Title: Izzy out, Springer (and Franklin) in
Post by: OregonStrosFan on May 10, 2008, 02:46:59 pm
Cards have yanked Isringhausen from the closers role and will split closing duties between Russ Springer and Ryan Franklin.  SI Link (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/baseball/mlb/05/10/isringhausen.cards.ap/index.html)  Hope its Franklin personally... watching Izzy implode is a favorite past time of sorts, and I'm sure I could embrace watching Franklin take over the role of 'imploder' (can't really root for Springer to implode though, Card or not).

Quote
"It needed to be done," [Isringhausen] said. "It's a mental break more than anything."

Isringhausen, who leads the NL with 11 saves and is eight saves shy of 300 for his career, was clearly upset after Friday's game, putting all the blame on himself.

"I'm just getting sick of embarrassing myself and letting my team down," he said Friday night. "We should be five more wins in the win column in my mind, so we should be ahead in first place even more. But they can't keep sending me out there when I'm pitching the way I'm pitching.

Second edit per 'slapdown' from Noe.

Thanks for the correction.  Brain must have been stuck on whether or not Selena was overrated...

I agree, same goes for Cubs/Yankees/Red Sex but if I stayed true to that there wouldn't be any fantasy teams

I have a Duncan/Ludwick platoon in a league that is working out quite well. You wouldn't have Pooholes on your team? That's just insane, you have to ignore who they play for to be successful in fantasy ball.

I also have Schumaker starting instead of Pence at CF in the SnS league. Blasphemy!

Pujols is a keeper on my team.  Agree, gotta stay blind to those sorts of things to play fantasy ball.  Also have Berkman and Oswalt to keep a balance of the light and dark sides.

Had Izzy on a team a couple of years back and it drove me nuts needing the saves but hoping he'd implode every time he pitched.  Since then, hasn't been an issue as I've only had 1 pick better than #10 (hence Pooholes was already gone) and took ARod with it.  But to answer your question, nope, wouldn't take him.  Am perfectly happy taking the best player available not named Pooholes and then drafting Berkman in the 2nd or 3rd rounds.

The Dugout weighs in. (http://sports.aol.com/fanhouse/2008/05/12/the-dugout-eric-gagne-with-a-spoon/)

For some reason, "it made my groceries more expensive" is the funniest thing I've heard this week.
