Yes, I second that!
-
Didn't we chase Sabathia from a game after one inning a few years back?
-
TV coverage has started which is great, if they let the college football over run my head would have exploded.
-
Buck claims that he always says there's nothing like a Game 7 in baseball and therefore baseball is better than football. Cannot disagree in the least.
-
We ate at a hibachi place tonight.
I contemplated placing both hands on the grill and screaming to settle my nerves.
-
I’m 37-years-old and have never felt like this before.
Here we go.

-
Didn't we chase Sabathia from a game after one inning a few years back?
I think so, seen the Rays get him a few times too as I remember, but I guess its gonna happen from time to time. Let's hope tonight is one of theose times.
-
TV coverage has started which is great, if they let the college football over run my head would have exploded.
Since its already Sunday for you, can you tell us the starting pitchers for game 1?
-
Didn't we chase Sabathia from a game after one inning a few years back?
In his career, Sabathia has coughed up 6 homers and 3 doubles in just 3 games vs. the Astros, with an .807 OPS. That only includes regular season but fuck it.
Also, in his career he has a 5.09 ERA in the ALCS with a 1.67 WHIP (in 46 IP). Better in other postseason series but again, fuck it. I got my proof.
-
I'm no prognosticator, but there is one talent in this game that is on the cusp of upper echelon greatness, and it isn't #99.
Carlos Correa has been the most productive SS in the game since his debut in 2015. These games are made for players like him.
-
sit down!!!!
-
Crowd sounds juiced.
-
Since its already Sunday for you, can you tell us the starting pitchers for game 1?
Hey mate, we may have had this discussion before... are you at the game?
-
Crowd sounds juiced.
Big crowds are great, I've been in > 80k football games a few times and it is pretty awesome.
-
Now you chuckin' in there Charlie!
-
Nicely done, Charlie Morton.
Let's get some hits.
-
Didn't we chase Sabathia from a game after one inning a few years back?
I think you may be thinking of King Felix, but we can roll with it. Maybe?
-
Here we go.. Top of 1
Mark Carlson behind the plate.
Gardner, 95 strike, offspeed strike, strike swinging at 97. Have a seat! 1 out!
Judge, foul, ball outside, slider out, grounder to Bregman.. 5 -3 2 out!
Gregorious, 97 on the outside for a strike, foul, uncle charlie gets him swinging! Have a seat! 3 out!
I like Morton's pace.. he's getting the ball and throwing it. and throwing it well.

What was strike two to Gardner? What pitch?
-
I think you may be thinking of King Felix, but we can roll with it. Maybe?
Somebody's profiling here.
And t was Rick Rheuschel.
-
Offspeed says Nate, thanks.
-
What was strike two to Gardner? What pitch?
80 mph breaker scraped the outside; his face got uglier than usual.
-
Pretty sure I just saw HH as they went to commercial after the top of the 1st.
-
What was strike two to Gardner? What pitch?
Hanging curveball
-
Come on Astros, lets hit 'em hard early.
-
Hey mate, we may have had this discussion before... are you at the game?
Yah. It's loud.
-
That is fucking good to see, Springer!
-
De facto bunt.
-
Yah. It's loud.
You lucky dog, drink a big-ass beer for me!
-
What was strike two to Gardner? What pitch?
80.3 mph curveball according to gameday.
-
A couple of first pitch outs.
If those were the pitches they were looking for, fine.
-
Bottom 2
Springer, called strike 3 inches of the outside edge, ball, ball inside, single to center! WAY TO GO GEORGE!
Bregman, first pitch swinging gets CC off the mound to throw him out.. 1 out, Springer to 2nd
Altuve, first pitch grounded to third, Springer holds, 2 out.
Correa, First pitch grounded to Castro.. 3 outs.
0 -0 after 1
-
Let's do this.
-
I want to complain about Altuve not taking a pitch but I can't.
-
A couple of first pitch outs.
If those were the pitches they were looking for, fine.
Correction: 3 first pitch outs.
-
I think I need to start drinking.
-
Shift giveth . . .
Deal with it, Charlie.
-
Great play by Bregman. So smooth.
-
At the Rockets game they are inerviewing a NFL guy who is wearing an Astros throwback jersey, I wonder wft they are talking about?
-
Bregman is good. My favorite Astros 3B since Caminiti.
-
nice play, Bregman.
Very nice snag.
-
Great play by Bregman. So smooth.
He's good.
-
Morton Express.
-
Say hello to my uncle Charlie, then have some cheese!!!
-
Morton had a long chat with JV.
-
Who's the home ump? The Blue Plate Special, so to speak?
-
Great start for Morton. That was a fuckin' hammer he dropped on strike 2.
-
Bregman is good. My favorite Astros 3B since Caminiti.
He's a stud.
-
Top of the 2nd,
Sanchez, first pitch through the wide open hole of the shift, single,
Bird, first pitch fly to center. 1 out

