
McNeese State junior righthander Jacob Marceaux struck out nine batters Thursday in a 6-1 complete-game victory against UT San Antonio. He allowed five hits and two walks in pitching his fourth complete game in five starts. He's 5-0, 2.66 with a 47-16 strikeout-walk ratio and 35 hits allowed in his last 44 innings. His 6-foot-2 frame and repertoire of a low-to-mid 90s sinking fastball, power slider and hard downward-breaking curveball remind some scouts of current Houston righthander Roy Oswalt. Marceaux could pitch his way into the first round, but is more likely to go in the supplemental first round.

Albers left last night's game in the first inning after a walk and two outs. Anybody know what the story is??

SALEM, VA-The Salem Avalanche and Frederick Keys were rained out Monday night at Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium.
The game got started a shortly after 7:10 p.m. due to threatening skies over Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium. Salem recorded two outs in the first inning behind starting pitcher Matt Albers before the game was sent into a delay and eventually cancelled.

Well the rain delay after two outs answers the question ... the box score is complete, though, (The Link) so the game was not "canceled", just rescheduled for Tuesday night.
I'm just glad that there was not an injury of some kind.

Carried a no hitter into the 7th inning. Got the first two outs in the 7th before giving up a single to center.
Hunter Pence also hit another home run.(22) He keeps getting closer to the Lexington record of 25.
-
He has now gone 31 innings without giving up a run. He is 8 2/3 away from the south atlantic league record.
It is very possible that he would be the starter for the SAL all star game in a few weeks.