-
Game seven, where every pitch is gut-wrenching. Love it.
-
At the Rockets game they are inerviewing a NFL guy who is wearing an Astros throwback jersey, I wonder wft they are talking about?
Surely it's Deshaun Watson.
-
Game seven, where every pitch is gut-wrenching. Love it.
Just finished take-out fajitas. I think I may regret it.
-
Mark Carlson
Thankya.
-
He's a stud.
Yuli, Altuve, Bregman, and Correa are the Infield of Doom.
-
Damn.
-
I'm callin' the laws!!
-
Hate that guy, but that was a good catch.
-
Shitfuck. What a catch. Goddamit.
-
Fuck!
-
Hate that guy, but that was a good catch.
Great play.
-
Good catch. Fucker.
-
Getting good swings though. That is promising. Keep hitting it hard, good things are gonna happen.
And why wasn't there a kid reaching over to grab that one?!
-
McCann tried to catch that with his shoulder blade.
-
Wow. I just realized that one of my offspring is nearly as large a human as Sabathia.
McCann takin' a stroll.
-
Let's go get Sabathia.
-
Find your pitch, Marwin.
-
nice changeup, jerk.
-
Come on, y'all. Shake him up early.
-
This is going to be Reddick's game. I can feel it.
-
Good AB by Marwin.
-
when the CC Sabathia biopic is made, Forest Whitaker will play the lead.
-
Yeah boy. Marwin sets the table for Reddick.
-
Damn.
Keep doing your thing, Charlie.
-
This is going to be Reddick's game. I can feel it.
(Still feeling it. Wish it would've started there.)
-
Bottom 2
Gurriel, ball outside, ball down, Fly to deep right.. Judge gets it.. great catch... 1 out I think his height got that for him.
Gattis, foul, swinging strike up, ball up, ball down, grounds sharply to third, Gardner drops it but throws him out 2 outs
McCann, ball in, ball down, ball in (was a strike), ball four. Walk
Gonzalez hitting right, ball down, foul back, ball up and in.. strike swinging on the changeup, foul, base knock over Castro for a single.. McCann to second
Reddick, curve ball in there for strike 1, popped it up to Judge in right. 3 outs..

when the CC Sabathia biopic is made, Forest Whitaker will play the lead.
I wish the Forest Whitaker eye were a factor in this game.
-
when the CC Sabathia biopic is made, Forest Whitaker will play the lead.
No shit, right. Or at least Forest Whitaker's head and John Goodman's body.
-
Yes, Joe, let's talk again about how spectacular that Judge catch was, by all means.
-
Charlie mixing up selection on first pitch nicely after they tried to sit on the FB.
-
Large strike zone so far.
-
OUT.
-
Nifty by Altuve.
Nice pick by Yuli.
-
Morton getting some calls.
-
Gamesmanship bt Girardi on the gum thing.
Keep doin what you're doin, Charlie.
-
Suck it yanks.
-
Gamesmanship bt Girardi on the gum thing.
4 out of 5 dentists prefer the Astros.
-
Girardi whining about Morton's gum.
-
Great job Charlie and the D.
-
Better throw by Altuve there.
-
Good job out there Charlie

Top 3,
Frazier, curve for a strike on the outside edge, fast ball called a strike but looked down, popped up uncle charlie to Reddick in right 1 out.
Headley, ball, curve for a strike, grounder to the right side, Altuve snags it and throws it in the dirt but Yuli picks it. 2 out. Under review upheld.
Gardner, curve outside, curve in there for a strike, fastball up for a ball, curve outside, foul, grounder up the middle which Altuve snags and throws him out 4-3~ 3 outs

-
Time to knock CC around.
-
CC is there for the beating..
-
good swing/contact.
Good sign.
-
Even when he's cruising, Sabathia looks like he's laboring.
-
Oh, and cocklick.
-
I don't want good contact, I want some hits.
-
CC really looks like he's laboring. Hit your pitch fellas
-
Hit it hard, good things may happen!
-
I don't want good contact, I want some hits.

-
Even when he's cruising, Sabathia looks like he's laboring.
that’s because he’s 500 lbs.
-
How about both?
Both is good.
-
Rockhand.
-
He's not close. Girardi better get someone up.
-
He wasn't going to give Altuve anything. He'll pitch to Correa.
-
Nah. Ride him all 9.
-
Or not. Leave him in as long as you want.
-
If the Astros don't win, you can't blame Sanchez and Castro.
-
Altuve with good plate discipline
-
that’s because he’s 500 lbs.
That's a large human.
-
Remember those days when the Astros would swing at anything?
-
bad time to start sucking, blue.

Apparently he never won a playoff series with them (or anybody until this year).
Maybe that masked him less of one.
Plus he hates Carlos Gomez.

Me too. He's focused. Expecting him to connect.
With Springer I'm just hoping he connects. He'll snap out of it, but times a wastin'.

No, Jim. I was one that was right there with you. I am here to say I am happy to have been dead wrong about what level of compete McCullers had in the tank, mentally and physically. Both he and Morton pitched their guts out and are deserving of their roles in this rotation going forward in this postseason and beyond. #earned

This may cost me a lot of money but I will see a game in person.
Who knows when it will happen again? I sucked it up and bought a single for Game 2 in LA with JV on the bump.
p.s. My wife is awesome.
-
The wife has given me permission to attend game one or two...think I'll go with Verlander. Am hoping for prices to drop after first pitch, though, $1K is a bit pricey.
-
I will now be in Tampa for games 3,4 & 5.

I could not report in either. The atmosphere was too exciting and intense to pay attention to reading and to typing. The crowd was terrific, and we stood much of the time and on all of the Astros’ pitchers’ two strike pitches. HH and I agreed the Yankees’ ABs were much more nerve-wracking than ours, and we would sit in between the half innings to gather our strength for the next one. The people all around us began counting down the outs at 9, and there were high fives to and from the guys in front of us with each out. History was made: no idiot tried to start the wave in either game.
The GZ was great! I read it cover to cover as soon as I got back to my room. There could not possibly be a better season for me, and I could be prouder of the team, especially Morton and McCullers. I really hope Morton discovered who he is as a pitcher last night and hope McCullers discovered there is no I in Team. Both were heroic.
I wish all of you could have been there. I am lucky I was.
PS my name is Jim (Jimmy to some) or Coach or, if you want to be impersonal, Raup. My name is not Raupweiler. A Rottweiler is a dog, and I am not a dog. Please stop.
World Series!!!!

Anyone have a line on tix for games 3 or 4? I'm going and would prefer not to be completely alone.

I wasn't at the game but it's funny that you mention standing for the Yankees AB and being more relaxed for the Astros. From about the 6th inning I was standing in my living room, kind of bouncing on the balls of my feet while lance was on the mound. When the Astros batted I was sitting on the edge of the couch.
I love this team more than I can say and I'm so proud of them.

Each Judge AB was excruciating tension for me. I know it is in vogue here to downplay his talent, but my scout friend said he is one of the best four or five young players he has ever seen. That evaluation encompasses almost 50 years.

Bregman on the play at the plate
"We had a play earlier in the year, about 10 games before the end of the regular season, and I tried to turn the double play and the run scored. So, before the pitch I was already ready where if it was softly hit I was going to throw the guy out at the plate and if it was hard hit I would turn the double play"
" as soon as it was hit I thought 'hey, you better put this one on the cash' and I pulled out the inner Payton manning and threw a dime."

In a moment of extreme exaltation in the immediate aftermath for some reason I attempted to do a break dance maneuver I hadn't preformed in 35 years and fucked up my left shoulder. I was so excited I didn't care but this morning it is so sore and I can't lift my arm without a bit of pain. Yehaw!!!!!
So happy for those that got to see the game in person. What a thrill that must have been. It was quite thrilling in my living room too. What fantastic pitching last night. And of course, Jose Altuve. Got to try to make it to a WS game.

I love Bregman. What a confident guy he is for someone so young.

Way way WAY more excruciating for me watching the Astros on defense.
As the runs score and a lead develops, easier but not easy. There are 27 outs to and no time limit; we've all seen crazy stuff happen.
But when the batter hits a breaking ball high into shallow center and the pitcher celebrates without even turning to watch its flight, and the CF sticks both arms up in victory until the ball plops into his glove, well that's when it gets freaking awesome.
I didn't cry, Bud Girl, but it probably would not have taken much.

We were in 118, so same place as last time. I'd have come said hello had I known.
Wasn't that a great crowd?

Just watched a super-cut of McCullers' breaking balls to finish out the game. Holy shit, that was impressive.
I'm still numb. The last week has been such a rollercoaster of emotions. I'm still not sure how to feel but I'm loving it!!

Last night was something else. I was a nervous wreck before the game and for seven innings. Coach had to smack some sense into me a couple of times. Oddly, I was fairly calm starting in the 8th. What a game. What a series. I think I surprised Coach with a big hug after it was all over.

Taking my cue from you and Jim, I wore the same clothes I'd worn the night before. Seventh inning Kris wonders off and shows up with a gift Astros post-season cap. I started to put it on but the guy behind me and the guy beside me asked which cap I'd worn the night before, and told me I couldn't change caps.
On the way back to the car I had both caps on. Walking back to the car I knocked off the lucky cap, got half a block and across an intersection and turned around to see somebody pick it up. I ran them down and they happily gave me back my cap.
Do I get to wash my clothes now, at least to start the WS?

Good question. I, too, wore the same clothes from game 6, and would like to wash them before the World Series if possible.

You can wash in between series. The BBGs aren't cretins.

I was wearing an old shirt from 2004, it barely fits me now. I'm not sure if I should wash it either but it's the shirt I'll be wearing for the world series.
The Astros are in the world series!!!! Can't stop saying that

I don't get to nearly as many games as I would like and this month of the playoffs is particularly . . . inconvenient. When tickets went on sale, it wasn't clear that Houston would have home field advantage, but I definitely wasn't going to be able to go to Houston until this weekend. I got a seat in a very funky part of the bullpen boxes, on the foul side of the right field foul pole.
I've been to a few big games in my life, but not many (Philly/Braves at the Vet in the early 90s, the Spurs Memorial Day Miracle, A win in game 2 or 3 in the 2005 NLCS). Still, NOTHING comes CLOSE to that ballgame last night. We were standing for every inning, sitting only between innings to catch a breath and respond to text messages. The crowd was amazing, the sound was amazing. The World Series is too rich for my blood this year, so I'm so, so glad this went down and I was there. I don't know what they have in store for them in the WS, but I'm really pleased with the way the team has responded to their Bronx Slump, and I'm particularly excited that Morton and McCullers have had such good outings.
I was 12 in '86, so I have a special feeling for that team. But in every other respect, this is my favorite Astro Team by some distance. Long may they run.

I've also had a problem with all my old gear shrinking in the closet.
BTW, seeing Bregman get interviewed on the FS1 postgame show was hilarious. He was drenched in champagne and wearing huge black goggles, answering questions like A-Rod asking him how he felt moving from short to third. Each of the retired players on the panel asked him something, while teammates were mugging in the background and pouring more champagne on him.

Another bonus of going and being stuck in traffic on I-10 was that I got to hear almost all of Steve Sparks in the clubhouse. Unbelievable. That guy's a fucking animal!

Speaking of "spots", on Friday, I was going to park at my office and walk to MMPUS, like I did for the ALDS. But after I had parked in the garage, I remembered that while I had my garage gate card with me, I'd forgotten to bring my building badge. After hours, the garage locks and you can only enter it from the building, which means I wouldn't have been able to get back into the garage after the game. So I bit the bullet and parked in my usual spot near the park, only this time it was $60. I went to 1820, had a Love Street then a Macallan 12 to calm my nerves. Last night, there was no fucking way I was not going to park in that EXACT same spot, I didn't care how much it cost. Had my Love Street and Macallan, met Budgirl there, and we walked over to meet Jim for our pre-game taco and beer.

Sparks was cracking me up. He asked Gattis if he could drink the champagne from his beard and Marwin if he cried when they lost 100 games. I think both of them wanted to get away from him as soon as possible.
-
I feel the same way about the tension of watching us pitch, and I think it comes down to one simple thing:
We trusted this offense to come through.

Did you hear him ask Gregerson about the foursome? The tattoo he was asking about was his mom, grandma, and Aunt. Hilarious!
The Astros have to win it all just for more Sparky in the clubhouse.

I woke up this morning and my first thought was THAT REALLY HAPPENED.

I heard that too. He then felt up Keuchel's beard, describing it as "going down lower".
And I also heard Keuchel say that if they win the World Series, the first thing he's doing is shaving that beard.

I just kept waiting for the bats to start talking. I didn't see how the Yankees' highly praised relievers could silence them for the whole series.

The foursome talk was very strange. He must've been drunker than Harry Caray.
Or just nuts.

No, man, I was just reminding you of things you already know. The hug did not surprise me and was much appreciated. Those were some great times.

Epic night.

A number of things have transpired to prevent me from attending in person this year (unless something truly miraculous happens). Yes, I'm heartbroken but what can you do. Amazing what the light of day does to dreams of the night, Hanging out here with all of you Astro freaks is great compensation.

Row 36. Read Bregman’s Interview. He decided late in the regular season after a failed DP and talking to Cora if the situation occurred again he was going home. He was prepared.

Anybody else reminded of MoBerg's throw home to nail Pujols against the Jakes in game 4? Bigger situation in '05, but both are now sweet memories.

Nice. Really appreciated the section chants immediately drowning out any Yankee fan chants.
Bregman didn't hesitate and put it on the money. Truly perfection.

I've never been to WA so I have no idea what beers are prevalent out there. What's common?
I wondered if I missed much, the GZ was pretty hectic the last couple of nights, so…
These days I think most people here drink imported beers, no end of choices. European beers mainly I guess, US beers not so much, and of course there is Kilkenny. Micro-breweries are all over the place and they are pretty popular too.
Both of the iconic local breweries are closed now and the ‘local’ beers are brewed in South Australia. We used to have Swan and Emu breweries that made a range of pretty good beers and created the WA tradition of ‘having a poultry lunch’ but probably not many people would realise that now I guess? It is a bit sad to me the way the breweries went but that’s life I guess. I personally blame the America’s Cup but that is another matter altogether.
Now, if you ever meet someone from WA and they say they feel like a poultry lunch, don’t take them to KFC, that is not what they want.

Bregman reminds me of a baseball version of a gym rat.
